View Full Version : Thinking About A Q-Loader for my Mag..

Anyone have a Q-loader on their mag?
Do they work pretty well for mostly rec/scenario play?

How easily is it to properly mount to my mag if I want it to go under the barrel (can slightly be on either side of the gun, but I want it to be parallel with the barrel)?

Is this something that would make me want to get a warp-feed ULE?

--Edit--
Do the 'pods' fit into regular podpacks?
I noticed after researching that the pods only hold 100 each... Does that ever become bothersome when you know you could have 200 in a regular hopper?

Thanks,
Jason

I've used Q's on a lot of markers , Q's can be finicky , they dont like some paints , they don't like high humidity ( soft paint ) , you can put them just about anywhere you want though

This is what I prefer now ;
I'm also in due process of setting up another X Mag with a warp

I use a Q-loader on two of my markers (pics shortly) and they work great. Now with that said I will tell you this, Q-loaders work great once you get they set up right. You really need to understand how they work to keep from breaking paint when feeding, and when removing the pods. Mounting on the marker is eazy, QL has plenty of mounting kits to do what you want. Your set up that you mentioned is very simple, it would be the basic kit. The main thing is setting the prewind of the spring (explained in the instructions) which varies with different set ups. Switching pods is very easy, and as far as pod holders, I use a tac vest or a waist pack. I think most all the newer stuff will hold they.

They arent very parctical and are finicky. If you absolutely want it off of the top of your gun just go warpfeed.

But wouldn't that be pretty heavy and very... for lack of a better phrase... 'in the way'?

The pods don't fit into most podpacks very well, but there are some that take them fine...

:D

Want me to add it to the list? I've got about 20 pods I think... I can hook you up with a setup if you want...

I coulld be interested, but for my own mag, not my buddy's. I would think I'd like to have it under the barrel or at least coming from the left side since I shoot righty... PM me details when you PM me about the other stuff.

I also saw a mag in the official mag pictures that had a WR ULE with a 90* fitting attached to that, which the Rotor connected to, which ultimately put the rotor off the top and to the side a bit... but it looked custom. How could I pull that off if I wanted the hopper off to the left with a WL, perhaps...?

The most important things to consider, in order of priority:

How much paint do you shoot before you decide you want to go back to reload with paint? This is the single most important criteria. Since you haven't mentioned your paint consumption, I'm assuming it's because you don't really track it currently, so this is already a bad sign. If you shoot more than 400 rounds before going back to reload, i.e. 3 pods in your pack and 1 on your gun, you're probably not going to like being limited by paint or having to wear way more pods.
What is your mechanical aptitude? The people who get the most out of Q-loaders are the ones with the best mechanical aptitude and motivation. They're not really complicated devices, but then again, anything can be as complicated as you make it.

I don't think anything else matters until you get these two questions answered.

Mounting the Q under the barrel pretty much sucks; it's much better in a warp style position.

Just letting you know from personal experience, I would get a standard hopper. Qloaders are a pain at any event. They're fine for weekend warrior at a pickup field, but I quickly found myself wanting something that was more diverse, easy to deal with, and more compatible with a team.

I normally play a whole match at my field with a hopper full of 200 and I rarely run out... but that makes it nice not needing to carry around pods or anything.

Hrm... tough call then. I'm in roughly the same boat -- I usually walk out with one pod on the gun, and one pod in my pack. It'd be nice to not have to wear the pack, but for me it's worth it.

If you don't want to go with the pack, a Warp might be a better option for you then.

If your hopper isnt sticking out from behind the bunker your head/mask is and its a bigger
target than a hopper, so I dont see any point to either a Q or Warp.
Q pods are a major pain to load/reload and the mechanism is somewhat delicate, and the Warp is one awkward contraption and a huge added target.

I just look thru the hopper like its not even there.
Center feed with hopper all the way for me.
Just my opinion.
But in the end, its all a matter of preference.

I like to keep it supported by the tank and frame so it doesnt have too much tension and break. They are a little flimsy at times.

I think having the hopper off the marker is a HUGE advantage for going over the top of ANY bunker. If you get hit in the warp or qloader you were gonna get hit in the chest. THOUGH when i get a hopper hit, usually that ball would have missed me.

Also, I find im WAY more accurate in a pop shooting situation without a hopper on top of my marker. I don't have to look through anything.

That looks pretty good Phantom!

If I pick up a WL ULE, I have to have something done to my rail, right?

Yes, you'll need a notch, otherwise the body won't be able to sit on the rail.

I think one of the most important steps in using a qloader is this.

Preloading the feed tube with paint.

Often times if you fail to do this, the q WILL break paint in your breach when you click the "clip" into place and it slings the paint through the hose to the breach. Remember, the pods will empty themselves in a second or so with nothing to stop it... that's quite a bit of force.

Other than the finicky nature of it. I love mine, don't play in the rain with it though. :D Q's do NOT like rain at all. I also happen to have a couple extra official qpod waist harnesses if you want one.
