This thing is 99% done, just got to get my x-valve back from a guy on mcarter who is fab'ing a cap for the valve where the reg used to go.

So uh....ano recommendations?

It'd be pretty sweet if you either threw the LPR into the grip for a sleeper style, or had it mounted onto the vert ASA, it would really make it slick IMO And then you could also get a smaller ASA that better matched the frame. Just my .02

But other then that great job, can't wait to see everything all done and anno'd nice (if that is your intention)

Oh yes, I do intend. Notice the last line said "ano recommendations?" haha. But thank you, I might end up moving the LPR to the vert asa, I like that look. Probably won't go sleeper, I like people knowing what it is

How come you are using a regulator? (Though I wholeheartedly salute you for selecting one of the best regs on the market.)

he is capping off/removing the back regulator portion of the X-valve replacing it with a short cap and using the sidewinder to regulate it making it as short as possible.

as for anno why not dust black it goes good with everything :ninja:

I hope you don't get too much shootdown, i've heard of that happening with setups like this. Looks good though, can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks guys. Capping a classic valve is as easy as making a cap and switching out the reg for it. On an x-valve, however, there is a little more work to be done because the reg pin is part of the dump chamber for the regulator and would cause the gun to keep dumping air. So I also had the reg pin redesigned which in theory is going to increase recharge rate and airflow...we will see though.

The ano's I'm considering most: Clear, Dust black w/ gloss accents, or white powdercoat with gloss black accents.

Dust black w/ gloss accents

Another thing I've found out is that you like both Sidewinder's and the standard bike grip you can get the best of both worlds. Turns out the rubber off of a bike grip fits perfectly over the Sidewinder and is super comfy. Done this to every sidewinder I've owned and never turned back since.

haha good to know, I might try it sometime. Speaking of the bike grips, I split one of mine a while back by accident and realized that they are actually a really dark red and not black. If you hold it up to a light you can see it much better lol.

or keep the CP and sleeper the lpr inside the frame.

Just curious is there a tech thread somewhere that talks about the output pressure that reg would need to be making for consistent operation of the modified X-Valve you're going to be running.

or i guess another way i could put it would be what is the post regulated pressure an x-valve puts out with the normal regulator built into the back half of the valve?

or better yet find one of the function on/off direct mount asa :) they would look decent on that :) and you could still make it sleeper :)

This will likely be trial and error on my part because I haven't gotten a direct answer for that question. I believe that it is about 400-450 psi though.

It'll be interesting to see how a Sidewinder reg works with Mag input pressures. They're great regs, but I didn't know they were adjustable over 600 psi or so.

0-700 is apparently the range. I doubt I'll have to go above 500psi though.

D'oh! I was factoring in the Mag's working pressure with the AIR valve attached. Yeah, you should be fine with your setup :D

Just a little update:

Moved the LPR to the vert asa, removed ano in some areas and made new aluminum grips.

the vert ASA looks alot better now (you planning on leaving the marker this way or annoe-ing the whole thing?)

The LPR looks way better the way it is now, way to go!

I liked the old grips better :ninja:

I love the way it looks now but I want to ano it too haha. I'm thinking maybe a clear ano on the raw parts but who knows.

As far as the grips, I like how with exception to the screws the trigger frame looks like one solid piece. The old grips are cool too but they add a lot of thickness and it just doesn't feel as nice.

edit- oh, and the valve is on the way home  :bounce:

so did you fab those first grips yourself? if so..

any interest in fabbin some more? I have one Y-Grip and two Z-Grips that I want some nice, and different grips for. :D

you gonna strip the anno on the valve too?

Yes I did make them myself. To be honest I would rather not make more though. I would need to templates for both if I did because my y-grip is milled and I don't have a z. Plus the only tool at my disposal is a dremel :) I'd have to think about it.

As for stripping the ano on the valve- I have thought about it but first I will see how it looks as another black accent. Soaking it in lye kinda scares me too lol.

Update:

Got my valve back with the custom made cap!

I've only had a short time with it but so far it seems to work perfectly fine. Will post some videos tomorrow hopefully.

Had problems getting the LPR to seal on the vert asa so I'm sending in a new one to get drilled by a professional (Luke)..and also getting a 2nd detent hole drilled. Then have a UTB on the way :D

All that is there is some metal filler so I guess I could. My initial plan was to get it powdercoated and you wouldn't even see those screw holes.

Why go through all the trouble of making a marker that compact and then slap an incredibly long barrel on it???

My 2 cents.

prolly means too long for the gun:)
it's just aesthetics for me, id stick an 8-10" barrel on there

I have a 10 and 12. That Eigenbarrel only comes as a 14 though. Plus I'd rather have it shoot accurately than have it look nice when given the choice.

Progress..Progress..

Got my UTB and soldered everything up. Cut a slot in the grips for the membrane pad (still needs to be cleaned up). Now just need to mount the microswitch and cut a slot in the rail for the solenoid and we will be in business.

I have one question, as a fan of and fellow owner of the Y-Grip. Your picture says "custom milled Y-Grip" what all was done do it during the custom milling? is it just the curvey bit at the bottom of the grip? who did the milling?

The front of the y-grip was completely milled off. A normal y as an angle in the front that matches the back. Mine was milled straight down like a 90^ frame would be. I did the milling and tried to do it clean, it came out really well imo. Thanks again.

Very nice! To be honest I like the look of the bare aluminum. I would use a fine grit media (120 grit aluminum oxide) and blast it with a low pressure to give it a even sheen, then just clear coat it to protect it. I also like the idea of a satin black as it looks very clean. Whatever color you go with you will still have a nice Mag!

The gun looks great, though I feel you might be misinformed about the relationship between length of barrel and accuracy. Its cuts off a bit before 14 " ;)

honestly if the eigenbarrel came as a 12 incher I would have preferred that. But yea I understand longer does not mean more accurate...the eigenbarrel just seems to shoot straighter with tiny paint because of the underbore

I believe he is referring to the bore of the barrel, which is around .676.

Anyway, I'm digging your mag a lot. I like the idea of using a vertical regulator as opposed to the one on the xvalve, I bet the weight is better distributed. I also like the fact that it's going to be electronic (is it going to have eyes?). Don't get me wrong I love my mechanical mags but, if it's going to be a double trigger it might as well be walkable!

Thanks, the only reason I would get eyes is if I run out of things to do to this marker :) I've chopped it down to nothing, capped the valve, pneu'ed it and am now ep'ing it so you never know. There really is no need with the lvl 10 though.
