Now that the dates are set let's get moving.

First order of business, where to stay. I will need input from the local guys and people who have attended before.

Recommendations?

There are two major highways running through the area. IIRC, it's the ones near 55 that are nicer. The ones near 80 tended to be sketchier. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

anything on riverboat drive is good. the area with the Holiday Inn and Red Roof are not bad during the day, but if you like to see hookers and drug deals go down in the evening then that is the spot for you.
Heros restaruant is near the riverboat drive hotel. Fairfield / Hampton / anything over there is fine.

I have stayed at both the Hampton Inn I-55 and the Motel 6 I-55. They are right next to each other and right next to a mall with a Tilted Kilts. They're also both what you would expect from their brand. The Hampton Inn costs more, but includes a pool and hot tub and breakfast with waffles. The Motel 6 is a Motel 6, but it is priced like a Motel 6. I know there is also a Holiday Inn Express in that area and I think there are a couple others. I haven't stayed at any of them, though. This area is about a 30 minute drive to/from CPX. I will probably be staying at the HIExpress this year, as I have run out of points for the Hampton Inn and still have plenty of Priority Club points. :D

This HIExpress is right near the Hampton Inn I-55.

camping on the hard ground after a certain age is a deal breaker. even hotel beds make getting up in the morning, or hitting the shower then bed make life so much better.

plus, if you sweettalk the hotel staff, you can get some free towels that can't be put in the rooms, to wipe down after a day's play and splatter.

has there been any consensus on a hotel? now that registration has started we need to decide if we all want to invade 1 hotel and if so get our reservatioins. maybe if we book enough rooms we can get a discount.

Hampton on I-80 is a great hotel. Is part of the promotion CPX / Viper just announced. Close walk to Heros West sports bar. Based on attendance last year I suggest book soon before it fills up, and it will fill up.

I'm trying to get her to play. I keep telling her Nancy's going to play. Not sure if that's a help or a hindrance.

She doesn't really like that it still kinda stings when you play. And First-Strike rounds won't help that perception.

Nancy is stealing the dye dam so she can shoot first strike rounds. Then switching to the cyborg because its light.

They still have King bed rooms at the I-80, but I got one of the last 2 Queen bed rooms. Depending how much you pay - you can get the rooms for about $10-20.00 cheaper a night if you pay now with no ability to cancel, or you can pay a little extra and cancel up to 6pm the day of your arrival. at which point they don't charge you until you arrive.

Check out the LL7 Lodging page (http://livinglegendsofpaintball.com/ll7/lodging-2/). There's an "Off Site Camping" tab. I've never been to any of them. So, I can't really give you any recommendations. But, at least you can see where they are in relation to CPX.

Any help would be appreciated

Booked a few rooms at the Hampton I-80, and I started a thread for those camping so we can get a roped off a section of dirt for AO, BEO, and others associated to be able to camp near each other and hopefully have a good location to get into the filed of play.

Please add to that thread if you are planning on camping so we can hopefully cordon off enough space.

Camping is free. There will probably be plenty of room in at least one of the camping areas. If you know how many tents you plan on bringing, Zac and I will save room for you in the AO Army area. I think we have that in a different post, though.

So is EVERYONE at the Hampton Inn on I-80 then? 'Cuz they're booked up.

There's some rooms at the Hampton Inn on I-55 still available, and also at the Wingate. I'm leaning toward the Wingate because it's closer to CPX, has good reviews, and I have a corporate discount code making it cheaper than the Hampton. (The promo codes on the LL7 website aren't working for booking at Hampton online).

I wouldn't worry too much about where you're staying. I use the hotel for sleeping, showering, and breakfast. I don't do much socializing there, except occasionally during breakfast.

(The promo codes on the LL7 website aren't working for booking at Hampton online).
It actually shows up in the corporate account code. I thought it wasn't working at first, too.

Justus
01-27-2014, 04:36 PM
Okay, I got it to work on the corporate code field, not the promo code. Still, it's $114 for a double queen and the Hampton on I-55 is 30 minutes from the field. The Wingate is 20 minutes and is still only $111 (negligible price difference, but cutting that extra 10 minutes off the drive would be nice).

I'm with you - when I went to D-Day in 2012, we camped. Some in our group had hotel rooms, but they were only used for hot showers and sleeping on a bed. All other times everyone was at our camp anyway, shooting the breeze. I figure that's what LL7 will be like to a lesser extent.
