i need to get my tank rehydrod but the local shop wont remove the reg cause they dont want to risk damaging the threads cause of insurance. i hear a fire extinguisher place can do it but how do i find one... i dont think fire extinguisher place is in the phone book. and would a scuba shop be able to remove it, theres one near my house.

Your local dive shop will probably not remove it, but usually the Fire extinguisher shop includes the removal and reinstallation of the reg. Call up the scuba shop and ask them.

Sorry let me clarify, the shop that your dive ship sends your tank to will remove and reinstall your reg.

This is who I use they do it all just send them the tank they will do it and you dont have to remove anything. Give the a call. When I sent my tank on a Monday they had it back to my by Friday.

I don't think you can properly hydro test one without removing the reg. You have to inspect the neck for cracks. And with the reg in that is impossible.

The place that I listed will remove it for you and test. They are the same company that has a mobil test unit that goes to all the nppl games.

Here, This site has a list of all of the places in the US that are certified to hydro test. You should be able to find one close to you.

I actually removed the reg from my tank myself. Just use a couple of belt wrenches, and some elbow grease :)

Putting the tank back together is a differant story tho. You gotta wrench it back on, and loc-tite it down. wouln't do that part myself.

reinstallation of a reg requires the reg to be screwed onto the bottle at a specific torque, so its typically not a DIY job :). Also when you yanked the reg off you may have damaged the tank threads, in which case you get a pretty hole in your tank once you send it for hydro :D

I just got my tank back from being retested about 3 days ago. Heres where I had it done: HYDROTESTERS.COM (http://www.hydrotesters.com)

If they recieve it on Monday, they'll have it shipped by that Friday, any other day, it'll be sent out the following Friday.
