The Army that is AO!!!

The Borg Collective will unite at CPX to destroy all that lay before them!! Before that happens......

We should be getting together for a little rest and relaxation!! Find out when everyone will be in and where we can meet say Friday afternoon. I think there is stuff going on Friday night that I might have to attend.

Lets get it together AO!!

I will be getting into Chicago Tuesday evening. I plan on hitting the field on Wednesday and registering and taking a look around (maybe even playing). I will be playing the Pump Tourney on Friday, so any get to gethers, lets work them around that, pretty please?:) I am hoping to hit a few blues clubs, Tuesday, Wednesday and maybe Thursday night. If anyone is going to be around and would like to join me, let me know. Also, for anyone who lives in the area, if you can point me to some of the better clubs, the first round is on me.

well im going to be there early friday morring.

im playing in the pump turnie.

i will be setting up a tent with a "automags online" banner on it.

i think this could be a good rally point. as it will be up all day, and up all day sat.

i would love to run point on this if no one else wants to.

we NEED to start getting orgnized with this.

we have are backs aginst the wall durring this game and we need a plan. i.e.. we are starting out in the middle of the feild and have ememy's on both sides of us at the start.

we know who are CO's are but we still need to get sub commanders assined.

we need to get madic's assigned

we need to get demolitions guys assigned.

as you can see there is a lot to do and not a lot of time left.

you guys let me know if you want me to try and get all this orgnized. i talked to tom and he said he was very busy, and i should try and get something going if i can.

p.s. sorry for the poor spelling and grammer.. I know i suck, so you dont have to tell me.

If any of these sound like something you'd like to do, post here!!

More info:

Each of the four Field Commanders & Base Security will have 200 troops. Four Squad Leaders need be assigned under each Field Commander. Squad Leaders need to: Be a paintball stud; be able to follow orders & improvise on the fly; handle a group of 50 players; be on the field for the entire game;

I'm pretty sure the Field & Base Security Commanders have already been chosen, but we need Squad leaders... Preferably w/ some sort of military background... Army, Shart?

DEMOLITIONS EXPERT:
These players have the ability to use special demolitions satchel charges. The satchel must
contain an explosives card to be counted. An explosives card alone will not work - it must be
inside a satchel. The satchel card defines what type of explosive it is, and how it may be used. The
satchel must be approved by game director.

Artillery Crewman:
These players have the ability to use LAW rocket launchers. LAWs can be used to blow up
tanks, command bunkers, bridges and buildings and groups of people within or on these
structures.

ENGINEER:
These players have the ability to rebuild structures which have been previously blown up and
will be assigned to move and setup the Mobile Command Bunker (MCB).

MEDIC:
Able to heal players on the field. They must reach the player within one minute, wipe the paint
from the player, and write down the player's ID card number on their medic card. A marked
player may not move. The “wounded player” cannot speak other than to call for a medic, shoot
or otherwise participate in the game until the medic has “healed” him/her. At this point, the
player is again a live player and can resume play. HEAD SHOTS are NOT able to be healed! A
head shot means you're eliminated, no matter what.
For example: Player “A” and “B” are teammates and are playing alongside each other. Player
“A” is hit in the leg. Player “A” says that he is “hit”. Player “B” can either call for a medic and
attempt to cover the medic’s approach or can actively search out a medic and bring the medic
back to his “wounded” teammate. The medic must reach the “wounded” player within 1 minute
in order for the player to be “healed”.

Mantis
08-16-2002, 11:02 AM
I'd like to be a medic if possible. Two of my friends and I are experienced scenario gamers (all the Hell Survivor's games for the past several years), and we have had a medic in our group before.
With only 5 medics per team, they will have their hands full, and I have already spoken to my friends about us basically being the medic squad with them as my escorts and they're cool with it. We figure someone's always getting hit, so we'll always have something to do :)
We will be in late Thursday night, so we can get to any meeting on Friday.

hmmm

here's an idea..

each medic gets a radio.

A few people have select bands/channels that the medics are on as well as some other players. We can have other people on the field with radios to get the medics to a location or to call for cover fire for a medic or wahtever..

also can someone get me a map of the overhead? The link in the other thread didn't work for me too well....also I'll need to know where the three teams are starting at on the field..

I'm assuming they're merging all the fields into one big one?

As for roles, I played a company commander until my company was disolved because of lack of preperation on the part of the higher command structer:rolleyes: at D-Day in OK. I have had some experience in command in the past but really enjoy just playing. I will be carrying along a M-79 paint launcher so if you need my services as a demolitions/tank buster I will be more then happy to serve.

Well, the rules state that medics need to heal people within 1 minute of them being tagged, so by the time you radio for someone it will be too late. In my experience, though, nobody's standing there with a stopwatch so if it's reasonably quick after being tagged you're OK.
I think we should have 1 medic (at least) at the HQ at all times, and then send 1 or 2 medics with major strike forces that go out on missions.
One thing I do think we should have a radio channel for, or at least a method for contacting, is the tank killing team. For these guys to be effective, they'll have to be notified quickly when somebody spots enemy armor so they can neutralize it as soon as possible.

So far we have two anti-tank weapons. One working and one being tweaked. Thordic is using one, I'm guessing he'll want a support group. So we need someone else to run the other one with another support group.

How much land we talking about for the field? How many acres? I know when I played the WRG back in 94 and 96 a guy I went with had a topo map of the area and then walked the field with his GPS (big arse thing at the time) and marked on the maps where all the boundaries and bases where. He then copied the map and gave out a hundred or so to people on the team. It was kinda nice to have cause of there being so much land you easily got turned around and where not sure which way was which.

Having said this. If the field is big enough for this idea to work. I have topo map software for the US at 1:100,000 detail and I can get topo software for IL in detail of 1:24,000. I can then walk the field on Wednesday and map out boundaries, bases and any other important way point and then get it printed out. If anyone likes this idea and I'll make sure I have all the gear with me when i get to Chicago.

BTW, I can care less what I do on the field.

warpfeedmod
08-16-2002, 01:35 PM
hey Muzik...if you can get me a topo map of the field (better then the one from mapquest/globexplorer or the CPX site) that'd be great. I was working on getting a small boundries, forts, etc mapped out to make a sort of battle plan out of..

Being that we're in the middle we'll need alot of support on the both sides of the fort/bunker whatever.

Also, just a thought, knowing that this forum is well read, should we perhaps have a sort of "private" forum for just the Borg so that any "spies" who might be lurking can't see our plans/thoughts?

wyn1370

If you can get me the coordinates of one point on the field I can get you a 1:24,000 topo map of the area right now. This I can get it to you in a large JPG format. These maps are 1in = 2000ft and the contour lines are 20ft increments I believe.

I think it would be better to meet at CPX..

if we are going to be there friday durring the day..

and playing in a turnie like some of us..

it would be a lot easier to get 1 tom to CPX then get get 100's of us to AGD..

AGD is not close to CPX, and i think tom has the events at CPX so he needs to be there anyway...

OK here we go decent places for food:

There is a mall about 5 miles away with the following:
Red Lobster
Texas Road House
Sammy's (BAR but also has limited food the usual bar food)
Lonestar
Applebees
TGI Fridays
a few other mom pop places

Near the hotels:
Senor Tequilas (the mexican place i mentioned)
Bakers Square
Family Table (mom pop place not so great until after a few drinks)
Aurelio's Pizza
Old Fashioned Pancake House (breakfast)
Hero's and Legands (Sports bar, but has decent food huge burgers, but seating 50 people could be tough)

Overall depending on the mob of people we have to realize it will be tough to get a large group of people into one resturaunt. This a start of at least some of the major places. Not too much else to brag about!

Well that can take care of the after dinner activities. So we could pick a food establishment that may not have the greatest drink specials and that way we could have some intelligent conversation before the serious drinking begins.

I am sure they will have a HUGE number of Chronos and Refs at an event like this, but I'd get everything ready as early as possible if I were you. I think we are getting in sometime around 2PM on Thursday.

Our plan was to get in and go to sleep till 6 or so, because we are leaving from Jersey at like 2AM, so we'll be getting in from a 13+ hour drive.

We were going to take care of registering and that stuff sometime Friday AM.

I thought the lettering was being done by Wicked Mpulse. I also think that someone should get a hold of who ever is going to be doing the lettering and make sure they can make the AO in larger lettering than the name. I figure you want the AO the same size as mubers usually are.

Well its not much, but a rough estimate, you could cross check it against a real map and find the coordinates that way. They dont seem to have an address anywhere on the site, i know some of those mapquest-type sites give you coordinates based on the addy.

Ok, I can work with this. I will drop everything into a 1:24,000 topo this weekend and then I'll have the basics for walking the field next week. Then it is just up to finding a Kinkos to print out the maps. For those that have GPS's I will have the maps printed with grid lines. I will also have my laptop with EZ-GPS installed so that anyone with a serial cable and a GPS can download the waypoints to it.

I am unsure how helpful this will be cause right now I do not know if the field is large enough to warrant it, but oh well, it will be cool anyway:)

well the flag to the right of our de splat zone is the city called Bedlam, I bet its in the big town hall. Thats ok that they are in open areas. I am kind of skitish about taking the tank into close quarter spaces. You never know when a player will pop up with a law and zap the tank. But seeing that they have the open area this will be great. With a good squad supporting the tank that can spot and take out anti tank players. It will be like driving into a fish bowl for me and opening fire. I dont have to duck I dont have to run I just grease anything that is not borg in a 360 degree arch of fire. I just need good support from the ground pounders shooting the anti tanks players and letting me know where they are at. As for shooting other tanks just leave that to me if they roll in on us. With the set up I have in the turret it will be hard to miss. if I do I can reload very fast when under pressure. Once the anti tank players are cleared out of an area, whats left will be like swiss cheese. And keep looking for the nerf howler footballs/ rockets. The small 2 inch dia ones. I can use a couple more donated to the tank and cannon. See that multi ball rounds are limited to 10 I am not even bothering loading up shells for the tank and cannon. We'll just use the nerf howlers.

A federation player was walking down the street one day when he came apon a borg. The Borg was jumping up and down on a man hole yelling "42 -42-42-42". AS the fedaration player walked up he said "Hey borg, what are doing. " the borg said "having alot of fun!" Well the federation player thought that it must be fun if a Borg is doing it . So he asked to try it. The Borg said " i dont think you can jump high enough to do this" The Federation player said "Just watch me" He then pushed the Borg off and starting jumping up and down up and down. the Borg said "you have to jump higher to compete with me". So the Federation player was now jumping with all his might, and right at the peak of his jump the Borg pulled the Man hole cover off and Down the Federation player went. The Borg then slid the cover back on the hole and started jumping up and down saying "43 - 43- 43 -43". Mean while the Federation player
finally got his senses back togehter and looked up and saw this big Klingon stareing him right in the eyes. The startled federation player quickly asked " WHO ARE YOU!" the Klingon said "41"
and so it is written as it will be done

Boy would it suck if the Federation and the Klingons work out a peace treaty during this game.

As long as we keep a good perimeter around our base we can defend ourselves. Maybe we should use the tanks as base security to give that extra menacing apperance.

Everyone here should remember that elimintations don't win this game, so let's not worry about attacking the opposition's base or finding their hiding places behind the bases. Due to technical difficulties, my potato gun is a no-go for an anti-tank gun at Shatnerball. I just can't get the damn thing to shoot well at low pressures, not to mention I am in need of parts to repair one of the regs I was planning on using.

I was trying to get the stupid thing to work, but so far I have had no luck.

I know someone who is going has that LAW rocket, and NERF football ammo. I'm going to find that person and send them a PM to make sure they bring that so the AO platoon still has anti-tank capabilities.

Only if we have a demo with us. And if the commander isn't there it is not worth as much.

We should focus on missions first and foremost. After a mission has been completed you can spray a command center on the way back. :)

I have a favor to ask of anyone who lives near the area.

Jon has told me before that fireworks are legal in Illinois.

I need ones that go boom. M80s, M100s, quartersticks, cherry bombs, whatever.

If anyone who lives near Joliet or somewhere in that area knows someplace that sells the above, please drop me a PM :)

Wo Hop is an awesome little chinese food place in Chinatown in NYC.

The food is good, the prices are cheap, and for some reason it has a cult following. Its also open 24 hours a day.

~Fred

In some ways this is true Fred but not entirely. We are looking at very large teams and coordinating missions that large is going to be difficult. I am assuming that there may also be points for holding some area etc. I can tell you that since we are using MXS rules I think they may be using the same style of scenario. That means missions called in every 15 min. Now if you take out a command bunker and hold it for say 45 minutes then they miss 3 missions. Also props are worth points and power in a game like this. You find a prop stash or they leave something in the command bunker and you own it.
Now I have to agree that we need to focus on missions not taking over a worthless piece of realestate but command bunkers are a viable target with the right timing manpower and goals in mind.

If you are refering to our scenario issues you need to know this is not just a paintball game where you shoot people. Although you hope to do a lot of that too. I know people that spend most of the time at these games without a marker. If you want to know more about how a scenario is different let me know. If not I won't bother.

Naturally taking out a command center is a huge accomplishment, my point is simply that we shouldn't take it upon ourselves to attempt a feat without some serious planning beforehand. I just don't want Scenario rookies to come into the game with the "Rambo" idea of taking a command center with 5 people.

As Tom's AO Elite we HAVE to be VERY organized if we want to win all of our missions, perhaps Tom can put us under the direct command of Wayne or another experienced General... that way if the poopoo hits the fan, we can react quickly and clean up the mess that our normal players might not be able to handle.(by normal i mean the people who just want to shoot at stuff).

As much as we need to make sure we work togather to finish missions, we need to remember that we are fighting a war on two fronts. That means we need to focus on command defence almost as much as we do the missions. If we lose our command post and have to fight to get it back it will leave us at a big disadvantage when it comes to fielding troops to the missions. My suggestion is to split into two betallions. One to run missions, the other will task a company to the first, and the rest will act as command post security and possibablly run short clearing or seek and destroy missions out of the command post.

Also, we need to think about trying to get a large unit togather before we leave the clearing point. That way we can fight our way out in force instead of just one or two at a time. If the rules allow I would suggest possibablly recycleing, and while keeping our barrel plugs in make our way to the command post and reinsert from that point. That way our commanders can keep track of the avaliable forces for defence purposes as well as fielding missions.

We are a very small arm on a very large body! It would be nice to get some input from Tom, Wayne or Budd. Perhaps we should nominate a liason to pester the hell out of Tom about what AO's role will be in this game.

We should definately cover Base defense as a whole for a little while. It could really help us defensively to have a large group of people who are farmiliar to each other (even in name only.)

~Fred

wyn1370
08-27-2002, 07:12 AM
Everyone keeps talking of having only one group to do missions. If missions are sent in every 15 minutes, then we may be short on mission runners. I guessing not every mission is going to stay under 15 minutes. What we might want to do is split into groups. If you are not on a mission, you are guarding the base camp. If a mission comes in, the next group heads out. When any group is done with a mission, they head back and wait their turn for their next mission.

just found this too. not sure if it's supposed to be a tank, or just some silly thing that will sit in the parking lot.trekkie stuff (http://www.armoredfistpaintball.com/RS-day-seven-019.jpg)

MagDog68
08-27-2002, 08:07 AM
And another thing people forget is that we are not the entire team! There is likely to be 1000 people on our team, so we will be a very small group of players. We will not be involved in every mission.

Personally, I will probably go on a mission and then pull base defense for an hour then do another mission. Base defense should be rotated that way so everyone gets to participate in a few mission while our base is secure. Besides, once in a while base defense gets involved in some awesome firefights.

~Fred

PS There are a few flag stations near our base that we may stretch our perimeter around. If we do that we cut the field in half and make the chances of awesome firefights very likely!

Dont let the size bother you. It holds 5 people. One drives and plays with the stereo. One trys to load the cannon and fire it. A couple shoot out the holes in the sides. Its big slow and cumbersome. It will make a big easy fat target. Just like me. Who ever is running the anti tank gun at our fort at the time this thing comes rumbling in will be hurting it bad. It will be like hitting a bull in the #$% with a banjo. And if you miss, who ever fires it. You will not live that down for a long time. It will be like throwing your self at the ground.
If you look on Armoredfistpaintball.com it is the Tiger tank from long Island run by TJ Alcot and his crew. A good bunch to play against and alot more fun watching them go back to the desplat zone!!

I have my launcher up and running for artillery and Anti-Tank duties. I havn't had a chance to get alot of practice with it but I should be able to do some damage. I may be able to talk my field owner into letting me use some of our bazookas. If so I will need to make sure we get them back but I could probablly talk him into it. They are muzzle loaded and very long and cumbersom but will shoot the S--- out of paintballs and grenades. They also can be switched to a mortar tube by unscrewing the long bazooka barrell and adding a shorter, wider mortar barrell.

As for the defence of the base. I know we will be slightly under 1000 players but if we can split the force into 2 units of about 500 each, one unit can run longer missions out of the command base while the other can provide base security and set up observation post and short range patrols and missons. That way we will have a large force at hand to defend the base at all times but still have players out on the field for the missions. Also, rotateing the players so everyone can do mssions and base defence would help keep everyone happy.

I have every faith in the world that Wayne and Tom will have a helluva plan for base security and mission compleation but it is always nice to throw out a suggestion to two. Especially when you know your glorious commander is known to check out these threads from time to time. ;)

ya know, after viewing all the talk of these anti-tank weapons and such, I want to sign up for some anti-tank duty with a Bazooka or RL. I'm thinking we catch the tanks mid-way to our base or wherever they're headed so as not to fight them near/in our base. Of course I don't want to do this all day long, I want to get some action in on the front lines. Basically wherever I'm needed..

You don't use paint with the nerf's. Also, depending on how the game is run, there might be a limited supply. They will probably try to some game balancing based upon the number of anti-tank weapons vs. the number of tanks. (just my question).

Hi
Each tank will have one ref forsure maybe 2. And as far as I have understood it the refs watch for the rockets to hit the tanks. That is the only way to take out a tank is with a law. Paint wont count.
Everybody wish me luck and say a prayer for the freak tank. The dam thing is filling the cylinders full of gas. It is blowing right through the carb. %^&$ *&^ !@#$. I have new carb parts comming tommorow, I hope. This was the last things I exspected to happen. If I get it thier I will jump it right into the river if it keeps this up. that has got to be the best written mainstream paintball article i've seen yet-- from correct terminology ("marker" instead of "gun", etc) to pointing out that AGD is one of the most revered paintball companies! And here's the kicker!

Kaye will helm the most experienced squadron, one stacked with highly experienced paintball veterans. Shatner and Muller are, in paintball-speak, "newbies," and most of their charges will be be just as green. Which is why, in an attempt to level the playing field somewhat, they'll be situated in such a way as to crush Kaye (if he doesn't crush them first--which is entirely possible) in a Klingon-Federation sandwich before obliterating each other in an all-out snipefest that's sure to devolve into semi-organized chaos.

Good luck you guys. I'll be doing...Calculus homework I think while you guys are running around shooting Trekkies. Or swimming in an indoor pool. Or driving around with my car, testing my mileage. I found I could jump my mileage up 7 MPG by going 55 instead of 70. Going to test that again. After my last trip 2 weeks ago, I've sworn off air travel for about 3 years until all this crap about security comes down. They searched my bag, took a pair of SCISSORS from my maincure kit. They wanted to take it ALL, NAIL CLIPPERS and the rest. WTH am I going to do with a pair of nail CLIPPERS?!?! Cut SOMEONE?!! /rant off
