Does anyone know if a second inline regulator helps out with making velocity more consistent on a Minimag?

Thoughts???
Issues???
Has anyone tried it???

Alot depends on what kind of air system you are using.

CO2- Yes, it would make things more consistent, as well as blocking liquid from hitting the gun. Since the Mag already has a regulator on it, this will help things out. A Palmer's Stabilizer would be a good choice for CO2.

HPA- Don't use it. The tank already has a regulator, and so does the gun. Double regulation is the way to go. Adding a third one in there can starve the gun and will cause problems.

No. It dosent.

yes, several people have tried it.

By adding another inline reg, you are actually TRIPLE regulating your system. This is generally considered a bad thing. (1st one is the tank reg. 2nd is your new inline reg. 3rd is the reg built into the gun.)

Other guns befefit from an inline reg because they dont' have one already built into the gun. (i.e. autococker, spyder, ect.)

However, all that being said, some people have removed the functional parts from the reg in the gun, thereby rendering it non-existant. Next, they have experimented with various inline regulators, which act in place of the reg. in the gun. Some have had fairly decent results. The flip side of that one is that your mag can do +/- 2 on a chrono if its maintained properly, and using high quality, consistent paint w/ a properly matching barrel.

Regardless of what reg you use in its place, your still going to have to have those above conditions met to have more consistent velocity.

Overall, im of the opinion that its just a neat side experiment, that adds more weight to the gun, and really dosent improve over a standard setup that is working properly.

hope this helps,

Carl

(edit) this is all in regards to HPA. Dayspring is right about the C02 setup.
