Rookie, Novice? Not sure. I guess it depends on who applies. This is my first NPPL tourney.

im am 99% positive that mardi gras is not an nppl tournament. It is five man only and the five nppl tournaments are: LA, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlantic City, And the World Cup.

no problem, i think that a lot of people assume that its nppl because a lot of pro teams play to warm up for the nppl.

Don't know if you'll want me or not, but I'm down for playing on a team with you guys. I'll need to know ASAP so I can make arrangements. If I'm playing with a team, I'll be down there for the week, if not, only the weekend...

Why would'nt we want you Jonesie? True, we are looking for decent players and would like to be competative; but first and foremost, we're there to have a bit of fun.

Clare-Love to have you if you can swing it. Femmes did'nt make it last year if I remember. When might you find out?

OMG! That would be sooooo cool. We'd have a celebrity playing with us! Oooh, but the added pressure with all of the eyes watching the team that the Femme play on, I don't know if I could handle it! :D

Seriously though, I would be honored to play on your team, Clare. Now I REALLY hope I make the team...

Load - I am a competitive player. Nearly 7 years playing, I received recognition from my CO at this years Wildfire 24 Hour game (not that that means ANYTHING). I love to play, hate to loose, but know how to be a good sport and behave myself. After all, it is just a game. My parents raised me right...

Alright then, sign me up! I can't wait to play with the 'Great Load' and 'Femme Capo"! :D

Capo - Upon reviewing my post concerning you, I'd like to apollogize. Seemed kinda 'creepy'. Wrong arrangement of words, I promise! :D

I'm VERY serious. I've already made hotel reservations, and am planning to drive from Atlanta on Wed Night. I have gotten approval from work, so I'm good to go! I sooooo can't wait.

Now, fielding the teams could prove to be sticky. Right now (counting from the two threads) we have 6 players interested, but aside from myself and hardr0ck68, seriousness is unknown. I'm sure Load and Capo are serious, but I can't vouch for the others.

Current interested roster:
Jonesie (ME!)
hardr0ck
Load
Capo
jeffremiller
dayspring

That's 6 for a 5-man tournament. If we get 4 more, that's two teams (assuming everyone ends up going). Does anyone have any suggestions on forming teams aside from 1st come, 1st serve? I know that I'd like to play on the best team possible.

Let's get some suggestions on forming a 5-man with 6 people... :D

Later ~ Jonesie

Dayspring

A) Recruit 4 more people. Probably the simplest thing to do. There HAVE to be AO members willing to head down there. I mean, you have Rocko and Myself looking to come from Jersey & New York. :)

B) Are they doing 7 man at all?

And I call whatever team Hardr0ck68's on. We play well together. :D I guess I should start looking into this.

Load SM5
10-31-2002, 01:26 PM
I'm extremely serious about going. It's about a 5.5 hour drive for me. We need to see about getting a hotel room or 2 to split. I'm prerfectly happy sleeping on a floor to make that bit cheaper. We just need to make sure any hotels have the free shuttles running to the ferry to cross into New Orleans for the parties that night.

Oh and all this crap....

Name: Jeff
Years playing: 4 or and on, last 2 pretty frequently
Position: Back or mid
tournys: 5-6 local 3 and 5 man. Always on a throw together last minute team
Major tournys: none
Marker: slingshot with SFL e-mag for back-up

Put me on a good team so the others can pull up my slack.;)

Jonesie
10-31-2002, 01:44 PM
My girlfriend is going to tag along (going was HER idea!) and I already have a room with two doubles @ the Best Western listed on the Alario Center website.

Hey Load (Jeff :D) how long does it take to get from B'Ham to Atlanta? If it takes you 5.5 hours to get to NO in a car that leaves B'Ham travelling @ 80 miles an hour, how long would it take me to travel in a car heading west from Atlanta travelling at 80mph? ;)

Let's get this rolling. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to SC on the 9th (STUPID Accounting test!), but I'd be willing to head to Alabama for a day of paintball...?

Later ~ Jonesie

Load SM5
10-31-2002, 01:54 PM
I'm actually about 1.5 hours North of B'ham. It takes me around 3 hours to get to Atlanta mainly becaus there's no direct route. I have to head to B'ham and then hook left, almost running a 90* angle. Yes, I drive waaaaayyy to fast.

I would guess you have a 1.5-2 hour drive to B'ham from Atlanta depending on where you are.

if were feilding 2 teams i would rather be on the one with the hardest bracket were gettin into. i love competition, i dislike losing so i try not to make a habbit outta it :p . dose anyone know what airline would be cheapest? i hate flight shopping but i think driving may be outta my league for this one. as for hotel, i got dibs on the coutch!! if were gonna stay as a team i say go for something semi fancy, if were stayin in groups of one or 2 then what ever is cheap is best...i could care less as long as i get to:

A: play some hardcore ball
B: come home in mega debt and cool new toys
C: hit on booth bunnies
D: wake up in some strange place with a bad headach

A comes above all else, the others can be in whatever order they happen to fall in!!

Well here's a hotel list from last year, I assume the prices still jibe. I'm all for cramming as any warm bodies into the rooms as possible. It's just a place to crash and clean up. I'd rather spend my money on toys at the trade show than have my own room.

Let's see... two double beds, that's 6. The space between the beds, another 2. The space between the bed and the wall, another. The space between the bed and the windows, another 4. Then there's the bathroom, and the space at the foot of the beds. I think at least 20...?

Hello everyone, finally back from being underway. It seems some things changed while I was gone. I am planning on going and I will play or not as ya'll need me, but I am wondering how it will be effected by the PSP/NPPL split.

I am going to go way out on a limb and say that I have some reservations with the PSP and playing in one of their events. I would rather support the NPPL. Despite whatever shortcomings they may have I believe that they are more interested in the advancement of paintball and the PSP is interested in only making money. Not that there is anything wrong with making money but it does not necessarily advance the paintball cause and I would rather see slower growth than some of the behaviour I witnessed at World Cup. But I digress.......

So I will be there, God willing and the crick don't rise, oh yeah and if we go to war with Iraq, well that might throw a wrench in the works too

MGO has not been an NPPL/PSP event in the past. Don't know that it will be this year either...

OK, just ot confirm, I'm going (with or without the little woman) and I'm driving. I have reservations at the Best western near the alario center (listed on the website) for Wed - Sat night, although I'm not leaving until Th night. I do plan to play at whatever level we enter, I really don't care, I'm just looking forward to playing some hard/fun ball! :D

i dont think its going nowhere, i think were headin in the right direction, but it sure isnt fast :D

First we need a captain, right now not so much for the feild stuff but as for the preping to go....who would like this privliage?

What needs to be done
1: a captain, or someone in a leadership role to steer this beast before we end up marrooned in new orleans woundering why were not on the feilds :p

2: a decided, set team for the agreed apon devision (novice i belive)

3: a cheak list of reservations dates and times, we need to get the wole team to the feild on the right days ;)

4: confirmed registration for the AO team (need a name also to register under)

now i am not tryin to take the captain role mostly because i am not intersted in it, i just like to play. if no one else steps up i will ask the known orginizers if they will lend a hand (Riotz, cledford, or someone...) but its better someone on the team steps up and takes it... it dosent matter much to me who. I am also sujesting a new thread for this without the clutter....a link to the new thread, thread opens with the list of who deffinate, whos maybe and a list for a "B team" if the interest is there from other AOers. sound like a good idea?? anyone??

jeffremiller
11-18-2002, 01:20 PM
I had sort of volunteered for the organizer role when I posted this. Not a big deal to me... I'll continue to do it if no one else speaks up.

I've been waiting for registration details... haven't seen any yet. Several of us have reservations and flights booked.

A new thread would be a wonderful Idea. I was sorta waiting to get confirmations from a couple of others before going that next step.

Might want ot see if JeffreMiller wants to play on the novice team. I don't really want to sift through 3 pages of posts, but since he started the thread, he gets 1st pick of team, or so I would think...

I can take the role of captain, although I have little to no tourney experience, I would feel a little green about this, but I'll do it if none of the more "experienced" guys/gals want to...

Let's get some team info together. I'll be happy to take on Captain duties for the team I play on (I really don't want to be in charge of TWO teams  ). If we can get a team together, and list a few alternates incase some have to drop, that would be great.

If you're interested in playing MGO, post here what level you'd be willing to play. We'll arrange teams that way...

jeffermiller you get the headnod from me... before we start a new thread lets get the specifics hammered out

Novice yes or no??

Orginizer/captain (on feild captain/co-captains may be different if the team decides later but just for now to get things movin)
Jeffermiller?? he did start this for us all, and has been keeping the ball rolling so far Jonesie...if you "feel green about it" i would perfer someone most confident...no offense and please dont take that comment as an insult, i just would perfer the most assertive/aggressive orginizer we could have at this point.

i belive we should plan 6 members per team, that way if there is a problem we have an alternate, if there is no problem we can just have the 6th player sub in (so for every 6 games everyone would play 5) i think this would be good for insurance yes or no??

i belive we should plan right now for one team of the most intersted plaers and if interst shows we can hammer out a second team later (but one team is enough of a headach for this moment)

Novice sounds good to me.

I also vote Jeffermiller as El Capitan. This is his brainchild.:D

We need at least 6 guys. I would feel really uncomfortable with less than that.

Do we want to see about investing in some cheap jerseys for this? I think a uniform look is pretty important.

I like this idea fine, but I forsee a problem. Let's say we are playing one of the better teams in a 'must-win' situation. The rotation has come around to include a guy who hasn't performed that well (me?) and exclude the best player. What then? Also, should we make it to the finals :D I'm afraid someone would be upset if they don't get to play.

I'm thinking a set team with an alternate who know he/she won't play if everyone shows...

Personally if I was the weak link on the team and knew we needed the strong guys to win I'd give up my turn to let the strong guys play. It just shows a bit of maturity. I would hate to tell a guy to drive/fly all the way down but don't count 100% on playing.

If we need to bump a guys turn for whatever reason they'll just have to get over it. There'll be enough bad guys for everyone.

In the past, I've never really encountered the problem. Which is rather surprising seeing that this is the way we normally play. It allows us to put our best presence on the field. I'd give up my normal rotational spot if it serves the best interest of the team. I have several times.

Having organized these things before and even tried to get a Skyball team last year I'll tell you it's hard. But the best tool I found for doing this is the "Yahoo Gorups". jeffremiller,

You are now an owner of the group. I take it you have never used the Yahoo groups. If you can not figur something out let me know. A little advice, it's not a bad idea to create a small database with everyone what is interested and their information (sorta like what you have on this page). You can also upload pictures, so you guys know what each other might look like:). I added a few important links to the "Links" page. One of which is to a place that makes custom jersey's and they turn out really nice, just a place you might want to think about. Other than that, have fun and I might chime in here and there if you guys don't mind.

How many interested at this point?

How much particpant fee per player?

I'd like to join if there is a spot. I'm not crazy about the designated "sub" position - would perfer we share the wealth (of playing) if making the trip.

Would also second the jersey idea. It would be a nice touch to have "team colors" and would represent AO well :)

If we do well the advertising will help AGD/AO so maybe there might be some help offsetting the expenses.

Maybe AGD will be teching at the event and we could bunk up with the reps and work the booth when not playing...

Ok I think I've signed up for the Yahoo bit. My new computer is in the shop so I'm on the back-up dinosaur. We should start looking out for cheap deals on jerseys. I also think we should consider team paint. That way the back guys and guys who need to shoot a lot of paint don't take the financial hit for covering the front guys.

Any thoughts?

11-18-2002, 09:23 PM
It the paint BYOP, or do we all chip in on event paint equally and load the back guys up? Either way is fine.

Regarding the jerseys - I think we should stick with AO font/images/colors if possible. As far as customizing the jerseys for each player - how about using your Sig pics...

I'm gonna chime in one more time (and it probably won't be my last). How about you guys pick one common "AO" logo to put on the front, and then if you want to customize something, make the right shoulder a spot where you can put your custom/personalized image. This would be kinda like what they do with All-Star games. They all wear the same uniform, but have the team they represent someplace on the it. This way while on the field you will look professional and organized, but also be able to express your originality.

It's not BYOP. You have you chioce of 2 brands of Diablo. The Hellfire is going for $90/case. And Jonesie, if AGD is there and you let the guys know your an AO'er, you'll be working the booth. I did last year for most of the the time and had a lot of fun.

Keep and eye out for good jersey deals. Anything but 32 degrees.

Good suggestion. I like my idea of putting the personal logo on the back (see my yahoo post) where number would normally be put - but that was to be different. I'm not even sure if it would be "legal." It would be easier to see the logos - which a a big part of AO (never seen them anywhere else, and hey I need one!), but not that big a deal. The arm is a good idea too, I like professional and organized :)

Hellfire would be a good showcase for level-10 - "We came, we rocked, and we shot hellfire with no breaks"

$90 is steep, but I don't get it much cheaper here in northern VA - it goes for $85. Usually I shoot inferno, it works fine for me. Hellfire is OK too.

I'm gonna send Ivan the images from the thread and see if he can do them just as designed for us. I don't mind paying full price for a one off purple AO Jersey. Can we go with individual colors or do you want to standardize?

How many do we need? Can everyone officially on the team or even those considering it quietly, post if they want one. I suggest we do the 50% up front via paypal to me and I will do the order. even 5-7 people paying separately might get confusing.

ehh to me this whole jearsie deal is such a little matter, so whatever the team decides on im all for...if we buy a name brand jersie your gonna see mine up for grabs in the classified section 2 days ofter the open, i have never liked the idea of payin to be a walking logo...if we go custom then all i want is a place to put a custom graphic, dosent hafta be big, but i havent played a tourny without my skull chrest in 3 years...i would just feel off without it there, its not some silly goth thing so yeah. but whatever, just try to keep it under $70 because A: i hate over payin for anything B: jersies dont improve on feild performance so i cant justify much on one that im just gonna dump after using it once.

I guess it takes three votes to win. Nexed has mine and I would assume yours as well. One more and that is decided. Next is color. You really want red? I don't care so I give you my vote for your suggestion. One more and we got it decided.

I still won't know right away so don't count me in. If I find out at the last minute that I will be attending but not playing then maybe I can be the alternate. :)

Any idea if Havok is interested? Even if you play with the Femmes surely he'd be coming with you to support his wittle shnoogums;)

Red it is.... Red nexed jerseys.

How do you want to order them... together or separate. Seeing as how we are spread out over the country, separate would be easiest but we wouldn't get a discount.

They are already pretty cheap though.

Everyone can send their cash to one person with their jersey size. That one person orders all the jerseys. I'll do it if no one else wants to.

I'll gladly accept your offer to coordinate. I figure I will be handling the registration. Do we all have paypal... that would expedite the matter.

ACTUALLY, it all depends on whether AGD will be there or not since he will be helping out at the booth (as always). :p

Where'd ya'll find the jerseys and how much are they? I can go with red, and I do have paypal...

Lemme know ~ Jonesie

EDIT: Actually, after checking out the Nexed website, I found this info. I had a thought, since we're going to be an AO Team, and Red isn't represented much here on AO, should we go with a black or a yellow? Not trying to screw things up, but I think they might look better, and represent AO a little better of they were to "match" the colors of the site. Just a thought, I'm not trying to impose ANYTHING here. ~ Jonesie

How good is Nexed at customizing the Jerseys? I thought the vender Jason listed looked very flexible.

I think Load said no 32 degrees and I support him on that point.

If we are going the route of getting team jerseys I say we go custom all of the way and use the people listed at the yahoo website. Nexed looks OK, but I'd rather use the space on the jerseys advertising AO and the fact that we are associated with Airgun Designs then advertising for dye, nexed, 32 degrees or who-ever. If we go the "true-custom" route then we can have something truly distinct. Otherwise we'll end op with the same jerseys everyone else has with different names and numbers ironed on.

That does'nt matter to me. If the team wants to go for an AO color that's fine. Out of the two, I'd prefer black.

If we get a 5 man team with 2 alterantes that's %15 off the $35 for the jerseys when we mass order. Do we want to see about getting them lettered?

I think so many people wanted to get cheaper jersys since they may decide to sell them as soon as Mardi Gras is over. They did'nt want spend $65 for a truly custom jersey.

Custom was my original thought as well but honestly.... it doesn't matter. Now if we had some sponsorship of some sort, we'd have a reason to advertise...

Doesn't matter to me... I see both sides. I just want to end the discussion and decide by the end of the month.

I'm not trying to highjack anything - but thought I ought to at least state my feelings since we are all weighing in here.

First, we should probably move this discussion to the website the muzikman set up for us. Since that site requires registration it is easier to keep track of who is a maybe or a yes. I'm thinking that the yeses should have a bit more say since we're verbally committing to fund this. I'm not trying to cut anyone out of the decision process - but do feel that those who are committing up front have earmarked funds to support the entire endeavor and therefore have "bought" into the event. I'm not trying to sound like a stuck up d!ck, but also would be a little irritated if a bunch of people who ended up not going swung a decision a direction that those who did might not have been totally happy with.

Another good reason is that I'm having trouble tracking both threads and missed the part about the cheaper jerseys, so it might be helpful to consolidate in one area for that reason as well.

Onto the jerseys, I will go with he team on this and any other decision, but my personal preference is to go fully custom on the the matter. When the Team AO concept came up I decided I'd like to do it and asked you guys to participate. I did once I sat down and figured out finances to be sure it was doable. I want this to be a memorable event and don't understand the idea of selling the jerseys afterwards (unless to a different AO team going to a different event - to keep the jerseys uniform) and would rather have something unique to remember the time by. I also despise the vendor jerseys that say dye, JT or what ever. I of course already own 2 (isn't paintball great) and don't care for another if it is avoidable.

These are just my feelings and I by no means am arguing with anyone - I just wanted to get them out there in case anyone was feeling the same way.

I agree about moving the discussion. Only problem is the added delay... those groups are slow.

But let's give it a shot.

I sent a discussion starter to the list. Everyone chime in.

I'm for the custom jersey's or the Nexed ones. Either way is fine by me. An extra $30 is'nt going to break me. I just wanted to get something nailed down. Our captain should feel free to squash the discussion at any point and make a command decision.

Personallt I'll be hanging onto my jersey.

As far as the Yahoo bit goes I've tried to join up but so far I have'nt been invited to log in.

There's still time for debate.... No big rush just yet.

Debate away...

Due to speed concerns I setup another list with everyone from the Yahoo Group on it. I'll add Load to the Yahoo group and the other list as soon as he reads his PM.

The Yahoo group is slow? Not that I have any connection to Yahoo, but I never found it slow. I have found the email on yahoo slow, but thats why I have it set as a daily email and I just check the messages throughout the day as I do here.

If you guys want, I do have access to a forum that could be setup just for this and put it up on teamao.org. It will take me a few days to get it up and running.

BTW, since I am not playing I don't count, but if you guys go the customized jersey, I want one:)
