You should now be connected to the AO chat server. If you used MikeCouves' instructions before you should have the #automags channel in your channel list. If you see a channel list pop up just type in #automags and you're in. If no list pops up, type "/join #automags" without the quotes and you'll be in.

Cool! Thanks for the pics, I've rarely used irc and I know I'd be floating around in cyber chat land instead of being where I'm supposed to be. ;)

Maybe a Mod can make this a 'classic' thread?

You can disable your sig but click the Show Signature box under the area you type your message in.

I didn't think I needed to post my sig 6 times in a row.

I dont know if this has been mentioned earlier, but if you notice the check box that says 'New Server Window', you would check that to connect to a second or third server, that way you can be on the AO server and still frequent all your favorite DALnet channels.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this one but if I'm behind a corporate firewall I'm pretty much stuck, right?

No Hasty you aren't screwed. If you can get some access to the information of the firewall such as: Hostname, User ID, Password, and Port. Also you need the Protocol of the firewall such as Socks4, Socks5, or Proxy. And what you want to enable the firewall for, server or dcc. I will post a picture of it in a minute.

Okay for the firewall you're going to need some information about it. You should be able to that from your work, ISP, etc. Here's a pic of the firewall screen.

First go to this: (or File > Options)

http://www.automags.org/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=255931

Then you will see this, go to the bar on the side and choose "Firewall". This will come up. You need to find this information.

Here's some additional help for Firewall:

mIRC can connect to an IRC Server through a Socks4, Socks5, or Proxy firewall.

The main purpose of this option is to allow access to IRC through a firewall at work, or more rarely through a network set up at home. The majority of home users should keep this option turned off.

Hostname
The address of your firewall server, can be either a named address or an IP address.

User ID
Can be the account or user name on your system. For most people this will be the User ID portion of their email address (the text before the @ sign).

Password
The password required to access the firewall.

Note: if you are connecting via a proxy, and you enter a password, mIRC only supports http proxy 'basic' authorization.

Port
This is usually 1080 for Socks firewalls.

Initiate DCCs through firewall
mIRC uses a passive protocol to establish DCC connections when a client is behind a Socks5 firewall.

This will not work with older versions of mIRC or other IRC clients because no standard exists. You can find out more about the protocol here.

Note: Socks4 and Proxy are limited in functionality, and only allow IRC server connections.

Make sure you're typing irc.automags.org

You most likely have a typo.

Krazy Ivan

Here is the exact thing it says

*** Connecting to irc.automags.org (6667)
-
-irc.automags.org- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-irc.automags.org- *** Checking Ident
-
-irc.automags.org- *** Couldn't look up your hostname

If your a linux person here's how you join using Bitc*X, my favorite linux irc client. But since the command will be censored by AO, because the geniuses who made the programe chose to include a slang term for a female dog in the name, fill in the '*' with what is obvious.

In a command line type:
bitc*x -n nickname -c #automags irc.automags.org

1. File>Options>Display(its under 'category:')>Tray(subcatigory of 'display')>Check the box that says 'place mirc in tray when minimized'
2. Write /me infront of what you have to say, example "/me loves cookies". It will display "Fixion loves cookies" in purple, but using your nickname.

I guess this only works in version 6 and below.
I fixed the dirrections, I fogot to mention the option is in the "tray" subcatigory of "diaplay". I have version 6.0. If you tell me what version you have I can probably find it for you (if its there).
