Grr I got another speeding ticket a few weeks back. I sent in for the defensive driving information. I got the letter back from the judge and low and behold it's addressed to my dad, not to me. Does this mean that I can get the ticket dismissed? My dad and I have the same name with the suffix being the only difference (III vs IV). When I look back at the ticket I can't tell if the officer wrote III or IV. I'm at a loss. Any help out there?

I would not worry about if you can get it dismissed, but more so that the penalties get assigned to the correct person. Chances are, it is cross referenced with an actual License Number, and all other relevant information, anyway. A misspelled name, or miss-numbered name, seldom changes the liability of the party at fault (mostly only in movies).
I have seen case numbers, dates, parities, and a combination of those being wrong and the cases still going through.
Oh…. And slow down. ;)

Phoey, I just got off the phone with them. It's correct on the ticket, it just got written down wrong on the Affidavit.
Blah slow down, Stupid rules, but you're right I have to follow em.
*rant*
now for my inital thoughts: but I was in the middle of NOWHERE, not endangering any life or anything. I was doing 81 in a 70. (I think he may have fudged the 1 just to get it up into the next range, but I have no proof of that soooooo) GRRRRR....
At least this one wasn't in a construction zone.
Both of my tickets have been from small towns while I was on my way between cities. I never get pulled over for speeding in town (cause for the most part I don't) but when I'm in the middle of nowhere (with a back injury that makes sitting uncomfortable) I just really want to get there. Blah Blah blah....
*end rant*
edit* Oh and SHartly, I still want a sig pict when you get the chance. :D

Well there are MANY ways to get off of a ticket. Search for them on the internet.
A way to have it not hit your insurance is to send a check 5 dollars over the cost of the ticket to the collections place. They will then send you a check for 5 dollars. DO NOT CASH IT. Think of it as a donation. They will not (most states) send the ticket to the insurance without there books being straight. If you never cash it, they will show then owing you 5 dollars hence they won't send it to your insurance. My friend has had 4 speeding tickets and none has gone to his insurance.

This confuses me, because insurance companies routinely check your Drivers Abstract (record) - so I never understood that particular trick.
If you really want to keep the ticket off of your insurance, your best bet is to goto court and fight it. In small towns you can sometimes talk them down to a non-point violation since its really the money they are after. I notice small towns use speeders as revenue, so as long as you give them money they are happy. I have been pulled over on I 87 a few times and have either talked my way out of the ticket or gotten it reduced to something like driving w/o a seatbelt.

I know when i got pulled over for doing 60 in a 30 and i asked the cop to see the radar detector cause i didn't believe i was going that fast and also there was a larger+faster oncoming car that passed that cop at the same time i did and the cop didn't let me see it and i told the judge this and it was dismissed except for the defensive driving course i had to sit through.

Retro: I checked. In Texas there is no stipulation that they must show us the radar detector. I checked when I got pulled over.
my dads friends are mostly cops... my bro and sis and parents get there tickets fixed
