First of all, thanks to Darren aka Gambit1106 for hosting a BBQ on Friday night for a bunch of his fellow AO/Borg bretheren and sister (Capo)!!

After waking up waaaaaaaaaay to early (about 4 am), I arrived at CPX around 6 am and found myself waiting in a 3/4 mile long line for parking. DOH! But eventually, I got in and got a spot. The pregame trash talk began around 7, with Tom Kaye aka the Borg King doing most of the talking as Shatner & Mancow were delayed.

Here's a picture of TK yelling out at Mancow and Shatner, egging them on to come and take on the fearsome Borg Collective!

Here's the final pregame pep talk to the Collective - just before we went forth and assimilated the Klingons!

While the Collective was taking it to the Klingon Empire, who shows up but the hated Federation...sneaking up on the rear of the Collective!

Gunga
09-01-2002, 02:08 PM
Leading from the rear, the 'cowardly' Admiral Kirk and his 'Red Shirt Brigade'...so much for leading from the front lines! ;)

Gunga
09-01-2002, 02:10 PM
Later in the day, the Borg & Klingons (Mancow's the one with the walkie talkie) made an unholy alliance...teaming together to crush the Federation scum!! The Federation was so disheartened and overrun that Admiral Kirk requested to start negotiations. Hah!

magman007
09-01-2002, 02:11 PM
wow, red is a really bad idea for a jersey, jeez, didnt they learn from the english? and wasnt kirks arigional shirt yellow? I wouls have hated to be on the federation, with bright red shirts!

Gunga
09-01-2002, 02:12 PM
Well, why did the Klingons decide to team with the Borg? Just look at what we did to one of their tanks! :D They learned not to mess with the Collective! Resistance is Futile!

Gunga

This is what happens to those foolish enough to resist the Borg! Or in this case, one of the tank gunners, 'Weltman'!

Since the battle was so long, even the mightiest of Borg Drones needed to regenerate!

Gunga
09-01-2002, 02:22 PM
At the end of the day, there was a final conflict. The Feddies started off in Armageddon, the Klingons in Bedlam, and the Borg in the forest just north of those two other fields. The Federation bravely (foolishly?) tried a frontal assault upon Bedlam several times.

Gunga
09-01-2002, 02:23 PM
Alas, the 'Charge of the Red Shirt Brigade' ended up like it did in the old classic Star Trek episodes. A lot of dead guys in red shirts. :) When I saw all the paint flying at them from the Borg Collective, I almost felt sorry for them. Almost. :D

Look at all of them trudging back to the dead box. :p

Apparently the 'Red Shirt Brigade' didn't learn their lesson the first 5 times they assualted us. Lookie...here they come again!

At 4pm, the game ended, signaled by some fireworks that were shot up into the sky. Immediately after the final battle ended, the generals met up and congratulated each other on a game well done. Shatner then filmed a small scene for the DVD of the event.

There was an auction of various things for the charity. One of the custom Action Markers pump guns & a custom E-mag Extreme C&C (both signed by Shatner) were auctioned off for $3000 each! Mancow purchased the original Ronn Stern painting for the event for $5000. Also, an issue of Maxim with an interview with Shatner (and his autograph) went for $250!

Several people got rewards & recognition, including the people who traveled the furthest, Daniel from Germany and our very own Manike from the UK and TooDamnSweet from sunny Hawaii!

One question, how do you score an elimination on a tank?

magman007

HAHA i think employee parking is in bedlam! hahaha that would be funny,

yea how do you eliminate a tank, dont you have to "shoot it" with a prop?

Rusty

Yes it was a good time for the ground pounders. Being a tank I had to stick to trails. Which when the game started I followed the borg out. They mostly turned and went up through the woods twords temple of doom and the city. I had to stay on the trail trying to find away up to support the troops. I found out later that the borg never were given a base. So I had to drag this cannon on the back most of my first insertion. Well the further I got the more red shirts thier were. The flag stations that were off the trail did not have tank paths to them so they were out for me. I could launch paint into them and the fed would just duck and waite for me to stop. I knew thier was an anti tanker somewhere out thier. And after I crossed the second bridge going twords fort courage I found him. I seen the long tube he was keeping slung low untill he go I clear shot. I spun the turret to the right side about the same time he started to bring the law up to bear. I got off aboput 10 rounds trying to find range when I seen the little orange rocket comming down the flight path. Well time to take the tank back and try again.good shot from the anti tanker. I still had know idea where I was on the map or where the Borg had gone to. I soon found out that that trail was the only place the Borg tank could insert. That was a major drag for me. Everybody else had a nice wide gravel rode to get to thier base. The most fun I had is when Tom told me to try and get in the back of Armagedon and I did with the help of some refs who wanted to see the fire fight. We got the tank in and a photo guy hopped in to ride with.
We went through Arma.. and thier wasthe hill in front of us between the two areas. I told him to hang on and we climbed to the top. Thats where the feds found out I was borg and the started to scramble. I drove right down into the square and started shooting everything that was red. The ref said I cleared out about 8 or 9 guys before the refs pulled me out. I found out later that I could not be in thier with the tank. So that left me with that dam bummpy trail down past the shooting range again.
in short it was a rough day for thew Borg tanker because I was very limited where I could go. No armagedon.no bedlam, the bridge was to small to go by fort courage from the Borg start point and I was also told I could not drive on the road with the tank because I did not have a cloaking device? So I parked it and brung out the cannon. I got into some trouble with that also. Not for velocity just that they tought I was shooting at people. But if the refs did a better job on that end the people should not have been allowed to stand right by the tank I was shooting at. So I parked that one too after that. AS a player I would of had alot more fun. It sure looked like they enjoyed it a whole lot. But it was a rough day for the tanker. So I sold it to Tactical gear out of California. You will see it in more scenario games next year. I wish him luck with it. And once my wife gets here hard would floor in the next tank plans will be sprung on her. See you next time

The way to get a tank out is to shoot a rocket at it with a LAW. A lot of people were using small Nerf footballs (2 inch across).
Shatnerball was great, but I still feel we got robbed.

didn't they also install cut-off switches for the tanks motor... with a SMALL hole in it so a paintball could take it out(with alot of paint, a good eye, and a lot of luck)

The Texans have been swaping information because sometimes the best information about a scenario comes from the things you did NOT know. Here are some of the things I have heard.

First, The Texans thought you all were the best.

MrS. Shatner ROCKS....Here is a quote from Trips on Viper's board. "Mrs. Shatner had some serious game!!! Not afraid to get hit and was usually in the thick of the battle front lines. My hat was definately off to her."

Mrs. Shatner now has the informal nickname of E-Liz.

Again from Trips.."He [Shatner] played most of the game with a camera crew (3 cameras and the support crews) it was hard for him to sneak around at all. He did ditch the crew at one point which was very cool but also caused quite a comotion. They didn't get ditched anymore for the game."

At the start, we had teams to hit the temple hard and push the train-side tape. We pushed the gullie right up to the back of what seemed to be a Borg/Klingon fight. We still did not have a medic (oops).

We quickly noticed that the speedball players would squeeze the bunker (Tree, rock, etc) in response to fire and leave themselves open to someone else from a different direction.

Also, the ref's were to use to speedball and on top of players positions instead of wandering. This gave away several hidden players.

Further early on, the Borg were spread out down trails every 20 yards. So effectively, you were fighting only two Borg at a time.

The early push through the woods left people holding a lot of ground without much action. During the initial reinsertions, the players would come at us in tight lines from one direction.

Another advantage came from people not use to elevation differences which got several people walking in the gullie wacked. Several "black shirts" gave away their positions when the bush around them was sprayed with paint, even when we could not see them.

Clay at one point held off 20-30 guys in the gullie by himself because they kept coming straight at him. No one got up and walked around his position to shoot him from the side or back. He sent several people back to reinsert.

Darkstorm
09-02-2002, 04:58 AM
Clay at one point yelled to Shatner to tell him the insertion window was open. Shatner made everyone run for it. Cameras and crews, everyone loved it (well the players did).

The guys that were on CO2 could throw a lot of paint but soon the second airfill station was found with the 3000+ fills.

At one point, the lines began to thin because noone was around and folks were bored. Only one guy was at the flag station, all the action seemed to focus on the town and one guy was guarding the flag. A Gullie push was held up by four or five players.

The tank coming through the trail in the woods caught most of the federation players, scenario included, off guard.

Hi
The tanks did not have cut off switches. And if we did we were told to remove them. It is saftey issue and if a tank looses power on a hill do to the switch being activated. It will loose steering, brakes and no power to keep climbing and must now roll back whitch is hard when you cant see out the back as well as the front.
The Tank inspector did a good job making sure all tanks were structualy safe. All tanks had to chrono all mounted guns and internal guns. Once they passed that they were givin thier orange sticker and allowed to play. The only thing that the tank drivers might of had go wrong that could be considerd a bad point was the fact that I got into Bedlam with my tank and found out that I was not suppose to be thier. Oh well.

Back in Town a number of the Feds had a great time playing with some eventual intense action.

Midway was a Fed player in a bright red jersey that would keep getting to the back of the town and come in behind people and start barrel tagging and shooting.

TB (I believe) was the one who got himself "captured" by the Klingons, only to get himself escorted to the Klingon based which helped complete a mission (details unknown).

Some of the Fed Tanks were to big to be allowed to go any place significant, or had velocity problems. Something that haunted us early in the game. The guys in the shuttle lost their AC but continued to play.

Darkstorm

While earlier we had walked the mission to radio in the number and not seen a single Borg or Klingon things got bad QUICK. The Klingon/Borg alliance started forming at the WORST possible time for the Feds.

Radar was one of the early Medics from the start and by this time we had almost run him to death, when the push through the town and to our treeline started. Backup, out of paint or air, acted as a moving bunker for Radar.

As the treeline fell and our insertion zone was under fire the lack of proximty to a staging area meant a lot were tired, needed paint, just needed a break, or had left the field and did not know what had happened.

The scenario players tried to push the woodline, but all of the Medics had left the field.

At one point the Fed zone was under fire from two tanks.

Darkstorm

"Black shirts" were getting into the backlot of our base, the grasslands, a couple of the Borg players who were back there made a major mistake of engaging in a fire fight. The prop the Borg desperately needed was under the Bus they were using as a bunker.

Judster, Midway, myself and a couple of other players took a long time to searched the entire grasslands and did not find another Borg player. That was surprising.

As the battle was fought on the farside of our base, E-Liz was said to have been on the FRONT lines of it.

One of the Medics was new, so some of the experienced players played bunker for him. He even managed to medic Viper.

The game was an absolute blast guys! Thanks for coming out and playing with us. I appreciate the way that you guys stuck to it all the way through.

We Texans are just now getting home, left Joliet at 1pm yesterday... I wanted to make sure I got this posted before I take a nice long Labor Day nap.

I had a great time and met a lot of great players, some tourney, some scenario and some brand new to the game. I wanted to thank Tom for sticking around and signing autographs at the Casino Saturday night. I meant what I said Tom, the Level 10 is the best paintball money I have ever spent. It is the world's most polite bolt, it kindly asks the ball to move to the front of the barrel and if the ball isn't ready, it simply backs up and gives the ball some space. Then it simply asks again... This weekend makes 3 cases in 2 weeks without a single break coming out of RT serial number 220!!!

I had some hairy moments when some of you would look at me funny as I walked down the tape line without shooting at anyone but most everyone was very cool about leaving once they realized I wasn't dead and my barrel was in their back. To the guy that put a ball on me from 2 feet away and then nearly got himself killed to make sure I was ok, thanks! And don't worry about it, I know the risk I take when I go walking through enemy lines without a care in the world.

Anytime you guys want to come down to Texas and play let us know and we'll be sure to roll out the carpet for you.

Thanks again,

As the Klingons pushed into through the back tapeline, Mancow somehow ended up back there. A number of Texans were in the back with Judster playing front in the high grass of a hill. A few other players walked backwards away from the "Blackshirts" and would lead players to him that he would shoot three at a time.

Having had this spotters shot out, I watch as Judster faded into the high grass and waited. Klingons walked past him and took the hills past him. He was behind their lines.

Then here come the cameras. Still noone sees him as a camera man picks up on him and starts filming the grass. But noone pays attention, STILL. Mancow starts boom out orders and saying his name. At this point in time, Mancow is 12 yards from Judster and below him. All of the generals "body guards" are in a tight line because everyone is getting camera time. Judster is just about to stand up and put a 100 rounds into Mancow when the people start yelling CEASE FIRE.

MANCOW is the luckiest man alive. The whole cease fire thing saved his butt. OR he would have been wickedly hosed while on camera.

Back at the insertion zone, Tom Kaye drives up. Pacman goes to barrel tag but is told there is a cease fire.

At one point, during the pitch battle Shatner was beamed out to personally complete a mission on another part of the field.

Radar kept raving about the Borg army and how you all helped him get a kid with a sprained ankle off the field.

A Fed player actually got JJ to hand him a Borg mission card, but the Borg saw it happen and got it back.

Heather(?) the CPX camera person, took tons of pictures on the field, and got shot up doing it, she is the coolest.

Manike barrel tagged me at the pump tourney for the paint.

Shatner spoke for an hour at the Star Trek convention about paintball.

The Texans got autographs from Tom Kaye, next thing you know Darkstorm will have a lvl 10. Hmmmm?

I remember the bus being about where the blue circle was in three and half foot high grass. Most of us had not been told it was there either, probably because scenario players watch for people "guarding" places. We'll get you more details. Isn't it amazing the things that "almost" happened.

AGD

After finding the Borg relic (oscilloscope) our team prop hound (TB) stashed it under the bus/RV in the open field behind our command structure. I wish I knew who the Borg player was that had made it all the way back there because he deserves some recognition.

The grass was just over waist high and our security detail sent three Texans on a patrol through the field. Of course they didn't tell us why, they just sent us out to find out if there was anything sneaking up behind us.

I took the tapeline, Radar had the center and Darkstorm took the top of the field. As we are clomping along not making any secret out of our approach (typical Texan style  ) a volley of shots rings out from my left. I see Radar throw his gun up in the air and start walking back to base. At this point I have no idea where the shots came from or how many players there are hiding in the grass. All I see is Darkstorm at the top of the field moving toward me gun up on a bus in between us. I'm thinking great somebody is sniping from inside the bus, we're going to have to clear it and I have no grenades... Just as I start considering my options I see a blur of black burst out from under the back of the bus and sprint for the tape line. The poor guy never had a chance, Dark and I were perfectly set on the angle and cut his route with a pair of garden hose looking streams of paint. Unfortunatly for the Borg player he picked the one of us that was carrying a pump pistol instead of one of the other two that had Level 10 mags :D.

Within five minutes Radar comes running back from the recent insertion (timing your eliminations is everything in paintball ;) ). He looks inside, around and under the bus to try and figure out what one lone Borg was doing out here so far from the collective. That is when we found the Borg relic that had been stashed earlier by our teammate. We called it in on the radio and were told to put it back where it was and forget we ever saw it. It was moved to a more secure location later before being used to garner another 100 points for the Federation at the end of the day.

I followed the trail that the Borg player must have used to get into that field. It was overgrown with those briar thorns and those trees with the one-inch spikes. Not to mention the 20 or 30 spider webs that collected on the front of my goggles... It took me 30 minutes of working through that garbage to follow the back tape around to El Centro where I came across a group of 5 players on security detail. I of course being the "seasoned" scenario player shot the medic first. Two shots and move to a new location is what I had always been told. Just as I move to the new location and lose sight of the medic I had eliminated I hear him call for, you guessed it, another medic. At this point, again, being a "seasoned" scenario player  , I knew this was going to go badly... Five on one with them having a pair of medics isn't just bad odds, its certain death... Sure enough, I was dispatched just as quickly as the Borg player that had tried the same thing with us. I do admire his drive though, if I hadn't been so curious about how he had gotten to our base there is no way I would have tried that.

Thanks again for a great game. I hope you all had as much fun as we did and we look forward to seeing you all at more scenarios in the future. We are planning a trip to EMR for Memorial Day 2003. We welcome any AO player that would like to join us!

Hiya y'all. Was glad to see so many AOers there even if I was on the Federation side. Sorry but when it all came down to it I've known Shatner and Star Trek longer then I have Tom and AGD.

One correction though Gunga. I paid $450 for the Maxim mag with the William Shatner autograph and $3500 for the 24kt gold and chrome Action Marker pump marker! The purple C&C E-Mag Extreme did go for 3k though.

As for everyone making fun of us Federation folks, at least we were not content to cower in the woods or hide behind the buildings of Bedlam. We were willing to hurl ourselves upon the enemies and take glory from the field!

Just kidding. I'm not even sure who ended up with the highest score at the end of the day. I was just really glad to be there.

DarkStorm - I has some fun toward the end of the day mauling your insertion point :)

I started by crawling from the bottle corner of the hill/meadow into the middle of the field. I wacked a few players as I crawled in and up the hill.

Then you all had a weak insertion maybe 15-20 people. I mauled a good portion of that and had to beat feet because the few i missed and the few in the woods to my left were getting a weee bit close with the fire. I waited about 2 minutes and re crawled even further up the hill laying in the low grass until your main insertion.

Oh my, if I had a full tank and harness the carnage would have been awsome. I think I scored about 20-30 bodies then I had to reload, when that happened people finally saw me moving and laid some fire on me. I loaded and got the pod shot and got some more elims before finally running out of paint/air and luck and got a nice double tap google shot from someone.

I grin on my face was huge as I saw the wall of people in red shirts walking off with me :)

You feddies flat out "played" the game on us. Vipers van should be on the playing field, not safe in the parking lot.

But I still had a blast.

Radar kept raving about the Borg army and how you all helped him get a kid with a sprained ankle off the field.
After the our Borg Medic helped the kid hop out to the edge of the clearing we had to have the dead provide cover while he worked on him (luckly he was an EMT). The battle just kept raging and paintballs were still coming in on us. After he got his shoe off and wrapped the ankle I asked the kid how much he weighed. He said 100 pounds so I thought the two of us could at least get him to the netting so we could get our masks off and get out of the firefight. We held each other's arms and got to the top of the hill when we were both too tired to make it all the way to the road. We decided to rest when the bus showed up. When it finally manuvered around the camera crane we put him in, started driving out and when we hit the road we see the medical team driving up. They turned around and we followed them back.

Oddly enough, while I was providing cover for the injured kid, I never received a hit. Of course, I was wearing my Texas flag sandana. I'll assume no one wanted to find out what happens when a Texan is hit after he is already out.:D

Also, Darkstorm; at the staging area, JJ had been yelling for a Borg to transport a mission to the field. All the Borg were ignoring him, so, not having my Federation jersey on, I decided to "volunteer" for the mission.

Kendrick (member of the Borg, and successful bidder for the custom e-mag, ser # NCC1701A) saw what I was doing and decided to accept the mission his-own-self. Besides, JJ stated that I needed to have my jersey on, in order to accept the mission card.

Yep, almost pulled that one off...........

More facts to add to the list. The Feds DID NOT have a countermeasures van at the game. They DID NOT jam any frequencies. Viper cleared the air in another thread.

She was expecting paintball markers everywhere and us to be playing in the backyard. (I have mentioned the idea of a sup air field back there). Anyway drop me a e-mail if anyone is in town, you are always more than welcome to my house.

In case anyone is wondering:

A) the pictures of me laying next to Jon took place after the following happened: I come back to the room, and its locked, so I knock. Mango opens the door, and before I can react he grabs my arm and hurls me onto the bed. Problem is, Jon is laying on the bed on his stomach. I went flying right on top of Jon. I rolled off, and asked if he was ok. He wasn't :)

B) The pictures of me standing in the open doorway, and you can just make out some dirt feet, is where Mango tried to crawl back into the room. He was wearing all black against a dark carpet, so you can't really see him too well. You can tell in one picture that I have my foot on him trying to pin him down.

As for the pictures around poor Fred, well, I plead the 5th.

Fred - it was all wyn's idea...he is the ring leader.

My idea???? He's the one who invited his buddies over (total grief) and passed out before they got there. I was just making sure they got a chance to see him.

Actually... Manike technically invited them over on my phone... and they called me just after I left the other room... and then showed up (after I told them I was passing out...)

I've been lookin for a good excuse to go to Space downtown... I hear that place is one wild party...

I think we can arrange to have some fun...
