after a year of begging my parents decided to get me a car. and this is what i found waiting on my driveway! a dumpy 1980 polish car... But then i toke it for a ride and I am so impressed. It looks pretty crappy, but it's actually pretty sweet. It's hard to get used to the kilometers per hour w/ no miles. All it needs now is a sound system. and where am i gonna find parts for this car anyway???
Well i'mstill impressed it rides really nice.
it's a 1980 FSO Polonez Caro
i don't have a digital camera but here's a pic from the website. Same car and same blue color.

Yes, it is free. :D I would bet that it is pretty good on gas as well. Add to that that I would also bet it is pretty easy on the insurance side of the house as well. ;) These are two great points for younger folks. You really don’t want a car that will kill you to just take it out of the driveway.

KPH vs MPH…. should not be a problem. You should be able to buy a replacement gauge sticker/decal, OR just look at your folks’ vehicle and take out YOUR decal and add the appropriate numbers yourself! :D

To add to SHartley's good points - you will definately be original. :D

Hey! You know what you could do? Put a hood scoop on it, and a wing off the back! Then slap a big "NOS" decal on the side. :D ;)

Find the point that is 35 MPH...take a Sharpie and make a line. Never cross that line. Your parents will be fine with that. Perhaps they did this to confuse you? :D

Alright here is an easy way to deal with the mph. Find one of those electonic radar things that tell you your mph as you approach. Use that is a guide if you can find one in your town.

about my sig:
it's from Radiohead's album 'Kid A', one of the logos from the cover. Supposed to symbolize commercialization and how pointlessly people live thier life. Pretty pessimistic.

Just curious how they got a hold of it? Not to common to see one of those around here.

Polishpickles451

no not common at all...
well my uncle in Poland has a car/car parts import and export bussiness. His main area of bussiness is shipping expensive german cars to the US, as the price is much lower in POland then in the states. But my parents said they wanted a car under $2000 for me, so my uncle arranged it w/ shipping free. Cars over 20 years old have simpler registration process as they are considered 'antique'.
So that's how this FSO got into my hands.
has room for plenty of paintball equipment.

13:15 is not Metric. ;) It is 24 Hour time. Quite easy actually, and I wish everyone used it.

i know its not metric but everything else was... my car has this weird computer in it it give me warnings if i go over an adjustable speed limit ( that i can put in), it has a digital range meter thing ( goes by current miles per gallon and amount of gas left) and a bunch of other stuff in this digital LCD display in the dasboard that looks like a calclator... all those things were in metric....and the clock was part of the display...

definatly true on the time.
Whenever i go to europe they have that and it makes sence. Why stop at 12 and go to 1? Now that's silly.

The metric system is better, IMHO.

However, being an Aviation student, I need to know both, because all the purdy planes are made in the good ol' US of A. With the exception of Bombardier and DeHaviland.
