I'm thinking that we might want to make sure that every commander, medic, engineer, tank, and tank killer has a radio. Once we outfit our special teams, then worry about us grunts.

I can definitely see the medic and a tanker or anti-tank person.

I've found in scenario games these a a great recon tool... just let the channel scan and listen to the other guys.

Yes... you do :)

Also, I have some Borg wav files I hope to convert to mp3 beforehand to play accross the Federation channels... supposing they are organized enough to have channels.

I have a conversational klingon CD (yes yes call me a trekkie heh) that basically tells you how to say certain words in klingon and how to pronounce them. I'll bring it if you want to play some Klingon stuff through the airwaves to mess with the other teams :p

Also I'll be picking up a radio this weekend probably with headset. Can someone reccomend a good radio? 15 Channel or something like that?

The motorolas are the best ... in my opinion... there are many clones out there... just make sure it's FRS band and has the scrambler options... that might come in handy :)

My radios are Motorola Talkabout 250's

As for head sets, Radio Shack has some nice PTT Earbuds. They work great when playing paintball What you do not want are the voice activated headsets. We don't all want to hear you breath:)

I just ordered a motorola. My question would be, can you use your hand free cell phone equipment on the radio? I've got two or three handsfree kits I could bring if they'll work.

My guess is not. I know radios use a dual mono jacks (Mic and Phone). Most Cell phones use just a single stereo jack (Tip-mic / Ring-Phone). Also, I have never seen a PTT cell phone head set/earbud.

Really I just want to ear bud part to work. Well I'll try it out when it shows up.

The VOX or PTT is a function of the radio... not the headset so any headset with two jacks should work ok as PTT. I have one earbud set and one over the ear set. Haven't tried the bud set yet... It's a single plug but has a split-out adapter with it.

Hmm...my PTT has the button on the mic. If I plugged a mic directly into the mic port on the radio it would always act as a VOX.

There should also be a VOX PTTT setting on the radio... it defaults to VOX if the headset is plugged in... I guess I should ask... Is it a Talkabout?

I got a Motorola TalkAbout T6400. It ended up being cheaper than the 250 because of a mail in rebate.

There are radios with scrambler options? I know the subchannels are like seperate but not really, because you can monitor all traffic on a channel thru subgroup 0. If they have scrambled options that would be great, but how would you get all our radios to use the same scrambled protocol?

jeffremiller

That's why I have all motorola radios :) Some of the others don't do the scambles or subchannel stuff.
