Dennis tippmann shows off the new x7 phenom(sounds like a processor doesnt it)

the new tippmann x7 base gun has some nice features like a spool valve with a spring return blow forward bolt, a regulator adjuster in the back

mechanical, and semi mode of operation

what does everyone think.

hmm, their newest and most advanced aye? the valve/bolt/reg combo reminds of something, I just can't put my finger on it...

its pretty much an emag!!!

hmm, so if the batteries die, can it run in mech mode as an e-mag does? or does that selector switch require batteries to function?

wonder how air enters the valve tho

NOOOOOO the video is gone!

Anyone care to summarize what was on it? This definitely piqued my interest...

It has indeed disapeared... Possibly an issue with the H&K style fire selector?

Either way from what I can see from the first frame of the video it's a cool automa... Tippman

Humm I wonder how that thing went on internet. I would have liked to see the video.

I think it was deleted cause it shoud not have been on the net.

I meant whether or not the selector switch will allow you to shoot even without any batteries at all, from the looks of it the switch might be battery dependant, which could mean you won't be able to switch to mech mode, I can't tell from the vid and didnt notice any mention of it really other than there is a mech mode.

As for what was on the vid: imagine a tippmann X7 or something, with an automag valve inside, and an e-mag frame:)
and he's just showing the features of the gun through a 3d program

basically the video shows tippmanns new gun which is coming out. it only shows it in 3D renderings though. think of the TPX Pistol how the design is almost identical to the Automag valve. now take the TPX and make a full on version of it, and you have Tippmanns new marker. which is essentially identical to a Automag valve

There was a team at the SPPL Finals a few weeks ago that Tippmann gave them a few of the proto's to use and test. They seemed pretty cool from what we saw and used of them. Easy velocity adjustments with any moderate sized allen key, fire mode selector switch is like the X7 but it has 3 positions...the first is a mechanical safety, the middle mode is semi only and that is a mechanical semi, and the third position is an electric mode that is set on the board but has the option of being full auto or semi or bust or ramp and so on. The gun is shorter than the A5 and X7 and seems to be a bit lighter too. Still has the cyclone feed and the valve and bolt system come out the back once you remove the pins and grip frame like the others. It does have a air through grip frame system too.

The base of this design was not developed in-house by Tippmann...and it does draw directly from the Mag family tree. (even before Tippmann got it)

Why is Tippmann making a gun like this, and not AGD anymore?

Tippman as part of KEE (IIRC) has better lawyers than SP. Since SP can't threaten them into submission, and has absolutely no desire to see precident set against them, they leave them alone.

I'm interested in this to play with - anyone else?

Tippman as part of KEE (IIRC)

Tippmann is not part of KEE. BT is though.

I thought Tippman was bought out some time ago and BT was the offshoot not affiliated with :) But, I've been wrong in memory before too so not too surprising.

i would assume so. you can see the cyclone house in the diagram, and that system doesn't need eyes.

Correct.

BT was "Ben Tippmann" playing around with the valve design in different bodies... Now it's "Battle Tested", I'm sure due to some sort of issue with the name "Tippmann" though it might have been changed to avoid an issue rather than the result of one.

*edit:
I think KEE has the rights to BT... Or at least they're BTs distributer.

Riddler236

I honestly haven't been keeping up on industry moves as much as I should have, so I can't say when BT may have been acquired by KEE, but with Simon designing BT markers on Invert Mini platforms, I'd have to say they're definitely owned by KEE today.

BT is a part of KEE. Tippmann (Sports) is not.

Which is weird, IMO, since KEE has exclusize distribution for BT, and is also the main Tiberius Distributer, but has nothing to do with Tippmann. It seems like KEE distributes everything that's made in the Tippmann "industrial complex" down in Fort Wayne except Tippmann markers themselves... Hell, even back when Action Markers was around I believe NPS was their distributer (for those who don't know, NPS + PMI = KEE and it happened about two years back).

*P.S. I'm a moron for not saying it more clearly, AM was located in Fort Wayne in the same place.

Would be neat, but I doubt it. Especially considering that Tippmann Sports isn't Tippmann-owned anymore, anyways. What was it, a big pharmaceutical company that bought them? I forget.

Taking that year or two away from the sport has addled the old memory banks.

I was under the impression that Dennis Tippmann was still involved, just not the majority shareholded.

haha i guess that diddnt come out right. i was saying hi to enos, i used to talk to him on irc and dont see him around much.

I diddnt get any info from him, the youtube video was under one of the tippmann guys channels, it wasnt under the offical one, but it wasnt exactly hidden either..lol

once you put something up online its fair game and you cant be under the assumption no one will ever see it.

i also hear rumors of tippmann perhaps adopting .43 caliber...but at this point thats just a rumor. i believe they have said they are not doing anything .50 at this time

Mmm tinker porn. Thanks Tippmann for including a nice cutaway for us machinist geeks to stare at.

Actually it looks more like an Invert type of operation, balanced spool valve/blow forward. Its pretty much the same system as the TPX uses from what I can tell spraining my eyes at that image, just a rearrangement of the parts.

Actually the only similarities the Phenom valve system has with a Auto-Mag is that the FlexValve is also blow forward - spring return system with a regulator mounted at the rear of the valve.

I’ll try to explain the differences.

In a Mag the bolt is under constant pressure & held back by a sear. When trigger is pulled the on/off pin gets pushed up which cuts the supply air off from the regulator & the sear is dropped letting the bolt fly forward under pressure releasing the contents of the valve chamber pushing the ball out the barrel. The main spring returns the bolt re-engaging the sear, and the valve recharges when the trigger is released.

In the FlexValve, when the trigger is pulled the firing pin is moved up by the trigger, dumping a very small amount of air from behind the internal spool, (which has equal pressure on both sides) it then shifts back to dump the contents of the valve chamber into the powertube which pushes the bolt forward & fires the ball out the barrel. The main spring returns the bolt & the valve recharges when the trigger is released.

This makes the FlexValve very efficient & consistent since the same amount of air is fired every time. Plus there’s no powertube spacer/spring or o-rings to fuss with.

I hope this makes sense.

I'd still like to see what he has to say in regards to this "innovation"... Should we expect that soon?

P.S.

MagsRgreat, what about the similarities to the Emag operating system? I'm thinking about the mechanicals, hall effect sensor, etc. Also, seeing as 1987/1988 (the date can be argued) makes the Panther (early Automag) the first blowforward and Tom Kaye the inventor of the blowforward marker, I'd say that's fairly significant...

Do you in any way work for Tippmann Pneumatics or an affiliated company?

I'm not sure if the Emag has a different firing sequence from the STD Mag. AGD did have those features & was the first to do so. Nobody will deny that. I due know that the Tippmann version of those features are far less complex than AGD's.

No I don't work for Tippmann, whish I did though.

I agree... I wasn't saying that Tippmann owed Tom anything (other than thanks for help with their early semis) just looking at other mechanical markers like the Badger (1989) and blowforward electros like the mini (2006) and this seems to be a lot closer.

I need to dissassemble one and play with the fire selector ASAP. :D

I actually wondered that because he's a good technical writer and seemed to have good deal of knowledge of the product. Couple that with being a 2 post member, both in this thread, and I had to wonder. I actually wanted to ask a few questions about the fire selector, too, but I have a feeling I'll have to go to Tippmann directly for details.

P.S. Ever since that Luxxe girl who turned out to be a copyrighted photo from elsewhere and a male SP worker, it doesn't hurt to ask...

Thanks for the props! I did own a paintball for many years. I did sell Tippmanns, Mags & Cockers. I got out in 03 just before spoolies took off big. I still play often & had access to a Phenom last weekend. It was very cool to shoot & take apart. I understand how the selector switch & the H.E. trigger works to.

All I can say is that this is an outstanding marker and a great addition to the Tippmann line-up of markers...

I'm so glad that we can finally talk about this new marker ,,, the silence has been killing me... Yes there are members of the Hellions that own both E-Mags (Tac One set-up),,, Mags and AKA Vikings as well for comparison...
