I'm sort of new to mags (just got an RT about a month ago), and so far I haven't had the best of luck with paint. Anyone use "#1 paintballs", and how do they hold up in a high pressure gun like the mag? What else is good for automags?

dio91- you haven't heard of which? tremor, or #1 paintballs? I've heard marbellizer (sp?) is good, but it's harder to find for cheap.

to tell you the truth...I've never heard of um. I use Zap of any kind. sometimes I use 32* competition, buts its expensive and you only get 1800 rounds per case

#1 is ok practice paint, its kinda dimpled and misshapen sometimes but cheap. YOu may have better luck with diablo midnight which is around the same price but usually more round.

Plus it's farely cheap. It's the field paint for all the fields in Albquerque (yea all 3). So it's pretty much all I use. Unless PBA has Proball.

Never heard of #1. just about everybody up here is Zap affiliated, except one place that sells Diablo.

My Favourites are Zap Chronic (Go Ahead, try and wipe this) and JT Advantage Shell.

Nelson Anarchy, good paint for not too much dough. You can usually find it for $47-$48/case online. It is my current favorite.

Oh brother....did no one even want to tackle this issue? Cowards!

tL, go to deep blue and immerse yourself in some logic and facts over what the difference between "operating pressure", "Input pressure" and "Pressure on the Ball" are. Your concluding something that is not logical.

Any decent paint is good in a Mag. I think you should conclude this was not decent paint...for any Marker.

i've never heard of #1 or tremors, but the best paint in my opinion for the money is either PMI premiums or 32* team colors, but if u wat the best marbs are the way to go. i will never trust ZAP again though, after the experience i had with them at a wayne dollack scenario game where they just broke i'll never use them again.

Out on this end of the province blaze is the field paint, except one field which uses PMI advantage for their field paint. I personaly use the advantage.
Yum, ZAP grease balls.

I'll admit, I don't know much about the gun. I guess I should have specified blowforward type of guns instead of "high pressure", as they seem to be harder on paint than the spyder style that I was used to. I guess my question should really be; It's going to need premium paint in it, but does some premium paint NOT work in the gun for whatever reason. I'm not sure what makes a paintball premium, other than more consistent "roundness", and thicker paint that won't wipe away. I just didn't want to go out there and spend $70 bucks on a case of paint, only to find out that it works about as good as cheapcrap paint.

I was very happy with the case of JT Elite I just finished today. Very good for the money...

PMI-PREMIUM is the best, always works good for me. Accurate, doesnt break.

I have used Competitive Edge, 32*, Blaze, Marbs, Viper Venom (Great paint), Severe, and some others. I have not had a problem with any of it. Was it old paint? Brittle? The 'Mag has gotten a bad rep because of bad paint. I shoot pretty fresh paint but I have used old crap before with no problems.

tl1000s: I suspect what you are getting at is the fact that guns with a high bolt speed, especially that use metal bolts, will destroy brittle paint in the feed tube if you get partial feeds. The slower bolt speeds. low pressure bolt activation, and delrin tipped bolts tend to reduce this (only LP driven bolts stop this, but pinching can be just as bad, or worse for feeding).

The mag is pretty harsh on paint that feeds partially, although it's still much easier on paint than most blow-back semi's, the bolt sanding Tom recomended will alleviate this somewhat. Shooting less brittle paint will as well.

Any RPS paint is good. JT Maxim (my current fav), though pricier than most, shoots darts out of my Emag.

Pro-ball is good all around paint too.

Sand your bolt down. After I did that I can shoot anything. Last week I was doing snap shooting drills with 16 month old JT. Half a case, zero breaks.

I use draxxus (diablo) midnight. I havent had any barrel breaks. It works great in my J&J ceramic. And it's some of the best paint for the price.

I think I'll try to round the bolt edge a bit as described previously. The problem paint I've used is JT elite, although I had some diablo midnight break too.

TL -try a foamy nosed bolt. I shoot a lot of Diablo and Anarchy out of my LP timmy's, when I switch to my Mag I continue to shoot brittle paint. I got an AGD foamy bolt and I can shoot anything now. I rarely chop and when I do it's usually on the run or while loading my hopper and still railin on my intelliframe.

Check them out in the AGD Store.
