I've never used it... My friend bought a big tub and I am wondering if this works for the x-valve spring packs or should I go with silicon lubes?

Thanks!

Yeah, you want to keep the spring pack from drying out and rusting. Plus lubricant helps things move more freely. Grease doesn't dry out as quickly, which is why it is recommended over light oil that is used in regular mag maintenance. As Tunaman mentioned, it really doesn't matter what grease is used.

Most branded grease is just Dow33 or Dow55 with a coloring agent (and sometimes scent) added to it.

I can confirm that it does work very well. Lasts forever too. I've been working on the same container for about 6 years.

What problems may arise if your spring pack is too dry?

It'll rust. Rust can cause the metal springs to stick together.
