some of us can afford them like for example my scenario:

I'm 19 pay for everything, have a loan on a 20k car, go to college, I also however get money by doing the 2 job thing... i am a manager at a mcdonalds and will be a manager at a target.

I appreciate my stuff so much more knowing i pay for it all and work hard for what i have

Right now, I am a bagger/cart-getter at my local grocery store Hy-Vee. I work 5 hours a day(since I am under 16 for the time being) and make around $100 every 2 weeks. Right now I'm in the process of saving for a new Matrix and nitro tank($900) or an E-Mag and 88/3k nitro tank(used for $850).

It pays well for my age, $5.50 a hour is alot better than $0.00/hour sitting at home.

im 14 and with my 2 jobs i get $140 a week. i mow my neighbors lawn for 40 bucks a week and get paid 100 for working for my dads lawn care and landscaping buissness. $140 a week isnt bad at all. this summer i plan to get some more lawns to mow.

I can afford them because

I am just about 19, I work at walmart when I am at home, I have bought everything I have like Law. I work like a beast during the summers so that I can pay for paint, and not have to work during school.

you also have to control all your expenses, and just stop spending money on useless stuff, by doing that I have made
almost have enough money for angel now, only three months of saving

p.s. fun fact: walmart is the greatest slacker job around:D

I recently got a "job" at my school.

My "Job" is sitting around and helping the brain-dead people who don't know how to save Word Documents to a disk. Technically, I'm called a "lab monitor" but, really I just sit around.

It's great since I get $8.50 an hour for it :D :D

I'm an electrical engineer for an automotive OEM. Since I got done with school I'm able to buy the gear I've always dreamed of.

When I was in highschool I had hopes of buying a Splatmaster or a Rapide (but was never able to) back then I was airbrushing T-shirts, out of my basement, for $15 a pop and repairing movie projectors at school.

I do the 2 job thing. UPS in the morning and an electricians helper in the afternoon. I put in like 60-70hrs a week. Best thing is I have weekends off:D Can spend all my money on my toys. paintball, truck, quad, snowboard, hockey. Plus I have a small loan for my truck but the left over will help pay for upgrades on everything.

my dad is in the bakery/restraunt/store supplying industry and carries basically everything that has to do with food its just a small business with only 4 trucks running wich 3 are 10 wheelers.
Every summer break i work my *** off from 7a.m.-12p.m. and then from 12p.m.-3p.m. i just sweep or clean walls( and 200,000 lbs of flour doesnt help any)
well the good thing about it is i get paid 400$ every 2 weeks but half of that has to go toward car and college(a long way off yet)so i still get a good amount for pball.

i can afford my e-mag/cocker because i'm 15 (so ALL of my income is disposable) and have a 20hour/week part time job at a local skating rink that i've been holding 6+ months...after my e-mag the only money i'm going to spend from my account will be for tourneys, i'm going to start saving up.

wow, my account is still active!, been a while. anyway im 33 married house 2kids so on. im a foreman for a tree company, have a CDL, all types of spray licenses and im their mechanic at night for time and a half. all winter i climb or run an arealift, all summer i do IPM on manicured estates. i make 22.75 +50cents per hour for my chainsaws(2). i put in between 55-60 hours a week(do the math) i can afford any gun i want. so what do i use? a bone stock minimag with a rev and a 3000# 110ci nitroduck. why? cuz it is made so well it will last me forever and it does all i need to keep me competitive. i also have a certificate in computer programming and am working on a computer science degree. from time to time i make some extra scratch as a musician.

Signpainter- Not a huge amount of money but the car and house still get paid for. I also have a chunk of money invested and get a big healthy dividend check occasionally. The wife, who's an art teacher, does'nt care that I use some of our cash to buy a part every now and then and a case of paint around 2 times a month. She gets her hair done so it all evens out.;)

I ran away to Colorado for 10 years and snowboard raced(Telluride/Vail) up to Pro level (LaCroix & Oxygen sponsorships). I payed for it as a CAD Consultant (Civil Eng/Arch). *edit... I got 90+ days in during my first year in T'ride. If you go... go big.:)

Hey Sorch, when at the World Cup I got invited out to Colorado by two different people. I'm thinking about trying to make it out towards the end of the ski season... When is that for you guys? Where in Colorado should I aim to be. My invites are from totally different places (can't remember where exactly off the top of my head).

If your bank roll needs a band of sherpas to be moved... go to Telluride and hook up with some locals for the most extreme experience.

If you just want to have fun (night life) and any level of boarding... Vail is unmatched.

If you time it right Steamboat has insane powder... maybe a little overwhelming even :) Bring your snorkel.

im 23 and work in a warehouse and load semi trucks. at least that's what my job is now. my take home veries on how much I work since I don't usually work my full hours. Once the job is done I'm done and so 40 hours a week are kinda hard. I make about 10$ a hour take home after taxes. so If I work my full 40 hours my paychecks are around 400$. But then you have to figure in rent, phone bills, gas, inshurance, etc. So I'm not really rich.
But for a side job I work at a "semi fancy" dinner as a waiter. usually about 1-2 days a week and one night on the weekend. The one night on the weekend tips vary between 80-150$ in one 8 hour shift. Just depens on how busy we are and how moody I am. But for hte most part.... I'M da BOMB!

I've been holding my job at a pizza place coming up to my 3rd summer. I started as a bus boy, then changed to a host over this past summer, and now I'm back to a bus boy. I'm probably going to switch over to the kitchen and cook the food sometime soon. This coming summer I will probably spend most my time working with my old man on construction sites, but I still will work at the pizza place. I'm not really spending much on paintball, my gun has cost nearly 400, and only in the summer do I play seriously, so over the year I might spend 200 on paint and air. I just spent about 550 buying a PS2 and games.

No seriously...I am the Environmental Compliance Officer for Clemson University. Involves Hazardous Waste and such, EPA & DOT compliance type of stuff. Been here 21 years only 7 in this postition. Used to run all the Animal Research Facilities and then was in Health Physics (Radiation Safety) for a bit before this. It is an upper mid level state job so it is taxing for me to scrape enough together to play but I manage to about once a month. Every once in a while twice. Have to come up with enough for the kid too. I budget $100 a month for it. One case of paint at $55 and the rest saves up for parts and such plus my other hobbies have to come out of that.

I work at my schools Recreation Center (Gym) at the Juice Bar. Yup. I make protien shakes, smoothies, veggie juices etc. all day long. But I love it. I live in the gym, seriously, sometimes I go two-three times a day. Swim for an hour, go do a quick 3 mile run, go to class, go back to some lifting, etc... very very fun!!! Plus its free! :)

I'm the Director of Information Systems for a mid-sized architecture firm... and quitting.

Previously, I was a energy trader, efficiency analyst, network engineer, & security specialist & then muddled through several years as a NOC manager before 'settling down' and taking the DIS job. After evaluating the current economy, Houston's sad state of affairs (Enron, Continental, & Compaq have laid off ~ 11,000 people in the last 6 months), I have decided to jump off the CIO/CTO track.

Within two months I will be transitioning into the automobile wholesale business. From a professional IT position to used car salesman? Ah, but triple the pay :)

Aside from other expensive hobbies, a wife, house, & two car payments, I use aggressive trading to offset the cost of paintball equipment.

Yes, it is. Be very careful about that "overpaid" thing. It'll bite you in the @ss if business goes sour. Make sure you don't stagnate & lock yourself into your job (i.e. unable to find another job at the same pay scale). Always, always, work to improve your worth to the company and marketability to prospects.

I know too many guys that I came up with that got left behind because they kept waiting for their company to pick up the tab on training or didn't finish their degrees.

Thanks G_G. :) I have my degree, and I'm working on my 2k MCSE. I gave up on my NT one, hey I'm an MCP anyway. ;)

My department's pretty small, we all have specialties. I am the best hardware guy, but that doesn't keep me out of the servers. We cross-train and pump each other for info as much as possible.

My short-term goal is to pay off my debts, get a house, then start working on some Router config and LAN administration. That is, if I don't end up in a management position.

/edit I forgot... I work for a French conglomerate... if a division starts to not make as much profit, the other divisions pay more to balance it. We have few layoffs, where I work the skilled laborers make 2/3rds what I do... and aren't exactly loitering on the street corner waiting for employment.

College student right now. I work part time delivering pizzas 2 days a week (makes me about $250 cash every weekend).

During the summer, i still do the pizza job as well as various differnt jobs. 2 summers ago i worked at a golf course at $10 an hour. Last summer i worked at a paper mill making $9.50 an hour (only 4 days a week instead of 5, which was nice). Both brought in teh same amount of money though. So over the summer, i spend my pizza money on paintball ($200 a weekend or so) and i don't play much if at all during teh school year because i have to pay over $500 a month for my car (includes $250 insurance).

There's a very large French conglomerate under the name Air Liquide. The employees get VERY upset if you mispronounce the company name, as most people do.

Looking at it, most people say "Air Lickwide", whereas the correct pronunciation "Air Likkeed". When I was a consultant, I used to have fun w/ the whole Texan schtick & say "Ayer Lickwide" just to rattle cages.

...and yes, Texans say "ayer" instead of "air", just like we pronounce "five" as "fyyvuh. Want to confuse a Texan? Challenge them to say "five" in just one syllable.

I thought you were going to transform that quote into something to do with Burger King. The valiant never Taste of death....mmmm....Flame broiled....mmmm...

I work at 510 skateboarding in berkeley CA.

It rules. I just watch skate videos, make fun of employees/customers/bosses, and get paid.

$8 an hour isn't that bad when you get cheap boards, shoes, and clothes.

I'm also an artist... but that doesn't pay well, so it doesn't count.

:D

I'm a Marine and the wife's a nurse so I make enough to play. Income tax returns really help though. :)
