How many BPS can one expect before shootdown occurs when using a classic valve with HPA (approx. 1100 PSI)? I have seen classic valve EgoMags and thought it seemed like a waste. I recently bought an Etek Ego frame with the idea of building an EgoMag. I was wondering if my Minimag valve would be up for the task or should I spend the money to buy an RT style valve.

13 BPS is max average.

There is a hyperframed classic valved mag on youtube shooting 20 bps without any problems. The was no noticable shoot down.

And the guy was shooting at a distance of 40 feet from the target. You're not going to see shoot down at that range.

I guess the follow up question would be, is there anything that can be done to avoid shootdown? Input pressure etc.?

On a AM/MM valve, no. People have gotten up to 15 bps with no shoot down but 13 is pretty much the average number. Shoot for 13 and you can't go wrong.

With an electronic frame and a classic valve using a level 7 bolt, you can get 16bps without shootdown. Using a level 10 bolt, I don't know. I suspect it is less bps because the recharge time between shots is reduced.

I guess the follow up question would be, is there anything that can be done to avoid shootdown? Input pressure etc.?High input pressure helps overcome the losses due to the regulator. However, most of the shootdown comes from the restriction at the on-off pin. In the classic valve, the pressure at the pin is regulated by the valve regulator, so it never sees the input pressure. Therefore, increasing it won't help.

My lvl 10 hyperframe classic struggles to get 14-15 bps in any of the modes so i suspect you are correct athomas.

Sounds like the classic valve would work well for my play style, I really cant see the need to shot more than 12 bps in a woodsball game. Even if I needed to, I can't see spending the extra money for a few extra bps. Thanks

I was there when the video was filmed (I filmed it). That was my old hyperframe on my brothers mini. It did not have noricable shootdown at 20 bps fullauto. The video may not prove it, but I know it to be true. But even Tom questioned the results. ;)

Should have sent the valve to Tom so he could look at what they f'ed up during the machining process and make the rest of the valves the same way :p

Or you could have PTP make a run of classic valves, I'm sure you'd get a pile of irregulars to test :-P

Since no on can shoot in semi fast enough to make any difference...

If you watch those videos you can see the barrel rise as it is firing. Not too much shootdown.
