View Full Version : Why is my automag so heavy?!

Like seriously, you have to be the hulk to wield it around all day. No normal person would dream of using this at the field. What more can I do to make her lighter? I've tried everything!

acidcustom, your triggers are amazing. Words can't even describe how smooth, incredibly comfy, and easy to walk they are. I would recommend them to anyone looking for carbon fiber triggers. However, they just couldn't save this pneumag from being an overweight whore.

warpedmephisto, wow your machine and carbon fiber body work skills can't be matched. The cf body sleeve looks incredible and the body cuts are silky smooth and even, but even the tummy tuck couldn't hide this ugly duckling's true weight.

*Sigh* I suppose it's true when people say automags are some of the heaviest guns on the market. I was so naive to think I could prove them wrong. :(

If its too heavy I could lighten my wallet and your arms by taking it off your hands. But I wouldnt want your wallet to get that heavy.

Well just man up and shoot it. The more paint you put on target the lighter it will get!

Have you thought about running remote?

Maybe using 10-rd tubes or a pocket hopper to load paint?

Or possibly going to a ULE AM/MM length rail, instead of that mile-long one you've got?

Get nylon screws. That should help to cut it down also.

Maybe cut your macroline down also. Jeez, you've got like a foot of it on there. You probably only need about 10" (THATS WHAT SHE SAID).

I like the centered LPR setup.

Actually, if you get rid of the pneu-system, you can not only get rid of the components weight, but you'll also reduce the weight of the extra paint that you'll have to carry.

Lol, shame on me.

Agreed. I have a regular AM length ULE mag already and maybe that's what I should have done this too in the first place. However, that hardly sees as much action as this baby.

Why, are you trying to build your arm muscles carrying this beast around or something?

Mags are not heavy. This is a myth. With all the available ultra light parts and the compact nature of the design, you probably have more weight somewhere else. I'm not a muscle man at all, and the mags that I tote aren't light either, but you can set up a mag to be very light if you WANT it to. It all depends on your setup.

have you had the intelli ule'd that could take off more. also you could have the body cut to match a am/mm rail and have that ule'd.

looks good though

Yea, the sarcasm backfired because I can't tell if people are being serious with their advice anymore lol. But if I were to continue dumping money into this, I'd have the frame ULE milled and pay someone a ridiculous load of money for a cheater pneu setup. Already have an AM/MM length ULE mag and I prefer the longer RT length setup.

Wow the frame isnt ule milled thats crazy on the weight, I would get that done though since thats your target with the marker to make her lighter.I think a pneu would add weight though ,IDK. Either or really nice marker.

Yeah, but these are so much heavier than the AM/MM length Mags.

I know that extra inch or so wears out my arms.

Yes its an x valve but i will be reducing the weight of it soon to. This is put a tank and hopper on and go play ready.

I love the composite look of your marker. Really nice job

PS. it has the same body as yours but you can not see it in the pic

And that's with a 14" barrel as well...

Hills goal is much higher than mine... I'm still shooting for 1lb or less... :D

We'll see.

if you got rid of the pnue, milled the frame and used an asa. that would help alot.

I like the position of the pneumatics. I tried doing the same thing when I built one about two years back now, but my dye asa would not allow the clearance. I might have to give it another go these days.

oo sorry thought you had an on/off on there. you could get an asa that doesnt use a rail.

Really? Too heavy? I've used the X-Mag in all day Tournys as well as Scenario games. It is fine. You want heavy try an old wood stocked Sheridan pump rifle or a VM-68. Mags aren't that heavy.

Cyberious, he was being sarcastic the whole time. The post was a joke...

That's a BEAUTIFUL mag you have there chatua! I was thinking of doing the same thing several months ago but I decided that I didn't need another mag project then. I'm seriously tempted by your pictures to start it though, lol.

Mags aren't that heavy.

You serious? Did you see all that extra weight that he's lugging around on that thing? He may as well have added a couple lead weights what with the way he's got it set up.

Heck, he probalby doesn't even notice the difference when he's got a full hopper on there.

pump some iron. work out your arms. go with a lighter hopper. use a gun sling. lighten your HP tank ( ninja )... :)

Nice job on getting the weight down...

It inspired me to weigh my E-Micro I just built... 3 lbs 5 oz. A Mini is what, like 2 lbs? I guess it is over half again as heavy, but we are still talking only 1 1/4 lbs. Is that really that big of a deal? Never shot anything lighter so just wondering. I've heard people commenting that a marker that is too light is not stable enough.

I am working on that it is tough to keep if frozen long enough to use it the refrigeration equiptment alone negates th lightness of it.

KillerOfGiants
03-04-2011, 09:44 PM
Are there lighter regs tan the one used on the xvalve? You could have a back cap milled for the valve, mount a reg, mil down the back of the rail to the grip frame and mil down the front of the rail back to the vertical ASA for the reg.

Maybe a custom carbon fiber rail?

chatua

pump some iron. work out your arms.

Yeaaaaaa. I'm gonna work out so hard that I'm gonna be able to throw a paintball at 300fps. Then I can just ditch the silly gun setup all together and just throw paint from a pod. Never will have to complain about a heavy gun ever again.

Maybe a custom carbon fiber rail?

Can one mill a CF block like an aluminum block? If so, it's doable. AM/MM rails don't have a single thread on them.

But, that having been said, I will say that my G3 is still the best marker I have ever owned (Automags and Angels coming in second).

I was all prepared to say "WTF, how can you compare a chinsey g3 to a mag or an angel?"

Then I realized that you CANT compare them. The g3 wins all day.
