Did anyone catch the reporting of the AGD billboard by PB2X in their October 2002 Issue:

"Driving to the IAO fields in Butler, PA, I couldn't help noticing the full size size billboards on Rt 422. Kingman and Raven had great billboards, but Airgun Designs' really bothered me. I'm sorry to see Tom Kaye and company resort to the naked chick ads. Tom, it's the quality of the gear that sells your product. If sales are down, change your gear, not your ads. That's my opinion for what it's worth." by Jay Smackowski (PB2X Oct 2002 Page151)

I don't know, but question the taste of the billboard, not the products.

Also, where is the report on the "Angel's Heaven", WGP models and the Kingman/Raven models? Bit biased here?

I'm really suprised to hear all the negative opinions from people. To me its just a clever ad, definatly grabs your attention and gets a chuckle. I certainly dont think it is offensive. But this has been discussed before(alot). Anyway, I thought it was a great billboard.

atupid jay smackowski, aways talkin smack. Tom it was a great billboard, dont let it get you down. it grabbed alot of attention, even my self, and my rather uptight father(one with me on the tour, remember you set up us the tour at the field museam also) thought it was a great add

Don't be talkin smack about our Raven girls! Black Cell will have to come to your house and smack you around if you keep that up... hehe.

Believe me I am not worried about it. This was the first negative complaint during or since IAO.

I didn’t like the billboard at all and yes it grabs your attention, but one of the reasons I like AGD is because there advertising is clean. And the product speaks for itself. I was VERY disappointed at AGD's decision for the billboard even after we voted it down.:(

Not EVERYONE voted it down. I believe the majority of the people liked it. Only a few people (who type ALLOT  ) did not like it. :p

LOL Too funny. Actually A LOT MORE DID NOT LIKE IT THAN TYPED ON THE FORUMS. How do you like them apples? ;)

I talked to MANY people about the Billboard, on and off AO, and guess what…. almost all of them thought it was inappropriate at best, and the comments went downhill from there.

And for people not hearing a lot of negative comments about it? That makes me laugh even more. You know what? AOL used those same words about their Customer Service issues, slow connection speeds, porn, other SPAM, bad chat rooms, etc. And we all know that THEY have no problems and noone complains about them either… right?

So please do not act as if the “popular” decision was made to use that billboard, or claim that only a few outspoken people thought it was not fine while the rest of the world thought it was. This is not how it went down. But I know that those who thought it was a good thing need to keep convincing themselves of this… and this includes Tom ;).

Fine, he used it. But in spite of what Tom or anyone else thinks, the truth is that he disappointed a good many people with that decision. If you are not one that was disappointed, fine, and you are entitled to your opinions. But keep in mind that the rest of us are too… Neither is “the bad guy”, we just don’t see eye to eye on this issue…. Period. :)

here we go again.
Sharley, that is strictly opinion on how many people liked it and how many didn't. I got a lot of fed back all the way up here and very few were negative, I guess its just more of where you are and how the society around handles things like that. But you can't say that alot of people didn't post that they disagreed with it without also saying that alot of people didn't post who did. Its all a matter of what side your on. no heat intended

sex sells, it's proven.

The ad's pretty smart...

I don't think this is a morality contest.. it's about selling products. I don't think that ad is any worse than say if you go to www.jtusa.com and they've got links all over the place to see "bon-bon".

Plus, I showed this to my girlfriend and she thought it was a funny and smart ad.

My uninvited opinion:D

Am I a real fan of the ad? No. Would it grab my attention driving down the street? Yes (hey I am male). The fact that PB2X mentions it means that it did get noticed. That is half the battle in advertising isn't it?

When I first saw the ad (online I didn't go to IAO) I thought it was in poor taste. Then I realized that I was being an uptight prude and that this was only paintball after all.:) It isn't a big deal and seems to have caught peoples attention. Unlike most paintball ads with women in them it actually is clever and uses her to draw attention to the benefit of the product (lower profile)

With that rant I'll see if I can actually get back to sleep.

Please let's not start another discussion on the billboard. My point was how dare PB2X question the quality of AGD's product line. I would dearly love a one on one speed ball game against this Jay S. It would be interesting to put my Rt Lx with a warp against whatever he brings.

Remember "Quality always shoots straight.":D

Well not getting into one side or the other but Jays comments sure sound like he has been cruising our Forum looking for a stone to pick up and to throw. Surely they are similar to some arguments put forth. Do not rule out the possibility his convictions on his argument are mostly personal and not how he may feel about the Billboard. Not that he may not be sincere but they look rather "copied" in a way. I am suspicious.

I think John or Josh writes that column, unless I am mistaken.

Both of them have been known to poke their heads in here before.

Where's the smiley indicating a joke? Or was that other thread BEFORE IAO? I'll have to go check.

That other thread was well before IAO happened.

Toms right, I didn't hear a single complaint about the board at IAO, the few comments I heard were "Its cool" or "About time AGD advertised"

ok, baisically Jay is playing favoritism. It is ok for other companys to do it, but if one company wants to try it, it isnt ok? whats up with that? i went to the jt website and bon bon gets pretty riskay!(yum bon bon) Apparently jay had succeded in his colum, since it is about getting people riled up. i think we should just let bygones be bygones, as it proly isnt up any more, and probabally wont be ever again

Why didn't you ask her to re-enact her billboard picture? I am sure anyone there would have lent you their marker....with a Warp ON IT!!!!! :p

Actually the more I think about it the more I find this Billboard to be extremely sexist!

Tom to be fair next time you need to have Manike and Veronica on the Billboard without clothes on and with the hoppers properly positioned!:D :)

Very valid point… to an extent. That ad that you posted was an ad, in a paintball magazine, right? And the article was talking about a billboard in view of the general public, right? One might argue that almost anything can be “appropriate” in the right setting or circumstances, and that you are now trying to compare apples and oranges….. both are fruits, but you can’t make an apple pie with oranges. ;)

Wow. That must have taken some digging. That's the Classic Intimidator. Yes, people in glass houses should not be throwing stones! Especially considering that PB2X is published from the same building as NPS's national headquarters.

As for quality, an NPS employee told me that if you play with a Timmy in the rain, bring an extra board. How's that for quality! Again Glass House & Stones!!!

BWAAAHHAHAAAHHHAAAAA!!!!!

If there is one thing I can't stand it is self righteous hypocrites. I must admit, however, that the ad is very eye catching. Oh well. Maybe next IAO billboard:D

Veronica should keep the heels on though ;) and I'll need a hopper, warpfeed and 88cu inch tank...

The ad is good. Got some extra press even. Next time get even more racey. Airbrushed nudes. Paint their faces with goggles on then have the photos taken without the goggs so you only see paint where vent holes were.. Make some slogan eluding to the masterpiece being painted with an EMag.

Get more press. Get folks thinkin' AGD. Even if they hate the campaign, they'll pay attention to the gear. If they like the way it works, they'll buy it.
