So, I have sinned. I loned my dopey friend my CKRT M16 knife on a camping trip, and it didn't make it home. It was about 5 years old and probably due for a replacement anyway, I suppose.

I'm leaning towards replacing it with one of the same, but figured I'd ask around first.

I'd like to stick to roughly the same size and shape.

Anyone have any other options? I looked at some Cold Steel knives so far but thats it.

Personally my favorite so far is the K.I.S.S. (http://www.crkt.com/kiss.html) from CRKT.

It's sturdy, and slim so it fits in pockets easily without getting in the way. I'm on my 2nd or 3rd now.

I don't know where/how I manage to loose mine, but it seems to happen every few years or so.

I'm fairly sure mine ended up in a river.

Frankly, because I lose them all the time, I buy reasonably economical gerbers. Fairly good knife considering they are under $40

I am partial to Benchmade Knives... I have used everything from CRKT to Buck to Gerber to Spyderco to Cold Steel and always end back up carrying a Benchmade...

Benchmade makes a folder for H&K and is a pretty good deal... Here's the link : H&K Benchmade Ascender Manual Knife (http://www.bladehq.com/item--HK-Benchmade-Ascender--3940) ...

Hope this Helps

I am partial to the SOG myself. Am not familiar enough with the other blade to make any comparison.

I keeped a SOG in my flight vest when I was in the military. The one they issue you was really bad and always carried a mid size Spyderco around in my pocket. Both are very well made and the SOG was nicely balanced.

Also had a huge machete in the back of my aircraft. Never knew when we were going to get shot down or PL somewhere in the middle of no where.

Apparently I can't check any link relating to knives at work.

I'm not a fan of Spyderco. I know they are pretty popular but I can't get past that big round loop on the back of most of their knives. I just find them ugly.

I can't go to that exact link for the Benchmade but just using GIS, I like the look of some of them. Definitely worth checking out. I always associated Benchmade with "out of my price range" but it looks like you can possibly get some good deals on them.

I carry microtech, but they're probably a bit pricey for what you are looking for.

I use the CRKT M16-10KZ, and I love it. Stays very sharp, came sharp as a razor, and the blade locks stiff as hell when open, so no wiggling when you're doing tough cuts with it. Plus, it's inexpensive, especially if you really hunt for a good deal, such as on eBay or other online sources.

Wow, that M-16Z looks almost exactly like my gerber.

Ive found Gerbers to be a great deal for their price, solid, strong, and u won't hurt as much if it gets lost.

I also love Kershaw tho, the chive being my favorite.

Ive used the crkt k.i.s.s, but the blade became dull too quickly for me, and the blade cut the back of my hand while it was folded a few times (knife was in my pocket when i pulld my hand out)

SOG makes some increible knives tho, and if you don't care about price, i'd say thats the way to go. Well, their fixed blade knives are incredible, havent owned any of their folders.

Yeah I've been using a CKRT M16 for the past 5 years and its absolutely a great knife for the price.

Just checking out other options first.

i was recently given a Kershaw assisted opening knife. I am really impressed with it you might consider looking into one.

The knives that I actually use (not collectors or for show) are either CKRT or Kershaw (I think I spelled that right). Both hold an edge pretty well, and seem to be built for someone who actually uses it for working (not someone who uses it to open their potato chip bag, carries a knife to look cool)

I dont know models on either, but I am sure I paid less than 40 for any of them. (IIRC they range about 30ish)

I've owned 3 pricey knives, i've lost and been pissed about losing 3 pricey knives.

Now i say with knives under 40 dollars.

My current carry is a CRKT M-16 (go figure, right?)

I'm also in love with my SOG knives, Kershaw knives, and This boker i found:

http://newgraham.com/store/product/4535/Trance-Folder-Drop-Point-BOK595/

all ~30 dollars. ~40 for some of the assiested opening SOG's and Kershaws.

The Boker was STUPID SHARP, and didnt show any signs of getting dull after cutting a buncha dumb stuff i shouldn't of cut with a knife...

However, i sold it to a friend, and little did that friend know, having a knife-clip exposed out of your pocket in Manhattan is a misdemeanor 1, an excuse to get cuffed, patted, and a knife taken from you....

I get so sick and tired of this kind of garbage. There is no reason nor is there any excuse for this.

Anyone know if crkt n gerber have any connection to each other?

here's the knife i've been using, a gerber evo jr

http://media.rei.com/media/544334.jpg

Same design as the m16 with some small differences. The Evo is larger than the m16, while the Evo JR is a bit smaller.

The junior seems to goin for 10-20

+1 for KISS. I kept loosing good knifes and didn't want anything too bulky. I paid less then 10$ for two kiss over 4 years ago thinking they would be getting replaced regularly....murphys law states that you only loose expensive knifes so I have both KISS in my drawer still.... The blade holds up fine, the tip seems to go dull for whatever reason? And it's not a very stable design...ie grabbing the knife like a typical knife and a little pressure in the wrong direction and the lock opens and the blade comes back. Great knife for having a knife on you, poor knife for daily use.

I'm goign to jump to conclusions and think that Gerber ripped it off.

Could be me, tho.

I have been carrying a Paladin tools knife for a couple of years now and they seem to do pretty good. The only thing I really don't like about them is the clip tends to break a little to easy. The blade itself is made by SOG, and holds an edge pretty descent . I am partial to them though mainly because I do a lot of low voltage wiring and they are handy for that since the do the job of 3 different tools. If you don't do any wiring they might not be that attractive to you, but I find the wire strippers on them to be the cats meow. Here's a link to check em out.

I think if i did that much wiring, i'd have wire strippers/cutters/crimpers around...

But, that is kinda neat...

Hrm. I've never had my KISS knives slip the lock. Maybe I just use / hold mine differently than you do.

Edit: which blade style do you have? I've always used the Tano edge, but I think there's a drop point one out there too. Currently using a 1/2 serrated KISS in the Dark.

I bought a very nice benchmade years ago, I loved that knife, but I about cried when I lost it last year :p

The axis lock system is sweet though. I like it way better than any other i've used.

same, tano 1/2 serated in silver. Anyone own a surefire knife? I mean you could own a firearm for that price buy maybe people want a breadslicer that costs 300$?
