Hahahaha...nice cat posing there dansim. Good work on the pumpkin, my brother once did a wolf or something, couldn't tell after it was finished. But he sat there for a while cussing, cutting with a paring knife. I just made a basic little face thingie. Oh well...cool jack-o-lantern!

I started out using Pumpkin Master tools. They were too wimpy for me so I started building my own out of ground down jig saw blades with doweled handles. Makes cutting a pumpkin easy.
And I scrape the face that's going to be carved very thin, less than 1/2" so the tighter bits are easier to cut out.
If you wanted to give it a try go to any department store and look for the Pumpkin Masters stuff. It comes with the tools, and some good patterns.

the wolf is going to a pumpkin contest tomorrow night.
So far I'm two for three at that contest.
and thanks, it's a great way to relax for me. I get a kick out of carving them and then giving them away.

Found a program that can turn any image into a pumpkin carving stencil. Its not free however, so I suppose its moreless for serious pumpkin carvers! :)
Enjoy! :)

Its easy to make an image into a stencil if you have photoshop. Using the Image\Adjustments option, turn the saturation down to -100. Then go to Brightness/Contrast, and turn the contrast to 100, and turn the brightness down until you get an image that you like.
Heres an example with a photo from their site.
