View Full Version : What's the best way to cover up steel braided hose?

I like steel braided but it easily scratches up your marker. I was thinking about using black hockey stick tape, that stuff is durable and wouldn't scratch your marker. What do you guys think?

Hose wrap stuff works good. Can get from hydraulic/auto shops if they have it.

Shrink tubing is also good to use. Any electronics store will have a variety of sizes and lengths. Get a size that just barely lets the fittings to slide through.

3/8" or 1/2"

Anyone with experience with this stuff?

Yeah Kevmag I am thinking the same thing myself. I want to see it before I go looking for it..

I bought 3/8" but it won't fit over the nut in the front (behind the thread). Looks like 1/2" will fit.

Gotta go back to the store.:(

i got heat shrink tubing at the lokal hardware store. and you can heat it with a sodering gun to get it off by melting, or what i would advise for safty reasons is to cut it with a razer knife.

Well I got some heat shrink today, I am just trying to find the bag I got it with. It might not fit over the fittings. Would I be able to cut the tubing and then place it over the hose and then shrink it.

Yes you could. You could splice the end so they open up more. But common sense will tell you it will not shrink the same way ... at least not the ends that you split. They will be a bit loose. And yes you can remove it. Take a knife and slice it down the middle and you are set.

Ok cool that's good. Well I put it on, but I didn't know you were supposed to put it directly in the flame, so it got charred, lol. I had to wipe it over alot because it got all burnt up. It still worked though which is good.

You are not supposed to put it directly in the flame. I think you got that but your message confused me. If you don't want to buy a heat gun (they are very expensive), you can use other methods. Take a blow dryer and a empty soda can. Cut it in half so it makes a curved back plate. Then when you blowdry (on heat of course) the heatshrink, place the place behind it so it reflects heat back. The flame also works but you gotta move back and forth so it doesn't light up. If it does, it's not a big deal either.

Well luckily it didn't melt or burn. It just got kind of charry on the outside which I wiped away. Dammit why didn't I just read the package :).

The shrink tubing? Well I am too cheap to have a digital camera but I can try. Try a search and see if anything comes up because I don't have acess to digicam.

you CAN NOT cut the tubing then expect it to shrink right, take the fittings of, put the line into the tubing then the narrower end of the fittings should fitt into the tubing

I hate macroline, it's too wimpy for my liking. Well I got the problem solved I just used heat shrink tubing and it worked great. Looks awesome and works well!
