On the contrary, we have plenty of widow spiders in Florida. They like to hide in holes and old wood piles and such. ;)

They like to hide outside under things that havent been moved in a while like old piles of wood or fence posts. And sheds and barns with not much traffic. In holes around things like water pump sheds. Mostly in very rural settings, not too much in urban areas.
Just like the scorpions, they like wood piles too.
I got stung by a scorpion about 30 years ago on the little toe.
Felt like some one was putting a lit cigarette out on me.
You wouldnt think those little bitty things would do that but they pack a punch for as small as they are.

I had the coolest otter encounter this afternoon! I was driving home for lunch and I noticed some activity by a spillway I passed. So I quick whipped a U-turn, threw it into park, grabbed my camera and made way to the canal bank. When they first noticed me they were a little wary. But after about 2 minutes of my coaxing they came right up! Im quite certain they would have taken fish from my hand. There was one adult and two "teenagers".
