is a 68 mag barrel interchangeable with a RT or E-mag? (not those vert feed barrels the usual barrel)
i know the new extreme bodies take cocker barrels.

Yes.. any mag that uses the twist-lock assembly will work with any other mag. The only ones that won't are the Micromag and the emag extreme since they use cocker barrels.

Yup. All powerfeed Mags take the same barrels. It's the vertical feeds that need a different slot.

Also, some (especially older) barrels are only milled to fit hopper right or left, and would have to have new grooves cut to fit the other.

Yes, the old 68 barrels are interchangable with rt's, rt-pro's and emags. with the few minor exceptions. Some barrels are cut for hopper right or hopper left, then there are the ones for both right and left. They both work just make sure you have 2 slots if your changing it from a left to right hopper powerfeed body. And as you stated the vertical feed.

all automag barrels work with other automag barrels, as long as their not centerfeed.

Twist lock is also hard to make, very un common... i know the place in town here stopped carrying Mag Barrels... not even the Freak in a mag barrel.. and i wanted to buy a nice Chrome/black freak kit :(
