With a 406 anything is possible. 11 sec 1/4's are not uncommon with such a big engine.

If you want to make sure ask him to demonstrate it.

I disagree... 406s could do it but I doubt you're that lucky :)

Bring it to the track with the guy, on you, and test his theory :)

i only know basic car stuff not really that much.. i know a 406 is a big engine but still a 11 sec 1/4 mile sounds a lil exgerating.. but ('ok my NEW car is a 67 camaro with a 406 engin (REALLYfast) and its blue w/ a black vinal top ALL ORIGINAL it has a roll cage and is seriously one of the fastest street cars in s'port') that is what the guy said and s'sport is short for shreveport which is where i live

350's can only be bored over .003, which makes it 355. Even if you stroke it it comes out to 383. Maybe a bored 400? That's what I think.

can a GM person tell me how to get a 360? is it a dodge block or is it a bored 350?

the reason being I had aguy in town that claims to get 900 horses outta a 360 with a a 500 shot of nitro and this great car he has, a 84 monte carlo, its what he uses for street racing. Is it possible to make 900hp on a 360? I don't think it's blown or otherwise and I'm almost sure he doesn't have what it takes to make a built block.

A 360 is a Mopar engine. You could get that displacement out of a 350, but why, it would be easier to just bore it out and stroke it out to a 383.

usually a 350 would be bored over .030 to make a 400 stroker. as for the 406 it is possible to bore larger but you would have to install all new pistin sleeves, and wouldn't last terribly long. i have seen taht year camaro with 454s that is more realistic for 11 sec car. although strnger things have happened. :D where do you live? high altitudes can effect the fuel/air mix to the point where the car can and will perform better than other places.

just thinking out loud.......:)

are you talking big or small block 350? A Pontiac 400 is a possibility.

About the 84' Sentra, I'm guess 20-25 seconds in the quarter.

350 bored .030 is a 355. You can't bore a 350 over to a 400. that's 50 cubic inches. And a 350 bored and stroked is a 383, that's pretty much the biggest a 350 block can go.

Never seen a big block 350. The smallest big block chevy made (pretty sure) is a 396.

400 is what I said in my other post. That seems more reasonable.

Couldn't it also be a bored 396? I'm not a GM nut so I don't know if slowmaros ( ;) ) were even offered with those in 67. It's simply not going to be an 11 second car unless the thing is pushing with some big slicks in the back, has forced induction, and/or nitrous. I'd be very skeptical about the times since there were only a handful or two of sub 13 second STOCK muscle cars, let alone in the 11's. If it IS an 11 second car, you can be sure that it has been beat to hell and back. In which case, I'd expect to be under the hood alot, if not fixing, at least maintaining things on a regular basis. Good luck, and don't baby it if you do get it.

I HAVE A 406! Oh wait.. it's no Chebbie motor. It's a .030 over Pontiac 400! It won't do 11's in the form its in. Low compression heads.
Ok I go now.

ok, it's a 396 BB bored over the 406. 396 was in fact an engine option in 67'. That's kinda sad considering the rarity of a 396 equipped 67', and he just had to bore it over.....

I'd say it's very, very possible. My friend owns a body shop and they're really big into muscle cars (lucky bastard) and I'll be the first to back them on their potential. I myself have a '70 Chevelle with a 506 (no, that's not a typo) on layaway and I'm sure it'll run low 9's easy without nitro.

Sure, it's possible, but not probable unless the description given of the car is way off. They all have potential. But 11's on a "stock" setup just doesn't happen very often at all.

Also no offense dude, but I'll believe your claim when I see a scan of your timeslip. Low 9's are some serious numbers for a N/A motor on such a heavy car. Not saying it's impossible, far from it. I'm just really skeptical on that.

Joker.

I hate to be the voice of reason and rain on your parade here but if you only kno w"basic car stuff" then you shouldn't even be thinking of getting anything that will even come close to 11sec timeslips.

This is not a flame but a friendly and serious warning. Most of my friends were in the motor club at school and we truly know our stuff.

By the end of the year we had built an 11 second car out of an 85 Buick Regal. This puppy had it all. Tubbed rear with 30 inch racing slicks, Hurst street Slapper, and the engine from one of gods chariots. My buddy was a real good racer but he still managed to gift wrap the baby into a railroad trestle at 95. He lived but the car was truly totaled and this was a guy who was racing for many years.

If you truly know "basic car stuff" please stay away from the bigger cars until such a time as you can fully understand them. That way, you will respect them more. And like women, if you respect them you tend to live longer.

a mechanic i used to work for had a bone stock 69 1/2(yes there is such a thing) roadrunner(mopar). it came with a 440 six pack. it was built to run from the factory. it would do 12's out of the box. this is a realistic expectation from a stock performance auto. i am also old enough where most of the cars you guys mention were everywhere when i was a kid. its a shame their gone, and whats the difference now anyway, obviously gas consumption is no longer an issue since everyone is driving behemoth SUV's now. BRING BACK THE MUSCLECAR!
about the 360:
i saw a mint lime green 360 duster on the road yesterday.*DROOL*
