I found out yesterday that I can get my guns powder coated for free from a friends brother that owns a body shop. Im gonna get it done black. My only question is how well does it hold up ? does it scratch or chip easy ?

in my experince, if it's done right it'll hold up nicely.

Power coating is (in my opinion) better than paint, since it takes alot more force to remove it. My friend makes bike frames, and he powder coats them since it is more durable than paint. Rock on IB.

ever try to screw anything in thats been powdercoated? i know it sounds great in theory, but powdercoating adds volume as well as color. unless you get an exceptional job, or the guy stays away from the frame screw area, then dont do it. what difference does it make if your pretty little mag gets a scratch? put a sticker over it. powdercoating can completely fill threads.

there seems to me like a simple fix to the thread problem place a screw in the holes then get it podercoated remove the screws and your threads are still untouched in theory anyway ? anyone think this will work ?

sounds like it would work. youre gonna have to use force to get it off and file down the torn powdercoating it leaves behind, but otherwise a good plan.
