my question is regarding getting my tanks tested. i have a 45 with an Armageddon regulator; when i send out my tank to be tested does it need to have the regulator on it or can i just send the tank in? reason being is im currently switching my regs on my tanks and i rather not risk having anything happen to the regulator. any advice or tips on this would be very helpfull.

thanks,

Joe

also who would be the best/ cheapest to send my tanks out too.

When I had my 68/4500 re-hydro'd, they required that the regulator was removed.

Many firefighting supply shops can hydro a tank. Look in the yellow pages and make a call.

Remove reg. Send insured fedex to Ninja paintball. Insured Fedex is way cheaper than getting your tank lost in the mail.

Remove the reg yourself or it may come back in pieces .
Find a local company to do it, dont waste money shipping it.
I saw a local fire equipment company advertising paintball tank testing on Craigslist.
Times are tough and most companies that ignored paintballers before are now happy for
any business they can get.

Fire extinguisher / equipment companies, welding supply houses are just a couple to look for on Google.

Remove it yourself, most hydro places will charge you (I've seen $15-$20) for them to do it.

If you are sending it to a place that specializes in paintball tanks like Ninja (http://www.ninjapaintball.com/product.asp_Q_catID_E_99_A_subCatID_E_88), you can take it off or leave it on. Ninja takes very good care of their customers and their customers' equipment. I guess the deciding factor would be whether you are shipping it ground or air. If you ship it ground, you can leave the reg on. If you are shipping it air, you'll need to take it off.

Try madison recharging Service. Nice since they are near me (still far enough I have to ship though) and they are dirt cheap.

$11 for a 3k tank and $12.25 for a 4.5k tank, plus shipping back to you (obviously). You can have the reg on or off, they will take if off and put it back on for free. I have sent almost 20 tanks there, and never have had a problem.

How many of these tanks that people sent were flatlines?

The reason I ask is that I've seen the contraption that the techs actually BUILD in order to service these regs and take them off the bottle.

I have a flatline that needs hydro, but am a little skittish about sending it in with the reg attached.

I had my flatline hydroed by hydrotesters.com with no issues, they removed the reg.

I dunno about cheap. By the time you pay shipping there and back you are just shy of $40 bucks. If you don't remove your own reg its even more.

I googled local dive shops and found one to do it for $20 and it only takes a couple of days from drop off to pick up.

OP - If you have to mail it, mail it, but I'd make sure you can't find somewhere local first.

thanks all for the input. would a place that fills propane tanks be a good place to look into seeing if they hydro test?

See Tunaman he has the torque tool to remove it.

I dunno about cheap.

They did 5 tanks for me for less than 100 bucks. I was happy.

They did a tank for me too. They removed the reg also. It was close to $40.00 with the shipping and what-not. Shipped it on Wed afternoon and had it back the next Friday. No problems.
The UPS store did raise a little stink about the bottle being empty, the young cashier girl couldn't tell. She needed to get the boss so I could show him that the output was wide open, and that the guage read zero. (So much for the powers of reasoning)

I know, he did the last one for me. Picked it up at Tunaball this year. But I don't know the next time I'll see him.
