So I was in the Tower of London on vacation when my buddy pointed out this freaky little thing. I looked at it and thought to myself that Mr Kay HAS to see this!
"Steam gun
English, about 1849
By Angier March Perkins
The repeating steam-operated gun was invented by Jacob Perkins of Newport, Massachusetts and developed in England in 1824, at which time Perkins took out a patent.
The bullets were originally fed from a vertical tube rather than the hopper shown here, which is a modern replacement. A wooden handle operates a reciprocating rod that opens a valve to allow a bullet to drop into the breech and a burst of steam to be injected behind it. The rectangular block has a threaded opening for a steam inlet. This improved version was built by Jacob's son, Angier March Perkins."
