the line between x rays and gamma rays is blurry at best, x rays are emitted from electrons and gammas are emitted from atomic nuclei (typically)
but the principle of propigation is the same.
i grew up so close to NASA that i had a great interest in physics and chemistry at a young age
also this info is about 30 yrs old, principle is the same though
it is sad that three mile island happened and scared the world away from this "green" enery, a whole lot of fear about nothing really, TMI was so insignificant as far as negative health affects
