Post your favorite type of car and why.

I like american muscle because we have a muscle car in the family ( no joke )

67 Camaro RS/SS
383 ( 350 bored over )
Aluminum heads, Roller Rocker Arms, Roller Cam
Holley Carb, High Rise intake manifold, Racing Crank,
Fluid Damper, Torque Converter, Racing pistons
Racing Transmission

All this adds up to around 400+ on the back wheels and this is w/out the nos

Weve won two car shows with it to :) ( its not mine either, my dads )

i'm muscle all the way. i love Mustangs, Camaro's, corvettes, and trans am's and most any otherm uscle car. i currently own an '89 mustang which i love, and when i move i plan on buying either a newer (liek a 93) GT mustang, or a z28 Camaro, as i really like the look of camaro's, and for the price are a steal. my dream muscle car, however, is a 1965 (red of course) Mustang, i'd basically love to steal the one that the AO member "HEAT" has, it really is a beautiful car in the pics he's posted. so in conclusion: GO DOMESTICS!!!!

I will be the first one to admit (with no shame) that I am a fan of low-cost foreign cars. While I understand that they won't really hold up against more expensive American muscle cars, they pack a great bang for their buck.

I like modern and fast. American muscle cars dont fall into both catagories. Some imports do, or to word it better, some imports have the potential to. I also love all the high class european cars.

But old finicky american cars? No thanks.

I like both! I love my uncle's 68 stingray and I loved the Japanese sports cars for the 1990's. BUT, I will always hate ricey cars. I know you mean Japanese imports but you shouldn't reffer to all Japanese cars, good or bad, as rice. Rice cars = immitations of real Japanese sports cars!

Im a modern muscle fan and old school muscle fan. I want a new Z28 or T/A. I used to have a '72 Formula 400 small block. That car was cool.

This of a pic of what it looks like when they are nice(not mine). Mine was a beater.

I prefer the LBC's (Little British Car) or other european classics. I'm in the market for an early 70s Porsche 911, a mini, and have a 1973 MGB/GT.

...and I have a truck to tow it when it breaks down. :D

There is only one american muscle car that does fall into modern and fast, the Corvette. They still don't have porche interior quality but its still nice. And they are still faster than almost anything under $300,000 (well the Z06 is). The Corvette 6 is commint out in a two years and it is going to be alot nicer, and alot faster. The base engine is going to put wout around 400 hp versus the current 360 hp. The Z06 will follow two years after the base C6, which will probally put out around 450hp but nothings for sure yet.

Precursor to muscle cars: '59 Galaxie with 292 Y block V-8. Gonna try to get a 352 to put in it, give it 360 hp with no other mods.

i love anything that looks good or goes fast

by the way, a 383 is a stroked 350 not a bored 350. bored is increasing the size of the cylinder. stroking is increasing the distance the piston travels up and down the cylinder, or stroking is what i do with a computer and a bottle of lotion;)

But I'll settle for a '71 'Cuda with any engine in it, I'll build my own 340 6-pack. I could care less if the #'s match.

For me, it's a VL Calais Turbo. Fully worked, T66 or T88 turbo, big mother of a front mount intercooler and all the internals done to flow around 7-800 hp or more. Nice big Chrome rims, custom paint and a nice big stereo.
Yes it'll be more a show car than a daily driver, but if I actually had one I wouldn't be complaining. If I could post a pic of one I could, but I haven't worked out how to. :( Some help would be appreciated.

hihihi... a 350 bored over to make a 383 would be a sight to see.... I think you mean a 350 stroked?

PS most automatice cars have a torque converter. Te few that don't aren't in running condition anymore :D

I'm a fan of the v-8 rumble. imports are fancy stuff, and they are getting respectable 1/4 mile times now and then, but the ol' "fart can" just isn't as satisfying as a good V-8 rumble.

Seriously though, that crease in the middle of the hood is just way too much. The lines are too busy. If I want a nice expensive British car, I'm going with the Aston Martin Vanquish!:D

manike
10-02-2002, 01:48 PM
Tuscan lines too busy? Me thinks you need to work in a design studio to understand what's 'busy'... Most TVR's (except Speed Twelve) are the epitomy of what's NOT busy...

I've seen the new Aston Vanquish and it is gorgeous. But Aston's are just silly money. Quarter of a million dollars ish.

Synreal, the Exige is a stunning drive! as is the Elise sport (a friend has one).

some lucky stiff around here owns a gorgeous black elise sport 190, i saw it flying around a week or so before the dream cruise. the silly little thing looked like it was magnetically attached to the road the way he was darting across lanes.

i'm really digging the hood treatment of the tvr tamora though, guess i'll just have to get one of each ;)

manike
10-02-2002, 02:06 PM
The Elise is a phenomenal car to drive. Next time we meet I'll tell you about the time I took one for a test drive :D It sticks like glue, and is so instinctive to drive... You don't realise how fast you are going... or how fast you can corner.

If a few things come together in my life I'm getting one!

I'm not convinced on the Tamara... reminds me too much of the kit cars around here. Speed Twelve would be awesome just because of it's raw agression. Cerbera for looks.

But Tuscan R... :) just wish they had a nice removeable roof set up.

You and me both. :)

The front is ok, but the rear is aweful...

The original concept models looked so much better (I worked on a few for Aerodynamics when I was with BMW) but it got watered down and ruined by the time it got to the production vehicle. Gutted.

The Exige is a sweet piece of car. I'd love one, especialy for the great price/performance ratio.

Now, on the performance side I'm a big fan of:

Skyline GT-R V-Spec(R34), 400+HP AWD coupe, turbo inline 6, king of Japanese performance. Monte Carlo eat you heart out. Soon to be a new R35, with a big V-8. This baby eats Corvette's alive.

Evolution VII, 276HP AWD Sedan, Turbo 4 (This is the Eclipse/Talon's big brother) this is the car the WRX STi wishes it was (And the WRX wishes it was an STi). The definitive performance sedan, ain't nothing in it's class drives like it does.

Holden Ute SS: Can you say El Camino crossed with a Corvette, based off the same platform as the new Grand Prix GTO.

And of course the Viper, the only true American sports car left. Sorry boys, but the Vette is merely comparable to certain performance Sedan's and Sports Coupes, the Viper plays with Supercars.

American muscle all the way!! I can respect the 'rice' cars, but only if they are done right (which very few of them are).

Anyway, here's our American muscle (actually my dad's)
1985 Camaro Z28
Engine:
350 chevy bored .030 over to 355
4 bolt mains
AFR aluminum heads (2.02 valves)
crower roller rockers
solid lifters
forged blower pistons
camshaft: 520 duration, 516 lift
steel crank
Hampton 671 blower
2.5" spacer
dual 750cfm Holleys
MSD ignition: 6AL box, blaster 2 coil, boost timing master
headers
3" dual exhaust all the way, hollowed out converters

Hooked up to:
TH400 tranny, rebuilt by competition transmission in Buffalo, NY
10" torque converter
anti-balloon plates
Denny's High Performance driveshaft
Ford 9" 4.56 posi rear end
Mickey thompson sportsman pros 21.5 X 33

It's putting out 600+ horsepower, with the blower currently 18% under. However, we get 5 miles per gallon

Plus a stereo system:
Kenwood receiver and 10-disc changer
2 sets rockford fosgate component speakers
4 10" RF subs
neon-lighted vent box for back 2 subs
2 RF amps

Here's a link to some pics (http://www.robbsclassics.org/4700.html)

Time to go against the crowd and say import:
Asia-
Acura/Honda-hmmm...I dont like RSX. NSX is ok. I loved the Integra, why OH why did they stop!
Toyota-Supra
Mazda-RX7. Rotary engines, ah what a beautiful thing. Its different, may not as be as fast as a v12 3 miles to the gallon but its a new concept like a mag and still can haul.
Kia-.....

Europe-
WRX STI. EVO's have 280+hp, but you know what so does the STI(rumored to be 280+ too). I just like the boxer setup compared to the EVO's. Plus, the WRX looks better:p

What Im going to drive until I get money for a car-
Red 1994 Dodge Caravan, what shall I do with that...

---further on STI, the EVO's have had tweaking constantly hence the further roman numerals every second! while the STI is still developing and getting its stuff in order the only thing i hate about Subaru, they are slow on getting stuff out. The round headlights, well...yeah, but you can always change that! Cosmetics are limitless these days. I take back the other comment I made. they are basically the same and is just personal preference and names.

The Tuscan TVR is beautiful :o

anyways, I love hondas.

I know you've all driven hondas, who hasnt?

hey, with good tuning, you can make 250-300 wheel horsepower (anything beyond that is just stupid for a front-wheel drive street car) on a naturally aspirated engine, with no turbo, supercharger, or nitrous.

Thats the beauty of honda. With the introduction of DOHC and VTEC, they could extract good horsepower smoothly in these small, high revving engines.

Life at 12,000 rpm. The only way I'll fly (until I can afford that way.... until then junkyard turbo for me  )

NSX is my dream car. Take it over any other.

Cops hate hondas. Especially very fast ones.

Why compare an evoII to an STI? why not just compare an evoIV or evo VII to an STI? Also, how can a WRX look better than an Evo!?!? Those round headlights make it look too cutesy. At least the Evo looks hardcore.

My cars of choice:
Asia:
Honda: Most of their type R(I MEAN REAL TYPE R, NOT THIS STICKER CRAP) line and the NSX.

Nissan: Skyline R34 even though it's extremely frontheavy. Silvia because it's just a good car. 350Z cuz... I'm a nissan fan and the Z is back!

Toyota: MR2 SW20 is a BEATIFUL car, even though it's a friggen matchbox. Can't overlook the Supra either. Also, the car I'm probably gonna buy IF I can find one, A HACHI ROKU!

Mazda: RX7, rotary cars are nice and balanced.

Europe:
Lotus: man, this company produces the car that can't die, THE ESPRIT! lol, the elise is a nice too.

TVR: I love their cars... I don't have a favorite among them.

American Muscle:

Gotta love the Viper, a classmate's dad from my old school owns one... It's purty, it's fast, and it sounds nice...
Corvette! Heh, my uncle has a 68 stingray so I've gotta love that car. It's kinda beat up and it needs a new paint job but it's still a great car.

Ok, me = done w/ list!

As most know, I like it all.

Nothing is better than seeing something done right… not half way… not almost… but done right. No matter what the application is, Muscle Car, Import, Sports Car, SUV, Pickup Truck, Exotic Car, etc. seeing it done right makes me smile and the drool begins. ;)

On the other hand it is too bad that so many DON’T do it right. :(

And if you don’t NEED it, KEEP IT OF THE DARN CAR!!!! LOL If it does not actually perform some valid function, don’t slap it on, bolt it on, glue it on, double sided tape it on, or any of the other stuff we see folks do.

I don’t get into “Mine is better than yours” either. And even less so, I don’t get into one car, car company, etc. is better than another. Like I said…. Its all good. And I laugh at folks that get worked up over what is “better” and will actually get rude about it, or down right angry…. Most of the time they will NEVER even own what they are arguing about anyways. And no matter what they think, others WILL. ;)

If you are happy with what you OWN, and it does what you need it to do….. who cares what anyone else thinks? And there is a big difference between having “pride in your ride” and being a jerk.

His best run was a 15.4  (betcha he wanted his 3kgt vr4 back!!).

What year NSX do those stats represent? NA or boosted?

Well, there is a special technique to drag racing the s2000.

I talk to people when I watch races at the dragstrip. The ones who know that you need to launch at very high rpm with the s2000 were running high 14's. The morons, who don't deserve the s2000's are running 15's, sometimes even 16's.

The nsx is the second gen motor, 1995+, when they bumped the engine .2 litre for a 20 horsepower increase.

well, you'd kinda figure the s2000 would need higher rpms... What would be the ideal launch rpm for the s2000?

also, if someone is driving an s2000 and runs 15-16's then they should be disgraced because a nissan maxima 2000 and up could beat it.

yeah and the new honda accord runs 14's like the maxima.

an ideal rpm sounds high..... but its where the powers at. 6000+ rpm. Yes, it hurts your tranny, thats why...... you don't drag race your s2000 :o

Anyways, s2000's with speedcraft turbos.... I think the company went out of business sadly..... the cars that had the turbo installed ran 12's (which is effen nice) and they did it on the stock motor.

It's not safe, knowing how much the stock motor is pushing it, at 120 hp/litre

I like the transys too. The 2002 Pontiac Trans Am with RAM air..V8, 5.6liter engine, gotta love american muscle!

Its around 360hp i think.

I think they are one of the most beastly looking cars ;) Take a look at that RAM air nostrils! :)

uhh..... you make me wonder sometimes footemps.

Why would it be funky for a s2000 to drift race?

It's like a hachi-roku, refined to the max.

50/50 weight distribution like hachi roku, inline 4 (but actually revs high for power)

I even have videos of s2000's drift racing, and they do quite well. give it time and you will see it more.

the only reason i said it was cuz it's a car built with grip driving in mind.

My Sister-n-law has one (black). Yes it is rather beefy looking.. good muscular stance.

I like them, but I am not “in love” with them. I say this because it has a few things that I don’t like much. First of which is the way you can look right in the back window to the trunk….. that is SO wrong. LOL And another is that I think they over did it with the curves… you don’t HAVE to carve up the car that much. And the back wing looks like something off of “Batman”…. I am sure their designers could have done a lot better than that.

Other than those things it is a great car. And please understand that what I pointed out were personal preference and styling issues ONLY. But how a car looks is as important to me as how it drives. I would rather drive a Camaro or (you got it) a Mustang. And of course a Corvette would be nice and I may get one when I retire (maybe), and for fun a Viper… but I don’t honestly see myself owning one.

Actually, the 2002's are 310 horse. Which is still really nice!

Also I would have to say that my other dream car is a specific one, I mean has specific as the serial number has to be exact. When my dad was 17 or 18 he was working on the GM assembly line, his job was to drive out the cars and park them in the parking lot. Well he drove the second 1957 Chevy bel aire off the line and into his parents garage (he bought it before he drove it home hehehe). It was a turquoise color two door hardtop, (no metal between the mirrors). I think it had the 258 motor, but I might be off. Well later he joined the army and was stationed in Germany, he had a choice sell the car and hope he can buy it when he got back, or keep it in a rental garage until one day when he got home. Since he was going to Vietnam after Germany he decided to sell it (not knowing if he was coming back or not). Well he made it back and tried to buy it back from the guy but the guy wouldn't sell it. So if some how I came across that car I would put all the money down that I could on it, just to see his face when i drive up the driveway and hand him the keys.

I've worked on a 4 door 57 hardtop, made it into a 2 door convertable. That was pretty impressive.

:) You're cool.

If I have the money, and probably even if i don't, i'm building two mustangs from the ground up. They'll be 69 Boss 428s. One will be jet black, HIGH gloss. One will be cherry red.

My dad will get the red one. We'll race, and every time i'll beat him and go :p

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite sure that the Boss mustangs had 429's, and the 428's were the cobra-jets. ;)

wow that's ignorant... Yeah, rice rockets and wannabe racers can't compete with muscle cars. But when you run into someone serious, I doubt you could drag agaisnt a 700 horespower nissan skyline or a 840 hp toyota supra.
