I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around how level 10 shims work, I understand what they do but how do they physically do it? Do they somehow push the carrier and o ring further down the powertube? I thought I read that there was a spring in the air chamber that would compress when shims were added. Is that accurate? Thanks

The shims do position the carrier and oring farther down the powertube. They have thickness. Therefore, with the shims in place, the carrier can only come forward until it makes contact with them and the distance from the front of the powertube to the front of carrier is longer than without.

There is no spring in the chamber. The air pressure pushes the carrier assembly forward until it rests against the shims.

Well, that makes perfect sense, thanks
