I was on ebay just messing around and came across this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1846308786

I think it might be a scam, but i'm curious. I just dont have 10 freakin bucks in my paypal account:(

UTLadiesMan
07-25-2002, 12:26 AM
Probably says something like "Call Mike at WDP and tell him you are writing product reviews and would like a free IR3" or something else stupid. :p

puckmaster
07-25-2002, 12:34 AM
Ya, Probably. But I'm still curiouse and might do it. but i dont know.

Miscue
07-25-2002, 12:39 AM
Sounds like a scam.

"The secret is: Sell 10 tons of our potatoes by next week and we'll buy you the IR3."

Who knows.

RetroEclipseMan
07-25-2002, 01:19 AM
If you do this let us know if it's a scam or not. Seems very inticing but a little too good to be true. Luckily it's only $10 so if it is then you're not out over $100 that my stupid dad got scammed out of a few months ago but that's another story.

Wackomin
07-25-2002, 01:22 AM
If you look at the his buyers history and the person he bought it for... it seems like a legit system they are using. The guy he bought the idea from has sold about 130 of these ".doc" and has had a good amount of positive response. ..... Oh no i think i'm interested.... stop me please... can't spend money.

Cliffio
07-25-2002, 01:25 AM
i'd do it if i had 10 bucks in my paypal account, i mean might as well, it prolly wont pan out but hey, 10 bucks is worth trying i guess

You guys are too gullible :) (sp?)

You gotta head over to the tech boars. So many scams those guys are as sharp as a knife :)

15" LCD screen - 232

DONT GET IT. THE MANUFACTURER CHARGES 234 + SHIPPING IN LOTS OF 100,000, THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMS! AHHH

lol, that was terrible.

Anyhoo, those dumb info things are all over ebay. Just cuz it has a very very pretty IR3 doesnt make this one any better. Look at the invoice, its for a 10 dollar item. LOL, good job buddy. Anyone can get a reciept for a free 10 dollar item and just hand some dude 10 bucks in cash

UTLadiesMan
07-25-2002, 02:37 AM
One of the neutral feedbacks on the guy he bought it from.

"Involves using deception on manufacturers, no real info. Refund given quickly."

Mossman
07-25-2002, 02:45 AM
While i know its not a good idea, if we wanna do a AO paypal group buy, I'm in. I've got 2 bucks in my paypal acct burning a hole in my...paypal acct. If you guys wanna send me 8 more I'll buy it and publish it, since i am buying full rights to sell you the info for free right?

Cliffio
07-25-2002, 02:51 AM
ok if they are using deception with the manufactors then there is almost no way your gonna get an ir3 for free, thats for sure, tv companies are different but when you call a paintball manufacter your gonna get a real person, and you not gonna be able to fool them like you could a tv company or someone like that

It sounds extremely scam like. If anyone buys it though let us know. Extremely pretty IR3 though.

He does have a lot of positive feedback though.

cphilip
07-25-2002, 08:40 AM
Well first of all he has changed his identity and only has one feed back now. Thats a tip off.

Second of all he is violating eBay policy by not selling an actual product. Only the knowledge of how to obtain one.I have turned in many of these guys selling URL's already. And emailed those already bidding on them that they should retract their bids. All of these have been stopped and many of the potential victims have emailed me back to thank me. This one is a scam I should think.

Mossman
07-25-2002, 09:10 AM
Phil, is it really against ebay policy to sell info? Jeez, thats like 1/2 of what ebay is!

I'm gonna guess this isnt a scam, but not useful either.

FutureMagOwner
07-25-2002, 09:36 AM
they should just look thru and delete all the info ones it doesnt seem like it would be THAT hard after a while it would slow down i would think

though that would be cool if someone bought it and gave it to us :D

Yes but they will not go through and police it. But they will thank you for reporting it and deal with it within a day. They encourage you to report it as its impossible to find them all. My guess is someone reproted him is why he changed his identity.

It most certainly is against several of their rules:

"Listing Techniques that Circumvent eBay's fee structure
Users may not use systems or techniques to circumvent eBay fees. Some examples include:

Offering in a listing the opportunity to purchase the item or other merchandise outside of eBay"

And:

Catalog and URL Sales
Listings of catalogs from which buyers may directly order items are prohibited. In these situations, the seller will typically offer the catalog for low bid prices and complete sales outside of eBay for items found in the catalog. Old, collectible catalogs (i.e., those that you cannot order from any longer) are permissible. In addition, the sale of URLs that offer buyers the opportunity to purchase items outside of eBay are prohibited.

Also definately violates this:

Listing Policies
Our guidelines for listing items are outlined in the User Agreement. To help users properly list items, we've highlighted some listing policies and describe how we handle listing violations when they are reported to us. Please keep in mind the following policies apply to both the auction-style and fixed price formats.
Proper category listing
Items must be listed in the appropriate category.

Policy: Items that don't belong in a category will be moved to the appropriate category. Item listings that belong in the Mature Audiences category that are found outside of that category will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.

Choice Auctions
A Choice Listing occurs when a seller allows buyers to choose from a selection of items. Choice listings can be problematic because of potential for fee circumvention, transactions outside of eBay and other issues.

Policy: Choice Auctions are generally not allowed and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing. See also the policy related to “choice travel” certificates.

Exceptions:

Listings may offer custom made items or services that are created or customized to the buyer’s specification such as made to order clothing. Other permitted examples include re-sizing of rings or personalized mailing labels. All offered options must be provided at no additional charge to the buyer. Choice of title in software, books, music or movies is not allowed. Choice of size in pre-made items is not allowed.
Multiple quantity listings (Dutch auction or store) may offer a choice of color in otherwise identical items. However, the seller must be able to fulfill the entire quantity of every listing in any offered color even if every winning bidder makes exactly the same color selection. It is not permissible to state “The highest bidder gets first choice.” Choice auctions may not be offered “subject to availability” or request the buyer to contact the seller to see which colors are available or what quantity is available. This exception for choice of color does not apply to single quantity listings.

Ok. Lets have the people who said they would put in 2 dollers and have them send it to a member we all trust(and has an ebay account) Then when he gets the files, he postes them on AO. Just an Idea

RetroEclipseMan

Actually I would halfway believe this. I used to skate (Aggressive Inline) and some companies were so lax that you could call them up and say your frame cracked or something and they would send you a BRAND NEW pair of skates absolutely free. Of course those skates cost about half of an angel IR3 but hey I know it works in some places.

T-Type, send me 4 bucks via paypal and I'll have enough. 2 people have already sent paypal cash my way.

Guys, if this is legit, if everyone on AO gets in on it then no one will get anything. Say 1 offer is legit, think about how all the other people who bid on it are gonna share. The people who sent me money want to see the stuff first before I release it to AO. Send me a few bucks paypal at Mossman11@rcn.com to ensure you get to see it!

Ok well i am a little sceptacle (sp?) too but here is what i think is the best way. Have all the info and make it sound legit. Then tell them that your business is looking to get into the _______ market and that you would like to get a sample of their product to test and make sure it is what you are looking for, also if you offer to pay shipping then you will probably be more likely to get it. I havent tried anything yet and i would like to see what responses other people have gotten before i try and go get a bunch of stuff.

I'm not sure how you can justify this as not being fraud.

If your not what you say you are in order to get free stuff you are commintting fraud.

Please stay away from this guys. If nothing else keep it off this site. It is truly distasteful.

it's a fraud..I bought one for $5 on another auction...

same site he linked too..I signed up for the email.com account, and if you'll notice, he (the guy selling this info) only reccomends overseas companies....mainly because it's harder for them to get product back should they claim you gave them false information.

I started small just like he said with a few companies and ordered some pocket knives, etc...havn't gotten anything yet, but if I do I'll letcha know..
