View Full Version : Walking Stick's Menagerie of 'Mags

Walking Stick

How yins doin'! So it all started around 2002 with the Ultra Nickel Micromag 2000 and then the Crazy Black Splash Minimag in 2007. That's when the 'Mag addiction took hold and the rest is history - even surviving a paintball hiatus from 2012-17. Anyhoo, here's my planned collection of 50 'Mags plus 3 very special ones. It showcases the diversity of 'Mag components both past and present, illustrating the true modularity of the Airgun Designs platform.

https://i.imgur.com/67o9xf1l.jpg

A-B-C Triplet 'Mags
We start with a very special trio of TunaMags that belong to my two brothers and me - because we are triplets! These 3 builds all feature a Tunaman valve in a sculpted Deadlywind body on a vertical 90 degree frame with recurved trigger and other uncommon parts. Overall very similar but still unique! Even the colors align with our assigned color throughout childhood - green, blue and red.

(A.) Black Fin TunaMag
The rare Tuna rail and valve were fortuitous acquisitions back when I first started collecting extra 'Mag parts and later earmarked for my oldest brother's 'Mag build. The valve is certainly unique with its lasering - the "Tuna" is there but no "X" and the "TMX" serial number prefix I've never seen before. The TunaPack was the last piece picked up - thanks Bunny for letting it go! Finding a Karta body was a saga that went on for a year and a half despite being the most-produced DW body with over 150+ made. Tracing the history of this Karta, which had been drilled for eyes, it passed through at least TEN owners over its lifetime. With a clever ano pattern I don't think the tiny little holes will be a distraction or detractor.

(B.) Blue Fin TunaMag
After sitting on AO for several weeks back in 2010 I picked up this exquisite 'Mag from the first owner - an original Tunamart 'Mag (http://tunamart.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-24)! Too bad mech is making a comeback and re-popularizing the 'Mag market as I don't think I'll see a sweeter deal ever again. A bunch of RPG parts deck out the rare Dallara body which is in the even more limited "dimpled" form. This black & blue 'Mag now belongs to my middle brother for our Deadlywind Tuna trio.

(C.) Red Fin TunaMag
After a decade my Tuna'd VMF Chord project is finally done and ready for ano! Black is boring and uninspiring so to bring out the dimensions it's going to get a light base of glossy acid washed rose with dust red as an accent. The wavy Logic-spec trigger is unique with an unknown creator, even after I posted (https://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?274833-I-D-this-Wavy-Logic-Trigger) about this trigger.

#1-5 Retro 'Mags
These markers focus on that signature Automag RT and E-Mag look with the prominent sight rail and foregrip. Who cares how heavy they are when they look so good?

(01.) Tuxedo Automag RT Pro
The first 'Mag that really ever caught my attention was the 1996 Automag RT looking all dapper in the magazine ads - it was like a paintball marker in a tux with the clean and starkly contrasting satin black anodizing and polished steel. The factory image of the RT Pro was just as suave and that is what this build will replicate. It will also be my primary loaner to help the unknowning appreciate the Airgun Designs old school but still very relevant mech tech. Heck, its factory-touted 26 bps non-electro capability is still unmatched today!

(02.) Hologram Automag RT
AGD Europe's website had these Nickel w/ Color Splash kits when the Automag RT was released but none were seen on North American shores until one of Tom Kaye's infamous attic sales. Supposedly, the splash masters PK Selective did the work but it was determined to be too costly for any more batches. When I saw pictures of the "Euro" HiRise powerfeed RT body I knew this is what it belonged with, and I just love the raked-back sportscar look of it. The nickel Intelliframe and Triggernomics handmade sterling silver trigger fit right in with its flashiness.

(03.) Zee Smear Automag RT
The Automag RT (or RT Classic as most call it) is iconic in its satin black and polished steel, but when I saw my first Red Smear ano I knew it had to be mine (you'll see a theme of several black-red-silver splash 'Mags in my collection). The double-lasered Z-Grip was from the Sandman's personal stash at AGD! I actually bought a second Red Smear RT from Canada just to obtain the sweet MagHog Z trigger now on it, and then that RT was sacrilegiously traded for my first 'Cocker.

(04.) Spaze Oddity 'Mag
"Ground Control to Major Tom..." - time to cue David Bowie! The highlight piece of this build is the Spacemag-inspired Z-Grip foregrip which was featured on the MOTM "SpaZeMag" designed by AOer "Nickless Cage" in Germany and milled by a local shop circa September 2014.

(05.) The GooniE E-Mag
When the E-Mag was first introduced at the 2000 Zap IAO I was mesmerized by the colorful anodizing that really made them stand out in the AGD booth. The ano needs to stand out so, while I'm waxing nostalgic, a colorful '80s scheme seems on point - Marty McFly's hoverboard, Miami Vice, Koosh balls, Tron. Another iconic movie was The Goonies and many may think the source of this 'Mag a goon himself... as most of the parts on this build are actually from an E-Mag tester given to Billy Gardner of Smart Parts. Boo! Hiss! Boo! This includes the rare early E-Mag valve with an electrified "E" (later seen on the E-Max X valve), a factory-chopped powerfeed meant for attaching a WarpFeed from below, and a the frame. The rail is an uncommon ULE'd "E-Tac" rail made for some factory TacOne E-Mags, and the trigger a TL-63 blade E-Mag trigger with the Comb roller attachment which was created by AGD and Odyssey (you know, the fellas behind Halo loaders).

#6-10 Breecher 'Mags
Not like breaching doors and blowing stuff up as I did in the Army, but in regards to the unique feed ports that set these markers a step above the others. Tom Kaye really had something going with all the creativity and ingenuity coming out of his company.

(06.) Pneu X-Kitty X-Mag
I started a build thread (https://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?274802-New-Pneu-X-Kitty) on my revival of the X-Kitty X-Mag body that I bought from RogueFactor on PBLegion back in 2010 (who coincidentally also just sold me a blank Reverse X valve for the project!). I'm glad I went on a hiatus because my intention back then was to re-ano it black and gold for a yinzer 'Burgh scheme but I wised up and it's staying original now! It will be Warp left and with a reverse valve so the roof and passenger sides are slick and free of obstructions. This will also be a Pneumag project but I'd like to keep it a dual-mode hybrid marker - switchable as a mech/pneu rather than mech/electro. Time will tell what I can figure out and make work.

(07.) Maelstrom X-Mag
A dream 'Mag actually coming to fruition! I think the bulky Euro-X body and Stormwalk frame combo actually balance each other out quite nicely, but I'll have the driver side slotted like the passenger side so you're able to see the valve's "X-MAG" lasering. The massive amount of real estate for ano really needs something exotic or intricately detailed so perhaps a raging sea below with whirlpool and a crazy hued sky with thunder clouds and lightning above. Shout out to Bunny for the rare Warp Right breech!

(08.) Celtic X-Mag
So I need another X-Mag with that unique breech module to round it out at five. I really wanted one of those prototype Aztec X-Mags or a Deadlywind Ci (though it doesn't look much different than a C&C) but they were not for sale to the likes of me. However, a hacked up Euro X-Mag was! It was made by AGD-Europe and in the 2009 video tour of John Sosta's shop (by Manike / Simon Stevens who runs Inception Designs) you can see it hanging on the wall at the 0:37 mark: AGD Europe visit. Prototype gun history. https://youtu.be/2jl2fBwPw_U. On the body under the breech is an engraved pentagon with the letter F indicating an attempt was made to certify it for approval to use in a very restrictive Germany. The hard 90-degree cuts on the rear are rather unappealing so that'll have to change. To keep with the European theme and harken back to my heritage, I think I'll get it milled/engraved similar to the Aztec but with variations of the eight Celtic knots instead. The ano scheme will follow suit with a Rampant Red Lion and some Scottish tartan/plaid.

(09.) Supreme F'n Leader SFL E-Mag
I never really wanted an SFL because they're stupid expensive and looked kinda funky, but my impression changed upon seeing Bunny's former satin silver SFL with black sponge and red splash ano done by PK Selective - it looked phenomenal! When this dust pewter SFL is re-ano'd I'll copy that splash but change out that black sponge to royal blue instead since I'm a rather patriotic veteran. Since I don't shoot electros the amazing Logic UMF matches up nicely as does PTP's grooved Micromag battery pack cover. Many thanks to Bunny, Big Evil, Freedom and Zondo for making this happen!

(10.) Automooog Micromag
This is a controversial PTP gen6 Micromag 2k9 with the totally unique multi-position breech system. Controversial because of machining tolerances being off with some bodies not allowing them to achieve 300fps. I'm pairing this one with a Luke's Customs combo of LPR foregrip and T-Rex pneumatics within the MiniVert frame. I find the factory aesthetics of the 2k9 quite uninspiring but perhaps I can find someone to mill it... I don't usually like animal prints but for some reason I want something ano'd in a cow pattern and this seems the perfect candidate.

#11-15 Micromags
These unibodies from Forest Hatcher at Pro-Team Products span generations 2 through 5 with their fixed-breeches and removable barrels. Complete sets in an amazing original PK Selective anodizing pattern are hard to find so some will be re-anodized in similar, inspired ways.

(11.) Satin Tiger Micromag
This build includes several prized components such as the highly adjustable Medusa frame with spike trigger (the opening behind the trigger was just a safe, comfortable way to carry the marker), an old school Armson OEG sight up top (works like a Trijicon ACOG with one eye seeing the environment and the other super-imposing a red dot where the marker is aimed despite the feedneck in front of it), and a 1 of maybe 15 Micromag 2000 Limited Edition bodies with STO-threaded feedneck! I like the PTP Nights and colorful Tiger ano patterns but the Wild Satin Iguana green & black always stood out most to me, so I'll mimic that with a custom Satin Tiger ano of brushed black on orange. It makes me smile remembering all the tigers throughout my childhood - Tony, stripe-ed Daniel, Shere Kahn, Raja, Hobbes...

(12.) Project Y2K-Ultra Micromag
The one that started it all! I borrowed an Ultra Nickel Micromag RT from a friend for a tournament in the early 2000s and loved everything about the marker. That's when the AGD addiction began. If it wasn't for that shiny bling catching my eye I may have joined my brothers shooting electros like Impys or Matrices! The build name for this Micromag 2000 comes from the millenium's Y2K Bug fears and the CIA's crazy Project MK-Ultra experiments.

(13.) Jungle Equinox Micromag
I've always wanted one of the beautiful PK Selective ano'd Jungle-series Micromags but know that's rather unrealistic. What's more likely is to have one custom ano'd to replicate it, perhaps doubling up by having one side in Jungle Sunset with Tropical Jungle on the other!

(14.) Stranger Danger Micromag
I made a deal for this Team Strange splashed gen3 Micromag and what's rather unique is that it has a standard feed port (1 of about 2 dozen ever made) instead of the more common powerfeed. The ano job was by PK Selective yet not for PTP but rather John Gross of Florida Paintball Center who outfitted the markers of Team Strange in this particular pattern.

(15.) Pyrite Treasure Micromag
For a Gen2 Micromag, I dreamed of a 1 of 6 Lightning or super rare left-side feed port marker but the few I ever found evaded my grasp. However, I did pick up this uncommon PK Selective anodized pattern called Gold Rush! The X valve is a "10 o'clock" blem that happened during a run after the first couple batches of X-Mags. AGD wanted to reduce the number of lasered logos (X-Valve, X-Mag, E-Max, RT Pro X) with a simplified X, but unfortunately they were not oriented correctly at the 9 o'clock position. And while AGD simplified the lasering with just an X, they later compensated for it by offering the 4 colored X valves!

#16-20 Oddball 'Mags
Some rather atypical design features are the hallmark of this group which really show the breadth of what's been developed for the Automag platform.

(16.) Bludgeoner Micromag
This first generation fixed-barrel Micromag complete the series from Pro Team Products. I'll probably only be able to find a standard satin grey type III hard coat anodized one...so perhaps I'll augment the color palette with some blood splatter? The handguard frame was a limited run by Fabrice of METEOR Paintball in France via Facebook.

(17.) Choco Taco Mag
I felt the Ripper design was great when it first came out on the Bob Long Intimidator and had to purchase this Xmagterror (XMT) body. The Ripper rail by AO's Sneaky Sir was a later acquisition which I think needs to be cut and filed some to make the pieces flow together better. A Hershey's chocolate brown ano should do the ripples justice. The regulator cap came from Deus Machina, a member on the MCarterBrown forum, who offered several cap styles (slotted, lateral hole, hex hole, hex exterior, 1/8" gauge port). It was primarily for those who wanted a shorter 'Mag, but I like it for how it rebalances the marker. Regardless, it still requires a secondary reg after the tank reg to operate safely.

(18.) Skunkworks Mag
My X-Y-Z 'Mag with the wildly experimental Galactic Systemz Z-Body! (The last 25 unsold Z-Bodies were re-labeled by NPS as the Vortex Automag.) It was created by Far East Dragons member Haruhiko "Yoshi" Yoshimura out of Japan around 1997 (the website GalacticZ was active from 2000-2003) and borrowed "hop-up" technology from airsoft. The Z-Body utilized an adjustable nubbin/skid plate on top of the body in front of the powerfeed to take advantage of the Magnus effect. The purpose was to change the trajectory by imparting backspin to a paintball - as later seen in the Tippmann Flatline system or BT Apex barrel. A large-bored barrel is needed to be effective and luckily I also nabbed the Z-Body-specific barrel from Lapco with the body. Under the Autococker detent Yoshi also included a "breech vent slot" like seen on some high-end Carter Autocockers in the mid-90s; the purpose was to allow any blowback to escape out rather than up the feed tube slowing the feed rate. The frame used is the the Z-Grip's less extreme successor - the Y-Grip! Last but not least is an X-Valve to complete this X-Y-Z 'Mag.

(19.) T-K Boundary 'Mag
There have been 5 extinction level events on Earth with an on-going 6th one in debate. In regards to paintball, I pinpoint the Tom-Kaye Boundary as a significant change in the diversity of markers - from 12g CO2 pumps to constant-air/HPA semi-autos. When I hear Tom Kaye's name I always see in my mind's eye the pic of him running while dual-wielding a pair of Sydarms so I think that's the appropriate marker for this build. To keep it sleek looking it'll feature a rare Nocturnal rail made by El Panda - if you haven't heard of or seen his Armada Prime UL 'Mag or legendary Armada X-Mag you owe it to yourself to look them up! To help up the firepower of its 8 rounds, I'm slapping an AutoResponse frame on it with its unique trigger geometry and linkages that will fire twice with one "pull" of the trigger - actually firing once on the pull and once on the release. Needless to say, this ingenuity was promptly banned.

When I originally found this reverse ReTro valve I decided to pair it with a Warp ULE body and Warpless feed. However, once I saw Keith's triple-seared Dually rail prototype, I knew I had to build a Nasty twin 'Mag! The Cerberus Knuckle Dusters make this heavyweight project even badder and the M86v2 matches up well with the aesthetics. The SPAR'd trigger means this 'Mag will fire FOUR times per ONE pull and release of the trigger. Fun! It certainly needs a crazy ano so I'm envisioning some sort of opposites/two-face scheme.

#21-25 Old School 'Mags
Here are some good ol' steel bodies with rather peculiar classic stainless valves...

(21.) Hyper Fox Automag
Whew, lots of info for this build! One of the many paintball firsts by Airgun Designs was the powerfeed which improved upon feedrate and reduced ball chops. There was always some blowback from the breech with standard/direct feeds that would bobble the ball stack sometimes even pushing rounds back into the hopper. The powerfeed alleviated this bobble by venting the blowback and the longer, perpendicular ball stack minimized any backward movement. As told by Swarm teammate Sandman (and current face of AGD), this slightly different powerfeed body was developed Dennis Ashley - who later started CenterFlag Paintball Products - during the powerfeed R&D phase at AGD when they were located above a welding shop in Wheeling, Illinois. Roughly 10 of these bodies were made - deemed the "Ugly" because it was, well, ugly looking - had two feed tube attached, and instead of a curved powerfeed plug it had flat plug with a bolt foamie glued to it. This foamie helped next ball 'bounce" back into the breech from the blowback it experienced; again, no bobble for
the perpendicular ball stack. The concept worked well but had two key detriments: it required more work to make (silver soldering 2 tubes instead of one) and Tom wasn't a fan of foamies (adhesives weren't permanent). This build features a valve from Fox River Games (now Fox Paintball and home to AGD in Illinois) which did the opposite of Smart Parts and reduced the chamber volume while increasing pressure to improve efficiency - at the cost of a harder trigger. The HyPerMag valve was meant to be paired with the electronic CenterFlag HyperFrame but unfortunately that marker never came to fruition. Here's my attempt at recreating it...though since I don't shoot electro the HyperFrame will be gutted and drilled for a trigger rod.

(22.) Oldblood Automag
DYE...David Youngblood Enterprises...Dave "Youngblood"...Dave DeHaan...an industry titan whose business started by selling barrels that were made by some old blood - Earon Carter of Carter Machine. You know, that feller making Nelson-based pumps one-by-one and of SoCal & Hawai'ian stock class fame; who named a marker, the Buzzard, after his pal who passed too soon in the parking lot of an event. That's having class. Old blood.

(23.) Smelter Minimag
I luckily nabbed an unmolested Diggers Center/Fire Minimag for this old school 'Mag build. The towering black stovepipe stack and contrasting red bar of a rail like molten metal made me think of the old local Pittsburgh steel mills inspiring the moniker. Now I just need to find some old Diggers Silencer or X-treme cleats (the first dedicated paintball shoes) to wear when I take this out!

(24.) Mayhem Automag
Before Europe's Millennium Series (sadly now defunct thanks to the NXL) were the Mayhem Masters Championships in the early '90s and dominated for years by the UK Predators. This Mayhem 'Mag will have a bit of European flair with a METEOR frame out of France (from Fabrice Halmone via Facebook), an AGD-Europe silver-soldered "Euro" powerfeed body, and a Pro-Mag valve from John & Jackie Sosta's Powerpulse Products. Regarding that valve...the first Automags only had one hole in the regulator which was not always aligned with the hole in the front half of the valve, so 7 more holes were drilled to improve the airflow path creating the first 8-hole mod. British Racing Green seems to be an appropriate color for this machine.

(25.) Primary Colors Automag
AGD used to offer a lot of fun colored accessories for the Automag and Minimag which brings to mind the Harlequin VW Golf and abstract paintings by Piet Mondrian - you know, the white ones with thin black lines and red-blue-yellow rectangles. So this build is going to emulate that by being mirror-like with a few bits of color.

#26-30 Hustler 'Mags
Here are my manually-operated, hard-working PumpMags from the main 4 sources over the years - AGD, Cerberus, Rainman over on MCB, and XM-15. The Cerberus kits were machined from aluminum with 5 types of pump arms - AGD-style, smooth cylinder, horizontal grooves, tactical with picatinny rails, and tactical with shroud over the barrel.

(26.) Simple Jack Automag
I'm not much of a stock class shooter because I find the 12g CO2 cartridge "powerlets" annoying, but small HPA bottles I'm cool with! This will be my most simplistic marker and fed with just 10-round tubes for a little rock-n-cock action.

(27.) Rental Pump Automag

It'll eventually get a nice Hawaiian waters aqua ano and be my open class marker using a tiny gravity hopper.

(28.) Tacticool 'Mag
I always wanted the unique TacOne body but absolutely hate the MilSim/mag-fed/"sniper" side of paintball (probably because of being an actual combat vet and having experienced the real thing...). So to keep it non-tactical I'm going to go bright and fun with the ano - like Clown Tears by Pooty! When I picked up a Cerberus Tactical pump kit there was only one body it naturally paired with, and the squarish frame out there seems to be Luke's single-trigger Cool Hand Luke.

(29.) B.I.F. 'Mag
One of the coolest rocks I've ever seen was a B.I.F. - banded iron formation! These wavy, alternating layers of red and black sedimentaty rocks are just stunning. I saw FX Anodizing do something similar with forest green and gold on a 'Mag years ago (I think some call it a damascus effect after the highly prized layered steel patterns) so this will be a project going to Mario.

(30.) Awesome Opossum Automag
I hope to eventually find a splash kit from TASO - The Adventure Sports Outfitters, Home of the Paintball Packin' Possum! They were an early "copycat" parts manufacturer but at least they made some unique stuff too like their barrels (ProSeries, Eliminator, Winforce, Stone Cold). However, their splash bits are rather hard to come by and even more so in a complete matching set. It's quite unfortunate that no record of their anodizing patterns exist to verify authentic pieces. I'll toss it all onto an unassuming but rather uncommon left-side standard/direct feed body.

#31-35 Splashed 'Mags
My most-complete splash anodized kits from Smart Parts and Paintball Planet (as Eclipse was merely a product line back then). Can you imagine paintball at without these classic anodizing patterns!

(31.) Deciduous Minimag
Here's an early Eclipse 'Mag in a woodsy - yes, that is a word - Camo Splash pattern. It'll help me blend into the foliage so I can be a super special secret sniper in some shrubbery...ah no, it just looks cool. To keep with the aesthetics I found some nice wood grips, will handmake a double-trigger shoe out of ironwood, and have the body cerakoted in a woodgrain pattern.

(32.) Glacier Minimag
Aretes, cirques, and seracs, oh my! Paintball Planet in the UK really started something in the '90s with their Eclipse line of splash anodized markers and accessories. I especially like the colors within Speedy Blue splash as it reminds me of a polar icescape with a crevasse-slashed glacier (that's glah-sear not glay-sher!). The Euro-powerfeed Minimag body is a rare piece also made across the pond by Mick Holdaway of SAS (Simulated ActivitieS). He's the bloke who also made the Colonial 'Mag clones, by the way. Of note, the SAS welds were not as high a quality as the Euro-powerfeed RT bodies from AGD-Europe/John Sosta.

(33.) Black Magic Minimag
Ah, Smart Parts - such a love-hate relationship. They're a local business to me in PA that supports a hobby I enjoy, brought splash colors & Renegade camo, the AA & Freak barrels, et cetera. Then on the otherhand, there's their patent shenanigans which shuttered up a lot of innovative companies within this niche sport. Crazy Black Splash - my favorite splash pattern since the old Smart Parts print catalog days! I happily scored this kit back in 2007 for my second 'Mag, and only a sidecar squeegee holder keeps it from being 100% complete. What valve could be better, for this claasic Smart Parts build, than the infamous Magic Box! (Which was merely a cover for a simple U-shaped tube.)

(34.) American Fiber Minimag
'Murica baby! Or at least a strangely-hued Maroon, Baby Blue & Silver version of it. This was truly a piecemeal build as it took four different purchases to acquire the RWB bits (which didn't include a sight rail and will be ano-matched along with the breech and feedneck). The body is a special one from KAM Designs featuring forged carbon fiber in a marble/camo pattern. The reverse valve is an uncommon SmartMag which was the successor to Smart Parts' Magic Box with internal modifications this time...

(35.) Syzygy 'Mag
An eclipse is a syzygy - the alignment of 3 celestial bodies like our Earth, Moon & Sun. Thus my Eclipse Fire splash kit, Helios (Greek god of the Sun) body and red parts seem like a fitting combination. The body was from Gearheadz Paintball, a husband and wife team out of Oregon, but not made by them. That was done locally by none other than the legendary Mike Casady - the creator and manufacturer of the CCI Phantom pump! The Helios was meant to be a cheap $85 aluminum body (with welded feedneck hiding under that black plastic cover) but ended up being more than an AGD ULE body after purchasing the required CCM-threaded feedneck and Autococker detents to go with it. The red ano'd double-lasered Z-Grip was a fortunate grab back in '09 from Hank and is the bee's knees. I'd love to put a gold plated Golden Gun Minimag valve in this build but the chance of that is equal to me walking on the moon. Maybe I can get my own valve plated or gilded with gold leaf though...

#36-40 Unionized 'Mags
The main parts for each build primarily comes from the same 'Mag-supporting source which kept interest in AGD alive rather than withering away into the ether.

(36.) Logic Blaster 'Mag
Logic Industries, by CoolHand/Ryan Shanks, was one of the first aftermarket vendors of hardparts for 'Mags during AGD's new millenium resurgence with the E-/X-Mag and Level 10 X valve. I'm going to ano match a XMT ULE RT body to the purple valve in order to highlight the inline tube-ness of 'Mags (it's going to be "totally tubular, dude!" as TMNT Raph would say!) which will contrast well against an anthracite grey on the rest of the curvy Logic bits.

(37.) Soviet RPG-7 'Mag
At last, pew-pew-pewter X to finally complete my colored X valve quartet! This build contains some of RogueFactor's earliest machined parts rather than his initial ULE milling services and more well-known later machined pieces. The 2-piece body was a prototype never offically released (you can read about it here (https://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?239539-A-new-RPG-body-to-come-soon)) and which I've named the "Recluse" to keep with the same naming convention as the Exile and Pariah bodies. The only RPG parts missing are the Gripper snatch grip and Retent detents! While RPG stood for Rogue Paintball Gear I also know of it as a military term for the USSR rocket-propelled grenade launcher...so an RPG-7 will be the inspiration for the ano.

(38.) Venereal Disease 'Mag
This is a VD 'Mag but not the infectious, red, medical type those goverment posters warned Soldiers about in WWII. This is Venomous Designs (aka Mongoose/Christian) who took a small chunk of my money - and much more from many other AOers - when he fled the country never delivering on several of his products. Then there's Garf of G-Force Technologies who didn't wrong me but hoodwinked many other AO victims. Most VD body designs were rather busy except for the Syclone (which unfortunately never even made it past a single prototype) and the EP (which stood for electro-pneumatic because there were a few special foregrips made by VD to house an LPR and electronics). I'm extremely thankful KAM Designs brought back the VD Evolution foregrips so I can finally have my V2 that I paid for over a decade ago!

(39.) Pretty Peacock 'Mag
I appreciate the involvement of Luke's Customs within this niche community that's been instrumental keeping 'Mag interest alive by consistently offering mods or releasing new aftermarket parts for the platform making it much easier for 'Mag newbs to crossover and customize one for themselves. (Was that a run-on sentence?) This build will highlight Luke's redesigned Z-Grip the Z2, and a striking Armada body/rail combo. (40.) Pangolin / Meringue Pie 'Mag
I typically dislike asymmetry but when I saw photos of Andy's prototype FireMag and NecroMag bodies the latter was quite appealing. However, I was greatly disappointed there wasn't a segmented Edge-style as well like there was for the Axe bodies. Luckily, Andy listened and gave it the green light! The offset plate style reminds me of dinosaurs (triceratops, stegosaurus, anklyosaurus...) so I'm veering towards either a Jurassic Park ano scheme or a still existent but endangered, cute, scaly animal - the pangolin! If I happen to acquire a Necro, the jagged little horns remind me of thorny stemmed roses but dark or bloody seem too predictable...how about a meringue pie? Sweet and delicious with those toasty, fluffy, little points on them.

#41-45 Fancy Pants 'Mags
Impressively milled aluminum bodies are showcased here.

(41.) Panthera 'Mag
Besides the later AO-influenced hexagons, what relates to Airgun Designs more than those twin lions?! I have an extended Sluggo v2 body that can't just sit in a tote forever, never being built or used. So I have an idea of a sculpted big cat - not a male lion because that mane complicates things but any other in the genus Panthera such as a lioness, leopard, jaguar or tiger - stretched out like it's stalking its prey and snarling viscously. Think along the lines of the sleek, leaping hood ornament found on classic Jags. Who, where, when, how...I don't know. But I'll figure it out in due time. On the bottom half is an aluminum masterpiece from Jay of Cerberus Innovations - the limited production Cripple-Z! (Many thanks to Jake B. for the assist in its acquisition.) The kitty will be ano'd a brass color with everything else a nice contrasting but subdued cobalt blue.

(42.) Goldilocks 'Mag
I loved this design the second I saw the raw prototype - when it was still a separate body and rail! I put down a deposit for one but unfortunately disappeared from paintball for 5 years right after. My loss and I truly regret not finishing the transaction. Luckily, I grabbed this gold ano'd one in from cougar20th who received it from XMT as payment for designing the Shockwave body. Since I don't shoot electros the E-Mag frame must go in lieu of a mech frame - like another exquisitely crafted Cerberus frame from Jay!

(43.) Hale-Bopper 'Mag
I've always had a bit of an astronomy nerd in me so the current slew of cosmic/galactic ano jobs really make me geek out - I too need to jump on that bandwagon! The build name comes from the memorable '95-96 Comet Hale-Bopp. Going on it will be the first 90-degree frame in paintball history - the Angel IR3 Spaceframe! I loved that frame ever since I first saw it at the '02 Zap IAO here in Pittsburgh - there's just something about that cutlass handguard. The build's going to need a high performing X valve to match its looks, but I need a reversed one to hide the unsightly Z-Lock pin milling.

(44.) Dark Waters 'Mag
The mysterious TVL body! Bunny was selling this one (also a purple splash TVL) and after acquiring it I reached out to the creator's son who popped up on Facebook in 2020 with photos of his dad's TVL. He sketched the concept and a friend in British Aerospace programmed and machined it. That was the V1 and when his buddies at the Thames Valley Leisure (TVL!) paintball store, they requested several to sell themselves. These versions were changed slightly with more coverage over the valve and are thus the TVL Automag V2. What is really interesting is that this early aluminum unibody design still takes Twist-Lock barrels and Automag foregrips! TVL assembled these from new AGD Automags or on hand aftermarket parts - such as the .45 Elite frames. These were manufactured by a Texas company, Pressure Points Inc., and imported/distibuted in Europe by John Sosta (of AGD Europe) through his UK company Powerpulse Products (more info at Bacci's site (https://paintballhistory.com/45-elite-expansion-chamber-grip-euro-frame-mags-cockers-vm68s/)). The name of the build is after the Celtic origin of the word Thames - "darkness" - which described the River Thames that runs across the southern UK.

(45.) Wisteria 'Mag
This funky build has all sorts of weird cuts and pointy parts - like an old gnarly tree. I really think it needs a light, satin ano to truly show it off so I'm feeling a shade of lavender - like a twisted wisteria vine. The rail is from Extreme Rage who sold it under their Omega Series line for only $40! (Yes, the same company that brought you the game timer grips with its angry boy logo, but also a field in Florida run by old school pro Todd Adamson and home to team Miami Rage.) The Omega rail has a unique length that is between AM/MM & RTP/EM lengths, and when it came out in 2002 it was the first lightweight (and stylish!) milled rail sold for the Automag platform. The RPG Splinter trigger was obnoxiously difficult to obtain, but the Intimidation Technology body proved even more challenging. Xtreme Depot Inc. was a paintball field/shop run by Matt Dailey near Scranton, PA until they went out of business in 2004. When AGD released the first ULE bodies in 2003 they also publicly released the exterior CAD files for the Standard and Extended Sluggo bodies for custom milling. Xtreme Depot and PBX (Paintballistix who's also known for Mike Quinn's MQ 'Cocker valve) were the first to take advantage of this opportunity. However, the I.T. was milled from a blank rather than AGD Slug so the first batch of bodies had feedneck issues and were missing the internal steel washer and clip. The latter would lead to the bolt and spring bashing the crap out of the softer aluminum breech until becoming nonfunctional. Luckily, mine is not from that early batch.

(46.) Rainbow Sherbet Mag
A slim and lightweight modern Minimag is the goal here. The clean aluminum (or aloo-mini-um as the Brits would say) will lend to a nice ano pattern...perhaps a colorful Rainbow Sherbet (or is it sorbet) swirl?
:shooting:
- XMT Minimag ULE body
- AKA feed tube
- custom fuchsia "X" valve
- Luke's Customs Ultra Light 8" rail
- RKM Designs poly Y-1 single-trigger frame
- RKM Designs poly single trigger
- RKM Designs Troll LPR foregrip w/ 3D-printed soft Bike-style grip
- a barrel

(47.) Sweet Tooth 'Mag
Don't know what all is going to be in this build but the ano will be one that I've always wanted...Orange Creamsicle fade!
:shooting:
- KAM-VD Helium body?
- a feedneck
- a rail
- custom orange X valve
- a frame
- a trigger
- some grips
- a foregrip
- a barrel

(48.) Star Spangled 'Mag
Here's a bunch of RogueFactor parts but probably more common and recognizable. I needed a goshdarn patriotic red, white and blue build so that's what this will be, and the ano will follow the graphical style of the classic ACI Graffiti Flag barrel.
:shooting:
- RPG Exile body
- RPG SubZero feedneck
- polished AGD X valve #VV
- RPG Wave rail
- RPG Triton frame
- AGD Yin trigger
- RPG smoked polymer Triton panels
- RPG 15° VASA + RPG gas-through foregrip (mid-length CP-style)
- ACI Zero Gravity Graffiti series Flag barrel, Freak-bored

(49.) Blue Devil 'Mag
I think XMT's one-piece carbon fiber body was really something unique so it'll go here with the streamlined group. A rail-less uniframe for the 'Mag has been teased over the years but sadly never any product. There were, however, some DIY jobbers based off Autococker hinge frames and they were super slick. Whatever happens, it'll be carbon fiber offset with my favorite color out of the Crayola crayon box - Cerulean Blue!
:shooting:
- XMT one-piece carbon fiber body
- a feedneck
- a valve
- a rail-less uniframe
- a trigger
- some grips
- a foregrip?
- a barrel

(50.) Hex-AO-gonal Mag
A tribute 'Mag tipping-my-cap to the legacy of AGD & AutomagsOnline and all they've done for this niche community in the niche sport of paintball. The custom engraved Gumshoe rail & grip panels come from AO's Luke, the foregrip from AO's RogueFactor, and the hexagon-perforated body from AO's xmagterror. They were/are vital to keeping the platform modern (stylish & lightweight) and revelant 30+ years after its introduction.

- XMT 4-Hex ULE body
- ? feedneck
- custom anodized & engraved X valve
- Luke's Customs Gumshoe rail custom engraved (AGD motto & AO hex logo)
- AGD X-Frame
- AGD Blade trigger gen1
- Luke's Customs AGD Circle aluminum 45 panels

Congratulations, you made it to the end! Props to you if you actually read through all the blurbs. Hopefully, you learned something and if you're after a certain part now I wish you luck in the arduous hunt ahead...

Great collection.

(4.) Zee Smear Mag
I saw pics of the Euro powerfeed and jumped on a body when one finally popped up. There were stock photos of that body in black Teflon but I never saw anyone with actual photos of one.

One of these?

The body, and rail set were bought new at the time Tom was getting ready to leave Agd. Its first assembly was in 2008. Hasn't changed yet. Other then adding blue grips. It has and always will be a pnuemag. Yes those are decals on the top of the body.

Very nice! So a Euro powerfeed RT body did come from the factory in black Teflon. What did AGD laser on the top of the body?

Updated my collection now that I decided to stretch it to 30 total (damn disease!) and have added a few pieces here and there.

[Kept changing the order/grouping of my 'Mags so the individual updates by number proved to be rather moot.]

I was a busy Magpie/Maggot this summer making some acquisitions and must say I am quite pleased with'em! The collection's probably 70% complete now.

- blue X valve
- pewter X valve (that's all 4, baby!)
- Micromag classic valve
- Euro X-mag body w/ Warp right breech & PMI Perfect Bore barrel
- Diggers Center/Fire Minimag
- RPG prototype 2-pc body
- El Panda Nocturnal rail (actually traded away my unused Tyson Machado sharkbite/spiked rail to obtain it)
- Cerberus Stormwalk frame
- .45 Elite Expansion Grip frame
- Benchmark Medusa frame
- RKD (knownothingmags) 3D-printed single-trigger Y-grip
- Luke's Z2-grip
- KAM M86v2 frame
- MagHog sterling Z-grip trigger & grip panels
- RPG SlingBlade trigger
- Deadlywind gen2 carbon fiber foregrip

I still have several parts to find (especially bodies but hopefully XMT's return can fix a couple of those) but I think I'll focus on getting some anodizing done to completely finish a few builds. Unicorns are still desired but I realize the probabilities are microscopic; they are:

- AGD Minimag Golden Gun
X Shocktech SFL Emag
- AGD constant air Sydarm
X Eclipse Euro powerfeed LEFT Minimag body
X AGD Sluggo extended body
X Xtreme Depot Inc. I.T. body
- Venomous Designs Syclone body
X Venomous Designs Helium rail
- PTP Micromag gen2 LEFT feed port unibody
- PTP Micromag gen1 fixed-barrel unibody
X PTP Micromag 2000 LE (threaded vert feed) unibody
X PTP eMag Micro2000 valve
- lightning bolt "E-Mag" valve
X reverse "X-Valve"
X reverse "X" valve
X "X-Mag" valve
- original X-Kitty valve "X-Mag" #XT00106
- John Sosta's PowerPulse "Pro-Mag" valve
- Oh Pawlak's Predator Marketing "Oh-Mag" stickered valve
- Ac!d Customs carbon fiber trigger
X Cerberus Cripple-Z frame

Thats a unicorn among unicorns

I hope you know that there was only ever one made. The prototype and trust me it will never be available.

Dream killer! Why am I not surprised VD didn't finish or follow through with something? Now if I find an Extended Sluggo though...

I can't remember, was it Luke or Nummech that was talking about making slugs again?
