Was the dish first prepared in the county of Brunswick, Virginia or in the town of Brunswick, Georgia?

Believe it or not theres a monument in Brunswick Georgia :

Both areas have there own "historical" story of when and who made the first pot of the
famous stew.

What do you think ?

Why does anyone even care ?

:wow:

LOL. Mom is from Georgia... so I asked.

Said Southern Living magazine has beat this to death.

My grandparents had a recipe that went back several generations that included squirrel and rabbit. They were from Kentucky, so there's no telling.

Haha I just drove through Brunswick County, VA last week on my way home, and actually stopped off and drove around downtown because I was curious. They too have quite the devotion to the stuff. I think "home of Brunswick stew" or something like that was actually on their welcome sign.

I had no idea this was even an issue before then.
