View Full Version : Poll: How many use 3k vs 4500??

Guys,

With my new approach, 3,000 psi is looking doable but 4500 is a bit harder. I need to know how many of you out there either use 3k regularly or would settle for a 3k compressor because your just tinkering etc. This would be for a compressor that would hopefully be right around the 300 buck mark.

Thanks!

3k would work for me. Most of the fields I play at only fill to 3k anyway.

4500 preferred. Highest quality preferred.

i only have one 4.5k tank that's usable at the moment, i have three or four that are the older 68/3k flatlines though. most filling i do is off a scuba that only gets me to around 2700 psi max anyhow... so a 3k station is hardly going to hurt my feelings.

I own and use a carbon 68 3k... but only cause I got it for free! :ninja: When I do buy a tank I won't purchase a 3k unless its like a 13ci for a pump or something. However if having the compressor be only 3k drops the price significantly go for it!

I think I speak for everyone that anything would be better than nothing. 2k would be fine. 4500 everyone would love but 3k we can live with.

I personally would want 4500.

Edit:

Production option for us maybe.

I only use 3k. That said, I don't think anyone will be relying on this to fill their tank before dashing off to a tournament. 3k should be more than enough for either gun teching or playing out in the boonies.

Absolutely need 4500 if it helps I'm willing to invest in a better shop compressor

Looks like we are going to need two models. 3k budget and 4.5k deluxe.

I just see this as a tool to assist with tinkering and save me having to make a trip to the dive shop to fill my scuba tank, so 3k is fine. All the sites I play at have 4.5k air, so it's not going to be used to fill my tank for playing.

My scuba tank is 3000 so as long as I can fill that then I'd be happy.

Most of the fields I play at only fill to 3k anyway.

My local field only fills to 3000 also.

This would be one of my reasons for having the compressor go to 4500... I'll top off at the field before I leave then once home I would fill my tanks the rest of the way. for the next time I was at the field for game play.

All my tanks are older 3K tanks. I dont plan on buying more tanks until these cant be hydro'd anymore. So 3k is fine with me.

All of my tanks are 4.5K except my 13ci for my phantom. If we could get an affordable, high quality 3K compressor for home use...I'd be grateful and happy!

i traded off my 4.5k because i thought there werent any fill stations around, turns out i was wrong. so right now i have 3k, but thats fine for at home.

4500 would get my mags more use.

But 3000 will fill my scuba which will keep my sniper fed all day long.

So that's fine.

Not true......what if i wanted to go to a renegade field and had no access to air all day.

I would settle for 3K...but would prefer 45

Any Chance on producing both?

I agree with Zap. I use both, 3000 only because of tank size (13 & 22ci)

The 2 options seems to the most interesting one. Personally I want the 4500 option for my HPA tank. That said most Scuba tank users will only need 3K.

Right now when I refill at home I use scuba and I can only get close to 3K on my first fill and less than that on each after.

Refilling the scuba at the dive shop is not cheap.

If I had a way to get my tanks up to 3K that would be fine by me plenty of air to test and play with.

My field has 4500 but it is rare that it every delivers that.

I've got a 3K and a 4.5K. If I were to buy this, it would be to tinker at home or at least get me a head start at the field so I could sleep in. I don't play outlaw at all.

I'd like a 4.5K but I could use a 3K no problem.

I'm interested in being able to tinker. As long as it can keep topping off my 3k SCUBA tank on a regular basis then I'm totally cool. So here are the two scenarios I would buy this compressor for:

1) To be used sporadically to get full 4500 fills on a 68 or 72 ci tank. (probably 4 times/mo)

2) To continually top off my 3k SCUBA tank on a regular basis. i.e. I plan to fill 2 68/72 4500 tanks off an 80cf 3k SCUBA and then top it off with this system your designing.

Outside of those two purposes I don't have a need. The dive shop for me is about 6 miles away and @$10/fill, would fill my scuba tank 30-50 times for the price of the unit in which we're looking at. I do admit that I am rare and that this unit is primarily for those who wouldn't have such access to HPA. In any event those are my $.02 and I can't wait to see what you're building whether or not I ever buy one. It's great to have innovators like you still around

Tom YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Keep up the hard work!

I never needed more than 3000 since if I'm playing a scenario I'll either run out of ammo or get shot out before I run out of air. Can always go refill before I go back out. Same goes for speedballin'.

You figure you do 20+ fills a year. Buying this will pay itself off in 2 years or less and you still have the unit. I gave my 2 tanks to my cousin when I took a hiatus from the game and diving due to being in the military but when I had them I filled them up at least 2-3 times a month for both scuba and paintball. Filling 3 tanks once a month at $10 a fill. That's a good chunk of money for the year and nothing to show for it but underwater pictures and welts

Sounds like it would be cheaper to own two 4500 tanks filled to 3k.

I have 3k and 4.5k tanks, but getting a fill over 3800 is still rare. The last field I played at just had one fill line at 3k.

Tom, without a shop compressor and an initial fill, would the system you have for starting with a shop compressor still work but just take longer? Or does it cause excess wear?

If nothing else I could leave 500 psi in my scuba tank (recommended anyway) and use it to prep bottles as well as keeping the scuba tank primed.

Is the idea that the compressor runs slow enough that a lot of the water comes out in the compressor, or will we need more than a trap?

I'd prefer 4500 too, but 3000 is more than enough for tinkering and tuning, and even for most rec-play. As others say, even 2000 is much better than nothing.

my tanks are 4500, but an option to fill to 3000 is still very nice. allows me to tune and mess around with my markers at home. some of the fields near me only fill to 3k, so i'm ok with that too.

I'd much prefer 4500 especially if it was only $100 more or so (not sure how much more cost the extra 1500 would add) but would settle for 3000 especially for the $300 price point

I have 4500 psi bottles , but to be honest they have never been filled to 4500. I fill out of 3000 psi scubas.

3000 psi is plenty.

I answered 4500 psi because that would be the ideal, in case I wanted to go playing with a full pre-filled tank but in truth, 3000 would also be acceptable as it would help a LOT when tinkering and filling the scuba up.

For me it's a 4500 or nothing.
The field is right around the corner and I can get free 3000 fills, when those run out if I need air to do more tinkering and nobody is at the field I use my scuba(which only costs me $5 to get refilled).
So a 3000 unit would prove rather useless for me.
I was wanting it to top off my tanks with a 4500 fill.

ElPanda
12-13-2009, 09:04 PM
I have a 4500 but I'm gonna give strictly 3k users the courtesy on this one, plus it will shorten the fill time, and all I need for tinkering is 3k at a time anyway

You're right of course... but in my household we have three mag toters so it would actually be worse than you point out. Alright, I'll have to revise my post having thought about it a little more. Here's the question of the hour.

Q: In a previous thread you said that the big cost of the unit is the motor. You also stated that this was also a major factor in how long this compressor could be run... So how does the motor your thinking of using affect the length of time this unit can run?

Half my tanks are 3k and half are 4.5k all the fields around and shops only fill 3k so that is fine for me.
Good Luck Tom

I have one of each. Obviously it would be nice to have the 4.5K option, but 3K is plenty more than anyone needs for home tinkering or rebel ball. I'd be more than happy with a 3K compressor.

Currently only own a 3K tank but have plans after the first of the year to buy a 4.5K tank. I would like to see 4.5K fills but would be happy with 3K fills from a $300 home unit. I mostly play renegade and I am conservative on the trigger so 3K would be fine. Still in the market at a $300 price tag and 3K fills.

That said, if I have to buy a shop compressor on top of that...not so good. All shop compressors on Home Depot and Lowes websites are about $200 for something that looks decent. Used, of course, would be cheaper but new...not sure where these $100 compressors I have been reading about are coming from.

I would be using this to fill a scuba tank, so 3000 would be fine. I already own a gas booster to get 4500 from that.

I would much rather have the 45k, i'm not sure I would want to spend $300 on only being able to fill to 3k, and still need to use my shop compressor.
