What's up with that? Can anyone do it, or does it just destroy the parts? "Death of an E-Mag" etc.

It can be done...but has a high failure rate based on the info I had heard. Something like only 1 out of 5 pieces survive the process.

I don't believe it destroys the parts, so to speak. It is a very involved process and prep is of the utmost importance. It also doesn't hold up very well and will prep and flake.

You might look up oil slick anno for the look.

Here is one thread on what goes on with the process and some of the problems involved.

Unless you understand all the tolerances needed to be kept to have a gun work and can explain and make them understand this is NOT a finish you want to get into.

Xmag. After reading and talking to Bunny there are just to many tolerances that need to be kept to do it. The breech area alone would a issue. Each wall of the body would be coated adding thickness, then each end of the breech would be coated adding thickness. The likelihood of them fitting becomes slim. Not to even mention if they coated the area the valve slides in which is already tight on some bodies. Are there companies that can do it correctly. Im sure there are. But finding them will be the difficult part.

But if your sending say a Tippman model 98. You should be all set.Since the tolerances there are like a pornstar after a gangbang.

i guess you could do grip panels.

.... :ninja: .....

Paintball guns should be anodized, not plated, coated, etc. :)

Btw, when I did it in 2013, it cost $100 per part.

Basically took a huge dump on it then tried to work it.

So, if you can not easily replace the part, forget about trying to get this unicorn of a plating. Its not worth the hassle, the trouble, the cost or the headache of this process.

aurora plating will always be that lingering option i want done for a project.....
then i look back on bunny's xmag and it goes from "yeah! the whole thing aurora plated" to "yeah! aurora plating for parts that can be easily obtainable again" to "how much does Caustic charge again?"

But every now and then you are lucky enough to get one that turns out just right.

This is all right for a wall hanger, or a speedball gun, but you might as well wear an orange vest playing woodsball you're going to stick out so bad with such a shiny marker....

It's definitely a speedball gun as I have others more suited for woods ball. A Luxe and the forest usually don't mix well by design. But honestly lately mostly all of my guns are wall hangers as I only make it home 4 days a month.

So are the tolerances destroyed on this part? Or does it still work? Looks like it's been in a space battle.

If you had to suggest one company to try again, which would it be? Technology may have improved in the last few years? I want to try it.

What company did this one?

SSR did this one around the same time Bunny had his there. Pooty Paintball had sent several Luxes there to have done. I do know that not all parts came back from the process. I believe out of two guns he had enough to do one complete gun with all pieces plated. So he chose to mix and match parts and divide the pieces between two guns. This is the more complete of the two with about 75% plated. I do know that Chris said he will never do this process again for himself or offer it as a service due to the lengthy time frame involved and the loss of parts. I dont know of anyone else that offers the service.

Yep, QFT.... If you really want to go on a hunt, try to find the guy that did the Oddpb aurora plating run. I believe Cutstep was his pbnation name....

While comparing the shockwave Aurora vs the Karta Aurora, you can really see the amount of plating that was put on the shockwave parts.
