I'm sure this is a stupid question to most of you, but I have the worst time with my mask steaming up. It's a JT with an anti-fog shield, but it still steams up. I'm sure it's just me, so I need to find a different mask that allows better cooling. any recomendations? I thought about adding some 9v fans to the top air vent for circulation, but haven't got around to doing it yet.

Get the X-wind fan, it's $50 but it is made for the mask. Fits perfect and can withstand direct hits.

thanks. I'll have to look around for it. I still might try the radio shack fan idea. This stuff costs too much already:D

Or even a replacement lense for a lot less.

jonno06- a tl1000s is a motorcycle. sorry,it's always in my signatures. I'm on a bunch of motorcycle lists too. If I didn't spend so much money on bikes, I'd have more to spend on paintball stuff. I think I need a raise :)

load sm5- that's what I'm asking about. Are there any "good" lenses out there that really don't fog up? otherwise, I need a different mask style that has better ventilation.

found an x-wind fan for 25 bucks. I think I'll go with that. sounds like the cheapest, most effective option. thanks all.

Does you mask currently have a thermal lense (double paned) or is it just a single paned lense with a anti-fog coating? I don't use a fan and live in Alabama in the stinky humidity and never have any problems.

looks like just a single lens.

Get a thermal lense, they run around $20 from most paintball stores and will solve your problems.

There's something about thermal lenses most people don't realize. Once the inner lense gets somewhat seperated from the outer lense, even just a small spot, it won't stop it from fogging. I learned this the hard way once. When i was first putting one in when i first got my JT's, i didn't put it in right. I didn't realize that it came off ever so slightly on the bottom right hand corner. The glue on thermal lenses isn't very strong so you just have to be careful with them.

well, I decided to say screw it and get a fan. I've never had much luck with fogless lenses, including ones for snowmobiling. They did exactly what you said. if you're not careful with them, they'll get separated, and then they don't work. I also like to be able to wear my glasses every once in while when my contacts get too dried out.

thebigragupb4l-i had a biger prob than that with my thermals, i got water inbetween my thermals on my x-fire mask, that sucked.
i would say get a thermal instead though because those fans i heard arn't realy that great unless you have glasses. you could also try getting a proteus from www.888paintball.com for 40 or 50 bucks with out the fan, and those are realy ventalated and small and comfy, that'd be a great move if you got the money.

JT Spectra
JT Flex-7 IZE
JT Proteus.
I've owned and used all. No fogging when I've used a thermal lense.......Thats about 2 and 1/2 years in 40* to 100* weather in every kind of humidity.

I am the king of fog!
Back in the day, when I had my ancient PMI X Ray, I could go from zero to fog in less then ten seconds of playing.
I tried everything: thermal inserts, baby shampoo, and even a home-made fan. Not much better. Finally, I wised up and bought a Flex 7.
Good? Yeah. Example: I was outside in 85 deg heat, massive humidity, working hard to build bunkers on our custom made paintball field. Three hours later, I had yet to see even a hint of fog! It is a beautiful creation.

If looking for a new mask, get a Vforce Shiled or morph, or get a JT Proteus.

I think the way thermal lenses work is that between the two lens panes there is nitrogen held in by the panes and the sealing foam, and once there is a signifigant scratch or leak in the foam, the nitrogen leaks out and the mask fogs.
I thinkk. :)

I would think they'd use a vacuum like the double-paned windows at your house. Or else they'd use moisture-filtered air (0% humidity). In either case, its not about whatever is inside getting out, its about moisture getting in. Once normal air gets in, then theres moisture in there that can condense on the lense.
Why the INNER lense itself doesn't fog still doesn't make any sense to me, why not just make the whole lense out of that stuff and then you don't have a problem, right? :)

It looks to me like its just foam on the edges inbetween the panes of a thermal lense. I think it just has a space of air inbetween to keep the temperature from being really different or something. But then again im probably completely wrong...as usual.;)

You can make a custom little fan setup for any mask. Much cheaper and much more effective than an x-wind fan.

Two "computer style" fans from radio shack mounted in the visor work well. That gives you one over each eye. That is what I use.
