Some electronic eyes (like the ones in halo loaders) have issues with "seeing" black paintballs. Will this be a problem with the ACE system? Maybe a sensor that picks up the weight of the ball like in some new markers would work better?

Just don't use black paint if it gives you probs, how many colors are there? :)

ACE use a reflective technology. I don't think they'll detect black paintballs.
The only way to be sure is to try with some paintballs.

They WILL detect black rounds, Tom set-up a IR test that ended up not even being able to tell the difference between red and black.

I used a HaloB with black paint no problems.

Well the complete story is that in the infra-red, black is not as dark as you might think. There are some colors that are less reflective. Our current strategy is to turn the sensitivity way up so it sees all paint and then use a software delay to compensate for it.
