Very nice, I have been thinking out making/having made an AGD shirt as well.

I was thinking about it for a long time. Then I made a few attempts at making the screen, whenI failed a few times i abandoned the project, then a couple weeks ago, instead of remaking the screen, I just used chlorine to get rid of some blotches and now the screen is great. But as you can see in some of the pictures, the print on that shirt is kind of messed up, I think I need to clamp the shirt down or something.

That's nice! Maybe you could have a batch made for the MOTM winners again? What do you think about doing a batch, sell half of them (for twice the cost) and have the other half as a prize? I'd buy one...

I would like everyone who wants this shirt to have one! And I agree it would be cool as a MOTM free prize.

I am not too interested in making money since the profit would be minimal anyway.

I just googled a place to buy T-shirts, turns out I can get a plain shirt for about $2. I have plenty of black ink, for those who would prefer white ink I'd have to buy some of that (a few bucks).

I'll think about this and see what I can do about getting everyone what they want for as little money as possible.

Thats awesome! I would definately be in for one as well but, if you ask me I say make sure its a good quality shirt. Would hate to have such a great product line logo on a cheap shirt. :)

oh yeah and don't forget shipping to Canada ;)

Well you guys could always send in a shirt or 10 for him to do

That way there's no  about the quality of the shirt

Edit: a buddy of mine use to do stuff like this and if I remember correctly he would stretch the shirt a little where the design is going to be. It makes the color look darker when it's released but the pattern will shrink a little..

It's like writing something on a balloon, when it pops it shrinks down but the color is darker.

You should check out your local craft store (sounds kinda gay I know) and se if they can hook you up with a deal if you buy a bundle. A buddy of mine makes his own shirts, and he has the craft store place orders for him and they give him a good deal on them because he buys all his ink there for full price.

Might be cheaper since you wouldn't have to pay shipping.

That's awesome. I would add my vote for black w/ white lettering, although I would gladly buy one of each (one black, one white).

I think these might end up costing more than you think. Sure, you can get a t-shirt for $2, but usually those kinds of cheap shirts are designed to be worn UNDER clothes. They're too thin and stretch too easily for outer wear. If you want a good, quality shirt that's inexpensive, I would echo Will's suggestion of going to your local craft store. You can usually find nice t-shirts for about $5 there, and you may be able to talk them into some kind of bulk deal.

Also, after buying all the ink, remember that you have to ship them too. That's gonna cost another $3 or $4 minimum (you'll have to buy big envelopes too). So, if you charge $10 a shirt, I think you'll barely break even.

HOWEVER, all that being said, I still think the shirts are worth doing. Personally, I would eagerly pay up to $15 for a nice, quality t-shirt to advertise automags. And if you could do it in black with white lettering..... ever better.

Two dancing bananas for you.

sorry i never made any progress on this, but I wanted to let you guys know that after re-abandoning this project, I now plan on re-resuming it. I will let you know when I have made a successful final product, at which point I should have a set price and could begin taking orders.

Look into Jerzees brand shirts. That is what the local sporting goods shops around here uses. One that we most recently purchased from uses the HeavyWeight blend and charges $2.05 for regular sizes and $3-4 for XL sizes. Total costs for shirt + screening is only $4.05 for YS-L and $5-6.00 for XL - 3XL. Of course they are a licensed business and probably get a discount. Another brand that makes T-shirts specifically for screen printing is Gildan. I think they tend to be more though.

Okay, I just tested my new method of printing and the test was successful! This means I can now advance to the next step. I'm not sure what the next step is yet, but here are some photos to show the progress as of this morning.

1)http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/th_IMG_2181.jpg (http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/?action=view&current=IMG_2181.jpg) 2)http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/th_IMG_2183.jpg (http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/?action=view&current=IMG_2183.jpg) 3)http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/th_IMG_2188.jpg (http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/?action=view&current=IMG_2188.jpg)
4)http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/th_IMG_2189.jpg (http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/?action=view&current=IMG_2189.jpg) 5)http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/th_IMG_2191.jpg (http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/?action=view&current=IMG_2191.jpg) 6)http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/th_IMG_2193.jpg (http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z304/Qful/?action=view&current=IMG_2193.jpg)

In pictures #2 and #3 you can see the cardpaper shims I placed under the screen to create clearance between the bottom of the screen and the fabric, which I read in a book is the solution to the smearing/double printing that happened in my last attempt at printing. This print was great, as you can see. There are some spots that look slightly faded but it still looks good imo. BTW the t-shirt I used for this test was of odd proportions. When I get the print on a normal T-shirt I'll take good pics to show what the size and location of the print will look like on a normal shirt.

I think the next step is to find out the qualities and quantities of T-shirts I should buy. I think I'm going to take a poll to find out about how many shirts of each color and size I should get.

Anyone watch the world cup this morning? I loved the ending.

EDIT: A poll has been added to the thread! I need to get an idea of about how many shirts of each size and color I should buy, so if you think you'll have the desire and money to purchase a shirt after I get them printed, go ahead and vote for what you would likely be buying.

There's a place nearby me that sells T-shirts, when I go talk to them I'll see if there's extra cost for color variety. If there isn't or if it's low, I can get all sorts of color fabric. The ink is probably a little more expensive but ****, I could probably get more than just two inks too. I just want to keep it kinda on the cheap side.

can we send in a hoottie of our choice and pay for you to do the screening on it????? thats on top of buying one or two shirts. pretty please

questionful
07-12-2010, 01:37 AM
The print can be made on the front or back no problem. I'll be sure to find out what each person wants before I actually print on the shirts.
I'll see if I can order longsleeves at little or no extra cost.
I think the Automags.org logo would look sick, but I don't think I'll be making an additional screen for that, it's kind of a pain and would require a purchase.
I have some "metallic" red ink, but I don't think it looks too good. Maybe I can put up a picture of what it would look like on black fabric. I think I also have metallic blue and a silver, not sure I'll check later and put up pics.
You can send stuff in for me to make the print on, but what if I mess it up? On a shirt, I could just keep the messed up shirt for myself and lose like $4, but if I print on someone's favorite hoodie and mess up that would be bad. I could try though, chances are it would be successful. Up to you.

I'll leave this poll up for another few days then I'll go about getting price quotes for what I need to buy.

Well the position of the print on the shirt is completely up to you when you order. I just tested it in the position I personally prefer. I like that spot for some reason. Reminds me of these two things:

Dumb question maybe - Are these a "classic fit" T, or a "slim fit" T? I ask b/c it will affect the size I choose. I also would be willing to spend extra for a heavy duty T as mentioned above. I prefer the graphic on the back. Any color shirt is OK with me and I would probably want one of each graphics/shirt color combination anyway...

Edit: I would also be interested in sending you my own shirts for printing so I can get colors other than black and white...

I haven't chosen the shirts I'll be buying yet.

After I heat-set the ink and test it with multiple washes, I'll be ready to receive shirts in the mail to print on. I still haven't found a source for buying shirts, I'll hopefully get around to that in the next week.

Meanwhile, enjoy this surprise! A video of a shirt being printed. My first youtube video.
