Has there been an attempt to shorten the feed cup on a stove pipe body, and still use the original cup piece?

Yes it's been done many times over the years.

Make sure you find the right person to do it. I’ve had 3 stainless bodies ruined by two different outfits over the last year.

Ruined in what way? Pictures?

One guy welded elbows on two bodies that ended up warped. Another sent back my project warped/cracked after they botched a silver brazing attempt. I’ll post pics when I can.

I'm also curious what it looks like down inside the body where the feedtube was attached.

Can’t find the actual piece right now. I know I didn’t throw it out but here’s the only pic I received after the mod shop admitted defeat before sending it back.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171103/4af841cea6d4231990db9fe95ddbe400.jpg

Mod shop, was it a paintball or welding shop?

Sadly, paintball... a trusted name at that.

After seeing this, there's no need to take pictures of the inside. I'm not sure why they thought brazing was a good idea, it's really the worst choice.

Silver solder, TIG or even MIG is better than brazing, even done properly brazing would look bad.

This is the very first body I modified in 2000 when the Warp Feed was first released. I made the feed and actually welded it to the body with a MIG welder setup for steel (not stainless) It's fully welded and it's never rusted, this is how it looks 17 years later>>

If you're going to weld these you really need a proper fixture. You also need finishing tools to cleanup the inside of the body. These bodies WANT to warp so you have to go sparingly with the heat and properly fixture them because they want to fold like a banana, the longer the body the worse the folding effect. RT's are the worst, then the Minimag and the Automag is the easiest to deal with.
