I have the metal diverter plate in my warp.... It hasnt caused me any problems. What are the advantages of the plastic one?

when I had the aluminum plate dry paint would get caught up and sandwiched between the disc and the diverter plate. The plastic plate is wider preventing this from happening.

Like I said, It hasnt caused any problems, but maybe I should get one just in case.....

You probably don't need one. If you want it go for it, all it will do is help to insure against future problems. You could develop the problem later using a differant type of paint or something. Its your choice, you might have a problem, you might not.

If your warp didnt come with a plastic deverter plate, call AGD, they'll probably send you one for free, as all the warps now use the plastic deverter plate.
