View Full Version : Need a Name for the Mini-Compressor!

All,

Ok I need a cool name for the compressor. It needs to meet the following criteria:

Not sound like something familiar with compressors . Along the lines of Apple for computers and Amazon for books. They dont' sound like the products they represent.

Good if it sounds small.

No personal names like Kaye Kompressors

Should be easily searched on google and easy to spell.

Needs to be CATCHY so you don't forget it.

Relating to pellet guns a bonus.

If I pick your name, you agree to let me have it. As compensation I will give you a new compressor for 100 bucks (below my cost) and lots of glory and adulation! If two people come up with the same name the first poster gets it.

Thanks!

Mr. Kaye

Will you be using the AGD Logo and name for this or your keeping is seperate?

If so. I would go with:

-AGD PCP (Pre-charged pneumatic) since that's what it's mainly being made for (air guns), for the most part. :rolleyes:
-PCP Unlimited
-PCP ULC (Ultra Light Compressor)
-AGD ULC (Booo on Tuna :p )

The Airgun Designs PRS (Personal Refill System)

The Airgun Designs HRS (Home Refill System)

Or we can call it the Phoenix Air System. I say 'Phoenix', b/c I am hoping that this project will help AGD rise out of the ashes, and once again become a major producer of high quality paintball parts. Maybe this will pave the way for AGD to start producing markers again (Pump mags...???) Maybe I'm just a dreamer...?? :rolleyes:

OK... buy why Mu? For those that don't know µ is actually the lowercase representation of Greek letter Mu or Mi. It does have a numeric value of 40 in the greek studies and so far as wikipedia says: If the Alpha and Omega represent the beginning and end... µ represents the middle. Just silly geekery but I was just interested.

P.S> for all you engineers and physics nuts out there you'll notice that I avoided the scientific representation of µ... I'll leave tat up to you. I like the name uFill though.

Hows bout the Air Ball Buddy?

Heres why

While obviously people will abbreviate it many different ways, the Air Ball Buddy gives a little bit of everything for somebody:

Air Ball Buddy:
While implying throwback to the bygone days of oldschool paintball, airballshould give any paintball player worth his salt flashbacks to Mags, Cockers, and spyders on the crazyiest speedball field you've ever seen- typically with the snake horizontal across the 50. I dunno about you, but I start thinking about the old days and I want someone to go back their with, hence my buddy, who's always got my back (or my tank).

A BB

Relating to pellet guns a bonus.
Pellet gun referance, yay BB's :clap:

Air Ball:
Term now outdated in paintball because of its replacement term "speedball". Airball makes me think of a Beer Ball, which everyone knows is clutch.

How do you paintball alone?

Sadly, there are no Celtic deity names that apply but there are in Greek and Roman...

\/ Greek Gods of Wind \/
* Aeolus - king of winds
* Boreas - north wind
* Zephyr - west wind
* Notus - south wind
* Eurus - east wind

\/ Roman Gods \/
* Jupiter - King of the Gods and the storm, air, and sky
* Aeolus - god of storms and winds
* Aequitas - goddess of fair trade and honest merchants [This personally Applies to Tom] :)
* Strenua or Strenia - goddess of strength and endurance
* Tempestas - goddess of storms
* Venti - the winds, equivalent to the Greek Anemoi.
North wind: Aquilo(n) or Septentrio;
South wind: Auster;
East wind: Vulturnus;
West wind: Favonius;
North west wind: Caurus or Corus.

TOM THUMB

- first American steam locomotive (rile our red, white and blue blood)
- it was very small (you're making a MINI compressor)
- slow and steady (there's faster out there but it's not always a race; also reminds me of AGD's marketing strategy as opposed to the rest of paintball's infinite list of stale, burnt out, expired companies--you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig)
- what wife/mom will argue with this setup when it's named Tom Thumb?

"It needs to meet the following criteria:

"Not sound like something familiar with compressors . Along the lines of Apple for computers and Amazon for books. They dont' sound like the products they represent."
- Steam and air is the closest link... CHECK!

"Good if it sounds small."
- Tom and Thumb, two syllables... CHECK!

"No personal names like Kaye Kompressors"
- Eh, but I think everyone would love to have TOM in the name--it'll envoke greatness! A subtle but poignant easter egg for all of us.

"Should be easily searched on google and easy to spell."
- T-O-M and T-H-U-M-B, a third grader can spell that... CHECK!

"Needs to be CATCHY so you don't forget it."
- "Hey do you have air to play today?" "Yeah, I hooked my tank up to my Tom Thumb last night so I'm good to go!"
- the two "t"s can be stretched as being alliteration
- it's also vaguely familiar of the Tom Tom GPS system which is rather catchy... CHECK!

"Relating to pellet guns a bonus."
- Hrm, nope, but maybe one day it'll join the illustrious ranks of Crosman, Daisy and Red Ryder!

(Just my little thought on the matter...)

Magnum Compressors

Pays homage to the MAG community and obviously "magnum" will be identifiable by the airsoft folks.

Hey Tom have you thought about taking a couple of these to the extravaganza next month?

Also how about
Air Lion
LionAir

It seems fitting to me because of the Lions in the AGD logo.

Element A.I.R. / Air Injected Resource

or

Technicor A.I.R. / Air Injected Resource

Or better yet, have the acronym be Air Injected Refill. That makes it a little simpler.

If you prefer to have the company branding as part of it.

Simple, easy to remember and catchy.
Plus, many in paintball will remember the A.I.R. valve. :D

Though I do admit to having trouble with the acronym, I'm sure something better could be thought up.

Compound AIR

(air injected refuel)(inspired from my previous post 163)

Compound - since the air around us is a compound of various elements
AIR - the acronym AIR states the purpose and function of the product

The Gnome or Air Gnome

It is completely irrelevant, and therefore appropriate in this case.
