Searching around and can't find anything useful, anybody?

A regulator does just what its name says- it regulates incoming air to a certain pressure/volume (usually pressure). Basically, it lets air in until it reaches a set level, at which point, no more air is allowed into the chamber.

Paintball regulators are special because they need to have a fast recharge. (Recharge meaning how fast they can refill after discharging) Without this fast recharge, we have SHOOTDOWN- loss in velocity (the gun is fired before the preset air pressure is reached).

a regulator is usually used to adjust the pressure down to a specific level. For example your tank has an output pressure of 800psi. You could use a regulator to adjust the pressure down to say 500psi. Some markers need a lower pressure going into them to function correctly. Not as indepth as it should be, but this should get you started.

its not a magical number ;) some guns run like 100 psi or so like the matrix(very nice guns btw) and using them at high pressures is do able but highly unreccommended(can do damage potentially)

most boards (other than AGD) have a gun specific forum. Read the FAQ or maintenance thread it is usually in there. If that doesn't work, ask in the tech forum.
