Shooters and Shotgunners... Storage advice needed.

I'm a shooter and collector of firearms, but I never bring everything out at the same time so to me storage is a holster, a large safe, or a sling on my back. If I know I'll be visiting a store, I'll use a floppy $5 rifle case to conceal whatever it is from view (people like to see gun cases, they don't like to see Browning BARs, regardless of constitutional rights).

Anyway, I'm sure there are a few other shooters and hunters on the site, so I'm asking for some advice.

I'm looking for a large hardshell gun case with a foam interior, but I'm not planning to use it to store a firearm. It's gotta be at least 16" tall and 5" deep. Preferably long enough to comfortably fit 5 automags (atop one another, facing the same direction) with a few inches of space between them.

Any advice or tips? I'd want to cut foam to fit each specific marker, but I need a jumping off point.

Any help is much appreciated, especially if it comes with links.

Cheapest way would be a military ammo can like a .50cal or larger, you can also do a search for a pelican case. They're very nice but also has a very nice price tag.

A .50 cal ammo can might work.. but is a little small yet at 12" x 6" x 7"

A 20mm can (if you could find one) is great, but BIG. Pelican cases or knock offs might work well for you.

Haha, not from WWII.. Though I've been trying to find a semi reproduction of the military model that costs under $2000 for quite some time, just for giggles. My Belgium Browning BAR is a semiauto .308 hunting rifle from the early 1970s. Really a fun toy. Almost exactly the same model as this: http://homepage.mac.com/jayc67/safari.jpg (I don't put pictures of my firearms online, so this is what I could find as an example).

I've got more hunting rifles and lever guns than anything; the closest things I have to "scary awesome military stuff" are my folding stock Mini14 and a few pistols.

I've got a Kimber Custom TLE II 1911 (LAPD SWAT model) that I carry on occasion, but it's a bit more modern than what you're shooting I'd guess. I'm currently running a 9mm conversion kit, so it's really not your daddys 1911.

The only thing I have from WWII is a Colt 1903.

I admit, I never liked .45s until I tried that Kimber. I'm a .357 fanatic, a wheelgun man through and through, though I like small-caliber semi automatics. For a while I shot an S&W 945 for my fullsize semi, just because I wanted some kind of .45 and found it more comfortable than 1911 models... Sold it a few days after seeing and firing the Custom II.

Sounds like your WWII collection is solid; there's not much more that can be legally owned from that era, outside of a few Russian models. At least as far as military issue goes.

For my marker storage I found a Ryobi Multitool case (the one that hold a drill, saw, flashlight, yada..)

Cut out the vacuum formed tool holders and filled it with hard foam cut out for each marker.
Holds about 6 Mags. Works like a champ

I like the case, but I'm looking for something long and thin... I want to be able to swing it open and display 6 markers (with barrels removed and stored next to them) but also be rugged and durable. I'm thinking I want a case that'll double as a replacement for my pegboard wall.

$200 after selling the 3 gearbags and 2 wall-mount gun racks I currently use. If it's $210, it's only costing me $30 out of pocket. That said, depending on the inner dimensions of that Walmart case, I could potentially make money on the deal :cool:

I've never actually been through Jackman, but plenty of my coworkers and customers go up there. I've been invited but it usually interferes with my schedule.
