Almost everyone on this forum is probably some sort or Hobbyist or Tinkerer at heart.....my "disease" as my wife likes to call it extends to many things, including cars. Why not a thread to share right? :D

Heres my baby, 2004 Pontiac GTO

I spent a number of years doing a full body off restoration and finished it 5 years ago.
It's an original 428 car though the engine's been bored .030" over 10.5-1 compression, fully balanced, .533" lift cam Weiand 180* intake, 3000 stall torque converter and Trans Go 2 shift kit.
Currently I'm picking away at a 71 Torino GT, 351 4 speed car.

95 F-250 powerstroke. 4" lift, 36" hummer tires on recentered hummer beadlock rims. Used to be an auto, swapped it for a 5 speed. South Bend ConFE clutch. Open element air filter, BD downpipe to a 4" straight pipe. Bullydog Chip. Stage one injectors, bedlinered floorboard. And a bunch of other crud I forget. Lol.

Just built some shock towers for it and put dual front shocks on it a few weeks ago, extended the front brake lines, and put another leaf in the front leaf packs cause she was sagging a bit... Just need to rework the rear suspension some, build a custom front and rear bumper, and get a tony wildman chip for it and I think maybe I'll be done! :spit_take

Then a bit of sanding and a shot of primer and some Krylon italian olive spray paint. :D Need to build a flatbed for it too and I'm thinking I'm gonna put a full size roof rack with lights on top and throw a spare tire, highlift jack, and some other necessities up there and kinda make a short trip expedition vehicle out of it. :headbang:

Started working on this one again here in the past couple months too (crazy how much time I have on my hands now that I'm divorced! Damn women!)

I'll have to get some new pics of it. Anyways it's an 85 F-250 4x4 with the 6.9L diesel. In the past couple months I've gotten a couple new batteries for it, put new glow-plugs in it, fixed the inside door handles, done a complete brake job (they were BAAAAAD). Put different rims and tires on it, and just tonight I did some work on the flatbed to make some pockets for the fuel filler necks in the side of the bed. It's coming along pretty well actually!

Oh and I have about 20 others project vehicles, but they're mainly on the back-burner for now so i won't bore you with them. :D

haha, hey, it works just as good for a fraction of the price!

and seeing as Holden is owned by GM, it doesnt matter what it was called first. the GTO means as much to us as the Monaro means to you australians. and IMO, either way you look at it, the new Monaro/GTO doesnt do the muscle car name any justice. i mean, hey, the G8 is the same as your Commodore.

yeah i will agree, the new monaros do not compare to the old ones. old muscle is definitely a thousand times better then new muscle.

I am a fan of them, just wish i had the money to buy one.

hence why i settled for the V6 version of what you call G8. i happy with that car, but in no way is it an awesome car :)

It may not do it any justice as far as looks go but it definately does in performance.

Hell I'm dynoing 328/341 at the rear wheels with only an intake/electric dumps/and a tune!

Thats pretty darn good if you ask me. If I'd invest in some drag radials I'd get my 1/4 down. As of right now my PB is 13.6 @ 108mph. That mph alone is good enough for a high 12 sec pass if not a low low 13. :D

All that and its more comfortable than my wifes honda accord. The back seats are almost the same dimension as the front buckets! Ever sat in the back of a Mustang/Vette/F-body? I'm 6'1, 230lbs and I can sit back there nice and comfy :headbang: (not that I ever do haha)

good buy on the 2nd one.

mine is a '91, lots of michigan rust, 251k on the clock, i paid $450 for it.

the D35's axle tubes are tweaked. so i bought a 8.8 ford with 3.73 and a trak-lock for $160 today.

Right now has a 2yd Ice Breaker Vbox and a 8ft western on it. Need to come up with something for more ballast for it.

I have new doors and a hood from a F250 to bolt on but waiting till after winter so it can go into paint. Got her for the right price of $750 is showing 58K on her but thinking 158K. Personally it might sound like I'm taking a back step with buying trucks but to step up a new F350 flat bed that I could use is going to run me around $53K. Plus buying something like that and putting on a few pallets of block or 2 yd's of stone just to beat it up like that doesn't justify the cost.

Nice 66. Is it a C, A or K code? I've got a 67 Fastback in the works right now that will see mass amounts of love once I get back to the States.

Suppose so but you know what would be different, stick a 3.0L Cummins in the ranger (if they could put one in a Jeep Wrangler I bet you can in a ranger) I was a Ford guy up till I owned my FIRST and LAST 6.0L PSD (6 0 oh no), I'd buy another Ford in a heart beat aslong it isn't a 6.0PSD, 6.4PSD, or a 460. I'll stick with my aging F550 twin turbo'd 7.3PSD.

3.9CTD you mean...but yes, 6.0 is junk. I lifted the head off mine with stock turbo #2 only. 6.4 is a good engine. it's just overshadowed by the 7.3, which is a ****in beast and will never die.

Yeah your right it is the 3.9 not the 3.0, my bad. On my 6.0 the head gaskets went out on it and the injectors around the same time  Not cool. The reasons I don't like the 6.4 is to service the engine on major repairs you have to take the cab off, While it doesn't effect the engine preformance, it does hurt the book when I have a in house mechanic that can't do it. I believe it should have been put in only their larger chasis trucks F650 and up. Early model 6.4's became a blow torch with its regen programing. It has something like 7 radiators in it, to me something is wrong there. My skidsteer has only 2, yeah its a smaller engine but is harder worked then a truck will ever be.

That and the 6.4 is slotted to be replaced soon as the emission standards are changing again. I might be a little biased but yes the 7.3L's are tanks I've owned 3 of them at one point (94 SuperDuty, 2000 F550, 2002 F350). I haven't had any real issues over a 7.3, The Superduty never saw the shop other than wear and tear items, brakes tires and glow plugs, but she ended up going down hill fast when I sold her (fuel line split, alternator, batteries, entire front suspension, trans syncro's where all but gone, sticky PTO cables, dump box was tweaked, frozen pins, and the tailgate was crushed) Basically the truck started to fall apart around the engine. My F550 on the other hand is a case for employee miss use, I've seen them and told them not to treat it like a race car, Front diff went out (employee left it 4x4 and was driving it around), enigne rebuild at 68K (didn't check oil level), and recently auto trans went out (that was coming to it, it has had a hard life). All problems aside as these are over the lifetime of these 7.3's. The only other diesel that I think can compare to the 7.3 is Cummins 5.9L I6

Bosch sourced was a joke. I'm no ford fan, but I tip my hat to the 7.3(in stock form). I am a diesel enthusiast, from what I have heard the new engine will be solid. The emissions junk is what will kill everyone, not just ford. DPF, Urea injection, and EGR are a JOKE. My Duramax got 13.6 avg mpg when new. When I straight piped it, programmed it without dpf regen mode, and blocked the egr, I now get 20-22.

Head is the biggest issue with the 6.0. Injectors are rarer because of the idi setup. My oldest 7.3 has 219K on the original injectors. I run diesel kleen each tank and replace the fuel filter every 10k.

Most big work on any diesel (except the cummins) CAN constitute popping off the cab. Most 6.0, 7.3 injector jobs do because it's such a ***** to get the turbo off.

As far as regen stuff goes, I discussed a little above, complain to the EPA because it truly is not worth it.

I have had several cummins 5.9's (haven't had a chance at the 6.7 yet) and they are great. I would compare them with the 7.3 beyond the durability. I would say you can expect 300-400k worth of compression out of the 7.3 with highway use. My father has a gen 1 dodge with 482k on it as a DD, a twenty year old truck, those aren't highway miles... I think the cummins is a longer lasting and more reliable engine, where the 7.3 will just burn anything you feed it. I had a friend's wife fill up with K-1 once, I told him to just throw in a lot of additive to offset the low sulfur content and run it. All is well 40k miles later

I have DOT standards along with the EPA standards that are piggy backed to follow and they check everything to make sure your compliant. They'll plug my trucks in to make sure emissions aren't bipassed to dipping the tank to make sure I'm running with low sulfur. Found out the hard way of the DOT's ways when I didn't have a half ton marked with DOT #'s, a nice $900 fine. So thus I don't mess around with emissions. You can get away with it cause your Duramax is for private use.

I do have one 24valve Cummins 1 ton in the fleet. I bought it late last year. I haven't really towed to much with it other than picking up new mowers or towing the skid loaders to and from the dealer for service. But it does tow awesome you can't even notice the 7,800lb New Holland LS190 behind you. The one I've noticed is that the turbo spools a lot earlier than the 7.3's do. Yeah its a Dodge which is the underdog in the truck market, but it does fine. My only problem with it is that it doesn't have a locker in the rear end which would help out plowing snow.

The GM trucks come with a G80 locker, but any locker that comes with a truck isn't too good. I have always had good luck with Yukon lockers if you are looking to get one.

In your fleet? What do you do?

Never really need a Yukon just Pickup's.

I own and operate a Medium sized Landscape Company with 6 trucks.
Ford:
F550 7.3
F350 7.3
F350 351

Dodge
3500 5.9L cummins
1500 5.9L 360

GMC
1500 4.6 ???? Can't remember right now.

I used to have 94 F-SuperDuty (still the greatest truck I ever owned) Actually this pig had a factory locker and it did fine ecspecially when tagged with the 5:13 rear end and the 5spd granny gears. Slow but trucked along.

Also use to have 03 F350 6.0 that was a problem until someone stole it and totaled it out after smashed it into a gas station and flipping in the chase afterwards.

I'm looking at expanding my fleet. Looking for a bigger truck as a opition. I think the time has come. This year with snow plowing contracts have graced me, plus the prices are dropping out on some really nice trucks.

By the time that happens I'll be dead. There is so much talk or hype about Toyota bringing Diesel to the US market, that honestly I don't think it'll happen. At least not till Ford, Dodge, or GM drop out of the market. Actually Toyota does have a diesel in the US, the Hino yeah won't go there.

no pics as nothing really done mod-wise so they're your stock factory options....

09 Genesis Coup 2.0T, TSUKUBA Red with Black interior, this is my "fun weekend car"

09 G8 GXP Stryker Blue Metallic with Onyx/Red Leather interior, this is my DD

like I said no performance mods (not really wanting to void warranty), but I did debadge the G8 and am getting the rears tinted..

I actually liked my Goat more than the G8, but mainly because I had thrown a SC on there and replaced the front grille with that of a Holden that I imported..then I got t-boned and they totaled it :(

I've had the Genesis about 2 months now and that thing is nice, I test drove the 3.8 Track Edition but I didn't think it was a peppy as the 2.0 Track with the turbo, maybe the added weight or what but it's still a nice ride and fun to drive :)

well the Genesis is gonna turn out to be a garage queen I won't deny it lol.

The G8 is nice and quick, but I've got a family and it's easier to haul them around in, otherwise I'd probably garage that and get something else hah!

The goat was the Ls2, I put a Roots kit on there similar to the Harrop:

I actually bought it used off of a guy who got his goat totaled, funny thing was, I found that out after I had pulled it and posted on the forum about it. I actually sold it to another member of that forum and as far as I know he's still running it.

At the time I think I was only putting out a little over 550 horse, and I didn't have that great of a tune on there....

Theres a local guy out here who will do a tune to the G8, but I'm not sure if that'll cause warranty issues or what, and being that the car is less than a year old I don't want to risk it :(
