What tank size do you all recommend?

How many shots can an X valve get from a 90 CI 4500 PSI tank? I'm looking to order a tank soon. The 68 is 10 1/2 inches long and the 90 is 12 1/2 inches long. I'm leaning towards the 90 but not sure about size and weight. That is if it is a good idea over the 68.

I don't have a problem with my 68/45s but I prefer a 88/45 for a long day of play.

Prolly also depends on if u have easy access to air, if you dont, get the larger tank.

I have a 88/45, but my local fields and shops only fill to 3k if I'm lucky, If they did Full 4.5k fills I could get by with a 68.

At LL3 with 4.5k fills I was getting easy 6-7 pods + hopper our of my 88.

The final battle I only did a 3k fill cause the line was so long at the 4.5k fill stations and I was around 800psi after shooting 5 pods and a hopper.

the Weight difference will be minimal.

A ruff calculation for shots

15 * ci for 4.5k
10 * ci for 3k

so a 90 4.5 can get around 1350 shots
and a 68 4.5 around 1020 shots.

Your only looking at about 2pod difference between the 2 tanks.

If you get the 90 and its too long get a CP razor drop and it will fit like a 68. IMO

A less than efficient mag will use about 200 in-lb of air each shot. Some much less (Mine uses about 175). Some will use more air.

Based on 200 in-lb of air usage:

68ci - 4500psi tank - 1250 shots
68ci - 3000psi tank - 750 shots

90ci - 4500psi tank - 1665 shots
90ci - 3000psi tank - 990 shots

If you use one that has small ports and a long control section that is unported, you get better efficiency. The unported section should be about 10 or 11" long. Good quality paint allows you to properly size the barrel to the paint for best efficiency by reducing friction and blow-by. Operate the mag at 280fps instead of 295fps. You'll save a lot of air there. Don't dry fire a lot. It uses a lot more air to dry fire.

I can get a case and then some off a 68/45 with an old half-port Freak and a well matched insert (not too loose, not to tight). Granted dry firing like an idiot to show off the R/T effect or prove that my mechanical marker doesn't just look good but shoots well too means I get two fills per day when only shooting a case.

That ideal setup makes you sound like a ninja, too... I've had renters ask if my marker is "sileneced"

with a solid 1-2 undebore at LL3 i was shooting my Emag pulling 6 pods plus a prophecy and still having 1500ish left on a 68/45 filled to about 4k. thats almost an 1100, and i probably had a pod left or so. full fills would easily be a 1400.

And I thought mine was pretty good for a mag.

I'm not sure how I do it... It's only with one X-Valved Micromag that I can get that kind of efficiency; all of my other mags get about 1600 shots or less, with very similar setups and the same tank. Xmag got about 1400, other Micros anywhere from 1200-1600. Again, as you stated, goofing around and dry firing can drain a tank more than you think.

Always have and always will run a 68/4500 on my RT Pro.

I get a good 6 pods and hopper off of one fill with ease.

I never run with more than 4 pods, though, and I have quick and easy access to fills.


To me, anything bigger is just more weight and bulk. I like my 68's size and with paint my 'Mag weighs a good 12 pounds...

I've only had 4 pods when i play and i still have about 2k in the tank.
68 CI Ninja Tank.
Maybe a little less more like 1,700
If i fire about another 200 or so my gun will not shoot on a 1k fill.

Update:
Just looked at my tank and she's at 1,200 and my X-valve won't even shoot that so.
Every Valve is diffrent though.
I'm running an E-mag but even in Mech it won't shoot.
And i have it turned down to 275-280

I just meant that the 1200psi reading that the tank gauge is showing you is probably not what is really in the tank. The pressure coil has a tendency to not settle back to a zero value when the tank is at zero. The low end pressure readings of these gauges are very inaccurate because of this. The lower pressure reading could be off by several hundred psi. The only real way to properly tell what the shut off value of your valve is, would be to put a lower range gauge on your ASA, or a lower range gauge on your tank and only fill to the gauge limit and not the tank limit.

I haven't seen bigger than the 90ci-ish specifically branded for paintball recently... In fact, I haven't seen a 100ci+ paintball-specific tank with a born-on date later than 2000.

That said, there are definitely bottles out there in that size range, just not specifically for paintball. You'd have to find just the bottle and add a regulator.
