View Full Version : Level 10 "carriers that worked" list thread

Thought it might be interesting to get a composite list to see if there is a trend on the carriers to bolt fits starting to develop. Besides Tom may actualy be able to use that to cut down on the carriers normally supplied and keep the kit costs down to us. Might be mutualy benificial. So lets see...

NB: List the carriers you ended up using only the one (ones) that worked. Nothing else. Thats all we want here in this thread. Not even marker type here. Use the regular feed back thread for that.

me? I was able to use the 1.5 and the 1.0 and they both worked. (I do need to double check I am reading them right but will correct if I am wrong please do the same)

1.5 worked best for me. It will be interesting to see how much it varies after another batch of o-rings are produced.

for me i ended up with teh 1.5

but we just need to remember one day we may need to use the 3 or bigger.... heck we may need a much smaller one also.... it all depends on the batch of orings....

1.5 and I was surprised that anyone might be able to use the 3 and larger ones.

I used the 2 (w/ longest spring). I can't imagine the need for a size above 3 either :)

how d0 you know whats 1.5 and 2

1.5 with middle spring. 2 is too loose, and thus leaks. 1 is a little tight, but still works if the AIR is jacked up all of the way, and a lighter spring is used.

The rings around the carrier represent a value of 1 for each one that's on the carrier. The three divots drilled in the carrier represent a value of .5. So if you have three rings and divots, then you have a 3.5 carrier.

If I assume correctly, you want the spacer that offers the minimal amount of resistance. By hand I've got the 2.0 in there now, no shims as I don't have a tank to check if the carrier is corret.

Will update when I get tank.

I thought that the little "divits" had to do with the black oring on the out side.

#2 with 2 shims and the longest spring, right now.
That may change after tomorrow, b/c I've only shot about 200 test balls in the backyard. I plan on shooting at least 500 on Sun.

Update on my carrier and shim usage. After several hundred dry fires, I noticed a light leak after firing the marker. After redoing the entire installation procedure, I have settled into the 1.5 carrier and a single shim. I must once again make the recomendation that the shims be made to the inner diameter of the power tube, as during the re-test I had two shims but had a constant leak, reoppened the lvl 10 and found another shim badly mangled (I have mangled a total of 3 shims since receiving the kit) I took out the bad shim and kept the remaining shim in to re-test and have had no problems since. I am still unwilling to stick any of my digits into the breach, the safety part of my brain screams NOOOOO! but I have had no chops or breaks out of the two cases of paint that I have put through the marker, one case being over eight months old opened! It is enough that several of my fellow AO testers have stuck their digits and tongues into the breech of their mags and fired, I believe in the product! My only fear is if I do it the lvl 10 would mysteriously malfunction:D! So for those who have braved the test, I salute you:D !

1.5 carrier, 3 shims, longest spring. Stops on a dime.
Gun type is in my sig.

*EDIT* - Originally I got the kit up and running with 1.5 carrier. After firing about 500 rounds...it developed a small leak the first started ahppening when I help trigger. After a few more rounds it sounded like a cocker hiss..very faint. I changed the 1.5 carrier out for the 1.0 using the same o-ring that was broken in on the 1.5. Works fine. You will need to adjust it after break-in. :D

*EDIT* - Also found it works with .5 and 0 carriers. With the 0 you have to oil it often.

I started with the 2 carrier and 2 shims had a very quiet leak so I dropped to the 1.5 and 2 shims. No leaks after a hundred or so shots and then I ran out of air. a 68/3k, a 68/45 and 2 scubas and not a single one of them have more than 500 psi in them.. grrr...

*EDIT*
Ok, I wound up having to drop to the smallest spring to get it working. so now it's a 1.5 with 2 shims and a small spring. I dropped amost 2 cases through it during a tournament on sunday and didnt chop a damn ball. my teammates were exceedingly pleased.

emag + lvl 10 + HALO = bliss

Im using 0 carrier, longest spring and 5 shims with the pressure jacked up, although i started with 1.5 and that works fine as well. Oil is a good thing for the tight fit but sometimes it will freeze and you have to degass and regass which is no problem if you have a proconnect.

Number 2 carrier, 2 shims, smallest spring. Although I had to take a little medal off the tip of the new bolt because it was too thick. I used an extremely fine grit tip on the dremel. Once finished I polished the whole bolt with the dremel and a cotton wheel wrapped in never-dul.

It's in! :D :D :D :D :D

I'm running #2 carrier with stock emag spring. (250fps) 4 shimms.

Sweet trigger, but I have an occational slight leak down the barrel. Have to try a smaller carrier...

[UPDATE!]
I've gone with the 1.5 carrier, and the leaks are gone. This setup has worked between 250 and 275. (Haven't tried it at other velocities yet...)

I did notice a slight trigger speed decrease when I went to the smaller carrier, but it was negligable...

I've got a stock new emag...i've put the 2 carrier/ 2 shims/ and the longest spring following Miscue's video..so i'll be trying her out at the field this weekend to see how it holds true..i imagine i may have to move down to a smaller carrier..but oh well..

Just installed Level 10 in my RT Pro. Started out with the #2 carrier, 2 shims and longest spring following Miscues video. I had a slight leak down the barrel. Dropped in the 1.5 carrier with 2 shims and longest spring. No problems. I have a hand held rado chron and had no problems adjusting the velocity between 250 - 290. We'll see how shes shoots when my son runs her at Shatnerball.

For several weeks I was shooting my level 10 with all the old paintballs I hade with the above setup and everything was working fine. I played in a 3-man tournament on 8-3-02 and gassed up my gun and made a couple of dry fires, chrongraphed my gun and took a few practice shots on the target range.
As soon as the ref blew the whistle I ran for the first bunker and popped around to snap a couple shots at an opponent. All I got was a slight hiss because the spring was too strong to drive the bolt forward. We played a team that was good and my team mates were eliminated. I was temped to grab a handful of paint and kamakazie slap it on the enemy as he ran by to hang the flag but I called myself out and went to the workbench and changed springs.
I still run the 1.5 carrier but I went with the stock spring to make it function. Needless to say that first game set the mood for the rest of the tournament.

#1 carrier/longest spring/2 shims

Doesn't chop one bounce paint so I'll probably leave it there. Still trying to get it to bounce off a one dollar bill like in the video though, so things may change.

Now on my fourth personal set up. And have assisted in five others. In all cases (but one) I am using 1.5 carrier, Two shims and middle spring. These are working fine after break in...In fact the last one I set up I just started with an oiled oring in a 1.5 rather than break in with a 2 and have to go down one carrier size later on. And that worked fine! Getting pretty darn good at these now!

The one that didn't? Ordering a new HP Piston as this old marker refused to set up with any combo without venting out the back. Then we shall start over with it. I am confident that will do it.

Interesting. I am also using the 1.5 carrier. The middle spring also worked, but I am using the longest spring because I can. :) However, I was unable to use 2 shims as it caused a leak.

1.5, medium spring, 2 shims.

Like mentioned above, I can't imagine an oring being so anorexic to need anything more than a 3.

After some initial trouble just getting the carrier into the PT (carrier too wide to fit past the threads in the PT, had to *tap* it in with a mallet) 1.5 has been working beautifully. The longest spring prevented me from firing so I went down to the middle spring and with the velocity cranked almost all the way up it cycles and works perfect. It stopped and recocked itself about 5 times on one mishapin 2 year old zap ball without cracking the shell. Simply. Amazing.

For my E-Mag: Medium spring, #2 carrier, 2 shims, 850 preset tank. Had the 2.5 carrier work, but it was leaking down the barrel more often than not. Still feels a bit heavy on the bolt movement (used my finger, not brave enough for the tongue - besides, that powerfeed would be sure to entrap my tongue if there were any mechanical failure....) so I'm not quite through playing with it. Ran some old oval paint through it, stuttered now and then, but didn't chop a one! :D

Final configuration for my old automag classic:
1.5 carrier
2 shims
shortest (original) spring

Like others, I can't possibly forsee ever needing the 3.5 or 4.0 carrier, or for that matter even the 0.0 carrier. AGD might want to think about leaving them out of future Level 10 kits, and save themselves some machining and cost. Maybe substitute a couple more shims/spare orings in the kit instead, since folks seem to damage their shims fairly often.....

Leaving out the 0 carrier is a bad idea. In my case the only setup that worked for me right out of the package was

.5 carrier (leaked after use) went to the 0 carrier
2 shims
and short spring

I need a new piston to get the other springs to actually work, but the setup now i can't chop a ball with anyway so whatever :)

Yeah, I started with the 1.0 carrier with 3 shims and medium spring and after about 3 cases or so it started to leak so I had to drop down to the .5 carrier and have put about a case worth of shots through that. Yeah so the 0 carrier is a good to still have for the few of us that may acctually need them. I totally agreee that they need to include a few more shims just incase some get screwed up.

i actually get really consistent velocity: +/- 1 fps... on friday i put 6 shots over the chrono

I was running with a 1.5 with 2 shims yesterday, but it still had enough force to push my hand away when I had a stick squeege near the bolt so I could see half breech and half stick. So I rolled up a piece of printer paper, didn't like the results I got. Dropped in another shim, waiting for my steel braided line and vert air adapter to test it out now. By the way, anyone know where to oil the XValve? I'm so confused! I know I'm supposed to oil the valve everytime I use it, but I can't remember where it told me to use the oil.
