Wow. LONG 2 days of 'balling.

Friday/Saturday--

I drive up with my friends Friday night and hit our campsite around 3AM. We pitch tents and hit the sack immediately (if not sooner). 5:30AM came really quickly and after the slow start in the cold Pocono Mountain Weather, we get to Skirmish by 6:30 after leading a train of cars/trucks/SUVs to the fields.

We set up our camp and started w/ breakfast & coffee. We registered (which was VERY quick and efficient) and hung our signal flag. Within about an hour, Dropkick1 and Misfit come over to say hi. Wickster and his lovely wife also come by to say hi. At around 10AM, 3 out of the 4 of us grab paint and head in. Not a whole lot of good stories, but some really good firefights. My fave was taking "Hood in the Woods" AKA "The Hood." It's a paintburning field and I went through 4 Speedpods and a hopper in about 20 minutes. The rest of the 2 hours I spent near that field was yelling like a madman, rallying the troops and waving our flag like a scene from Braveheart. A good day ended with Yellow beating Blue by a significant point spread. (Especially good considering we were down 50 players from Blue) The paintball eating contest and costume contest went on, but we left before the Wet T-Shirt Contest. Glenn also stopped by before we left in an attempt to tech his Level 10 problem. (Still not fixed. Has pressure on the trigger rod, but it won't fire. AGD tech ideas?)

Campfire building and dinner was on the agenda, as well as a few cocktails with Dropkick and Misfit at the campsite. The campfire was also the spot of our casualty. Me. I had my head on my lap and my buddy decides to toss a small rock at me. JUST as it leaves his hand, I sit up and it hits me SQUARE in the eye. (Not face, eye...) Anyway, that kinda sucked and it hurts even now. Oh well. Price you pay for not paying attention... At least I can tell people I got into a barfight ;)

Sunday--

We get up around 6:30 and break camp. Pack the trucks and head over to the fields. We set up our makeshift tent and set out blankets. Breakfast/coffee & nap time ensues. Dropkick and Misfit park next to us and join breakfast. We head in for some mischief and work the 'Sup Air field. It kinda seemed that that's all we played on all weekend. Anyway, after a few rounds in, we head back for lunch and for me to switch to a smaller Lvl 10 carrier. (Small leak). Dropkick, myself and my friend Sean head in for insertion with about 6 other guys. We hit the Air Field, but see a tank and about 70 blue team members walking in. So we take up a position inside the treeline. Let's just say that once we heard the words "Barrel Plugs out", the paint started flying. We gave as good as we got, and the tank gunner had about 3 hoppers emptied onto his back before we left. I get gogged (no warp feed- still being modded) so Dropkick and I head out.

Sit around the camp for another half hour resting and cleaning. We grab the last of our paint and air, head for the insertion point and hit the airball field again. This turns into the last fight of the day. 12 yellow versus 50 blue. We hold them for about 30 minutes. Blue starts pushing forward on the yellow when all of a sudden, from the back end of the field comes 200+ yellow players. The battle ends quickly and yellow celebrates yet another sweeping victory. All in all, a great weekend event.

At last count, we had 1800 people in game. Not record breaking but still quite good. No air supply problems and great reffing. To be honest though, it was more of a huge rec game with some scenario ideas thrown in- tanks & flag/hourly field possession.

Vendors- National Paintball Supply, WDP, Tippmann & Smart Parts. (a few smaller vendors but I don't remember their names.

The best part? Seeing LOTS of 'Mag players on the fields. We (Dropkick, Misfit & myself) spread the glory that is Lvl 10, and I showed at least 10 people what it could do, including several of the senior judges. Tom, expect a few orders!

yeah, it was definitley a good weekend.

misfit and i leave at about 11pm and reach the camp site around 12AM so we drive through and set up. we set up the good old tiny hiking stove and made some ramen noodles. mmm good. hit the sac around 1, still awaiting dayspring and his friends to arrive(don't cvome till 3, hehe). wake up about 6 am(way to early) and leave around 630, reach the field around 7 and proceed to register. goes quickly as stated above and then to go find Nick and his crew. we find the flag, say whats up and go back to our car which was like a row back and make some breakfast, gear up and head out arounnd 1030, like nick said, nothing to spectacular happened, just a lot of fun. skip the day, we stay around for all the after events(especially the wet t-shirt, not bad at all) and leave around 730 back to camp.

here's a good story, while on the way back to the campsite, going through the wooded roads i hit a deer with my car, we're both alright, but my cars hood isn't in good condition, but everything else is fine.

campsite was fun, chillin with the crew, putting a few mike's hard lemonades(ooh good), then misfit and i head back to our site and go to sleep.

Sunday:
don't get up till like 7(hehe) and pack up the site, at the field by 830, pull up next to the crew and gear up and head out. great fun, we really worked well together as a team. played the sup air quite a bit and its so awesome, not really much else to say that nick hasn't said.

overall a good weekend hanging with our new friends(hi april, shawn, and jeff), left around 430 and blah, its time to clean the gear. as of late at skirmish, i've been noticeing more mags around, kept getting comments about my warp and micro emag set up.

castle keep III here we come

The night before saturday I slept over a friends house for carpool convience. We left at got there around 9:00 AM. However, luckily for us, some ******** rammed our car from behind and did some damage. We pulled into the field and the person who hit us did so too. From then on it was just chaos for everyone. Ryan, the driver stayed with the car and the guys while waiting for the police to arrive.

Myself, Brandon, and Eric went out to register and play. When I gassed up my retro mini mag I soon found out that it was not firing. I had pressure behind the trigger (as Dayspring stated) but no shots were being fired. I walked around looking for the AGD setup and was dissapointed to find out they werent there. The website said theyd be there so I wasnt very pleased. Something should be done to ensure that this doesnt happen again. I then began to walk around looking for anyone with a mag who knows how to fix a lv10 problem.....# of people found = 0. Then I went to the most experienced tech (for mags that is) and asked him to help me out. He didnt know what the lv10 was and just looked at a few of my orings. Since I couldnt find help I went back to trying to fix it myself with no luck. I tried this from 9:00 till 12:00.

As for Eric, he was having cocker problems and couldnt fix them either. He was at the same tech I was at. To make a long story short....it took him all day to fix it and by the end of the day it still wasnt working (though all he finally needed was a ball detent). He didnt play at all until the last 20 minutes of the game. A friend let him borrow a Spyder.

As for Brandon, well, he was the only lucky one. He played all day. Nuff said.

And for Ryan (the driver).....It took until 12:00 for the police to come and clear things up.

OK, so now its about 12:00 and I have given up on my mag. I walked around once more looking for the AOers. On my last attemp to find them I got lucky and saw Daysprings diver flag. (at that moment I almost pissed myself with joy) I went back to the car and got Ryan and we went to the AOers parking space. They tried to fix my gun but couldnt figure out the problem. Once again, Id like to thank all you guys for trying to help me out though.

I proceeded to go get a rental and me, Ryan, and the AOers hit the field. Dayspring has already described the game so I wont go into it.

We finished the day out and had a great time. Then we stayed for all the contests. The wet tshirt contest was almost as exciting as the paintball. We all loved it. I grabbed a chair and staked out a good spot before the crowd game. During the contest I stood on the chair to get good view. I was very pleased with myself for comming up with such a good idea lol. Then we went home.

So all in all....we got in a car accident, two of us played half the day. One of us played a few minutes. And one played all day. I didnt get to use my gun. And neither did the kid with the cocker. However, despite all this we had a blast.

BTW, to the AOers who tried to help me.....I got my gun working today. However, I had to take the lv 10 out to do it. Im just going to mess with that later. Dayspring, remember when you tried to do it without the lv 10 and the spacer didnt fit? Well, for some odd reason, the spacer (.220) that was in my gun worked in a friends mag, and his spacer (also a .220) worked in my mag. So we switched. I wont be able to talk to you about it in the next week or so because tomorrow Im moving to Montana.

Dayspring

Glad you got the marker working. And the reason why my spacer didn't work was because I had a .215 in mine. ;). Now all we need is Tom to get the Tech Class going so we can all tech our markers! (hint, hint...)

And BTW- MONTANA?!

*EDIT*-- Early morning lack of coffee spelling errors.

all time great moves- ken shooting a guy in the foot,
all time worst move- ken shot me in the back of the head form a foot away, and asking, did that hit you?
when it is you vs a tank, shot teh turret guy so much he cant turn to look at you, and when he tells the driver to go your way, shoot the windsheild, so he cant see

I almost forgot about that one.

A yellow reinsertion ran into this one lonely blue character. I went up and barrel tagged him and said- "you're out. Barrel plug please." At which point he said, "well put your plug in, you're dead too." Um, no. The exchange went on with us explaining the rules of surrender-or-die or barrel tagging. Meanwhile, all 15 of us are backing away to outside the 10ft. limit to shoot him. Ken (Dropkick1) took matters in his own hands and says You're out. At which point, he shoots him in the foot. "Problem solved."

Great stories!! Glad you guys had fun. It's bringing back Shatnerball memories for me, I definetly want to do another scenario game. Shatnerball was my first, and definetly won't be my last. :)

My wife and I had a great time at the big game. We met other automag owners and enjoyed the company- Thanks Dayspring.

Before the game, my wife was eager to start, so we left before Dayspring's group. At game's start, we followed some toerh players right into the swamp (not smart). We started sinking (in over the top of my gov't jungle boots) and quickly found ourselves surrounded by blues who weren't stuck in the mud. We got hit soon, then as per the rules, we found a close by ref to punch our hit card. The problem with that was that as soon as punched, you are back in the game, and my wife and I were in the middle of god-only-knows how many blues. Seconds later, were were out again. This time my wife asked a ref to take us to some yellows- it took forever (where were any?). Eventually we made it to where yellow was pushing "the Hood" and spent most of the day battling there.

At one point we ran out of paint, so we decided to charge at thew blues while running back and forth while screaming and waving our hands over our heads. We did, and other yellows charged with us! As I ran, I ran right into a chest-high field tape (rope):) I pulled it 10 feet before it sprung me back like a cartoon! I went back under, and got pretty far before I got nailed.

Overall, we had a great game, but i will mention a few things i didn't like in another post.

the ken story was a little funnier because ken said look and pointed his gun at the guys shoe, and the guy is looking at his shoe like the laces are untied or something, and then he shot him and said now you hit. i thought that guy was gonna deck him or something.
here is a pic of me, guess which one i am

As I already said, we had a great time at the game, but there were some problems.

1 The elimination rules. When you got hit the first 2 times, you found a ref to punch your card. Then you are back in the game. On factors of 3, you had to leave the game and reinsert at the top or bottom of the hour. This keeps people in the game (and using lots of paint), but makes a push hard- you eliminate someone, and they come back 10 seconds later, so you shoot more paint to get him again, and again.

2. Before the game, there was a very long chrono line. We were told we could just start and we would get chronoed on the field by refs. I din't see anybody get chronoed on the field. I know chronoing this many people is hard, but it needs to be done.

To continue our story, my wife also took out a yellow with friendly fire- she was shooting over someone who put his hand up- thwack!- sorry!

When we were leaving sat night, we looked for Dayspring, but he wasn't at his car, so we left out air-fill pass on the blanket between the two trucks- hope you found it dayspring!

Thanks to dayspring and we really enjoyed meeting everyone. We hope we can make castle keep. Even if we don't we hope to play again soon with everyone!

Oh, one last thing- so everyone knows other have gun problems too... I kept double-feeding paint, which broke many and made my accuracy suck. I switched to my crown point barrel which stopped most of it, but everyone could hear me shoot- PING:p.

they didn't actually swallow the paint, all they had to do was chew up every ball in there mouth and make sure all of them were broken, it was rather disgusting.

oh yeah, what ever happened with that guy that ran out of the 2nd floor of the one house in the hood in the woods, i think i heard, but now i forget. i know i put about a hopper into him from about anywhere b/t 5-20 feet.

In talking to the "Ultimate Judge" for the event Kurtis, I found out he was apparently removed from the game and escorted off the property. Cheaters never win! (And it helps to know the judges.)

BTW- two of them told me I should go up and become a judge there b/c I can yell really loud. AKA- I have a big mouth.

It was a fun 2 days alright!

one of the camera crew caught me on the 2nd day, here:

http://www.bored383.com/paintball/skirmish/day2.jpg

I had a blast - showed off the Level10 to a bunch of folks, and had a blast!

that red shelled paint was very undersized - rolled right through a friends .679 freak insert. The green shell was much better. I requested the green shell paint when I bought more.

I finished the day on Sunday shooting about 1000psi of air at the blues and keeping a dozen guys occupied till I got flanked. I saw the guy coming and got my hands up before I got shot though ;)

Both the red and green paint fell right thru my barrel. Even my J&J I really didn't think it was that small. I found this out today after cleaning my equipment out. I forgot to put my nub on and the paint just rolled out. Well that explians the range problem me and my friend had.

Hey Bored383 what type of barrel do u have?

Dayspring
09-12-2002, 09:14 PM
I didn't have any problem with the paint. I was running a Dye Aluminum 10". Might have been interesting to try a Freak and see what the size was. I know Misfit was. Ask him...

I was using a BOA barrel - smoothbore brass with chrome

It worked pretty good.

With the red paint I had a heck of a time chrono'ing in . . . I was getting 80fps swings in velocity. The green shelled paint was a lot more consistent

misfit

i was using the silver .679 insert the whole weekend shooting the red paint. on occosion a few balls would roll through, but for the most part it was ok. on a side note the last few cases that i have bought,(local field, etc) have been extreamly small bore. 32 deg comp, diablo inferno, and the skirmish stuff has regualarly rolled through even teh smallest insert.

yay for smart parts, i tried to squigee my freek with kens retarted squigee and in broke and got stuck in my insert. the guy at the smartparts trailer, gave me a new insert on the spot, no charge.
