It's probably that gold plating crap that looks cheesy and wears down after a while. You get what you pay for, just go for a single color ano if you want to save money.

this site has a list of shops around the country that can anodize
http://www.finishing.com/Shops/index.html

heres some links on how to do your own anodizing
http://www.warpig.com/paintball/technical/anodize.shtml
http://w3.uwyo.edu/~metal/anodizing.html
http://www.anodizing.org

i think this site explains how to do a splash ano, not sure tho i just skimmed thru it http://www.docsmachine.com/tech/anod.html

site with pics http://www.focuser.com/atm/anodize/anodize.html

this site is pretty technical, but im not sure how accurate it is cause its on geocities http://www.geocities.com/chemengr_60064/anodize.htm

also i wouldn't use car paint because it probably would scratch easy unless you had some sort of protective coating added. if you do use paint there is a paint i've seen on some imports and other customized cars that changes color depending on the angle you look at it and the lighting, its pretty expensive tho.
