View Full Version : How does everyone pay for their stuff?

I'm a poor college student, and I had to sell my setup earlier this year to pay for smartness. I'm gonna go crazy if I can't get back into the sport, but I have no idea how I'll ever come up with $1000 for another setup, let alone the money to actually use it. I know credit cards are an option, but I hate the idea of spending money that isn't mine. So, how does everyone fuel their addiction in the midst of paying for life at the same time? I don't want to hear "mummy and daddy," this is a poll for people out on their own, or close to it.

Except for my Angel (Which I had to save for), it's usually been a bit here and a bit there. Of course, your definition of bit may vary, as I can blow up to $1000CDN a month on a hobby (Single & Employed), it's a matter of which hobby to blow it on.

This is of course coming from the guy who bought 10 dark angels off of a webpage error and then plans to sell them for a profit :) :)

:D

I have a job. I'm kinda like Hoppy. Save up money in the account until I can buy what I want, then make up the difference.

I just use whatever scraps I can find resulting from my last job...I sell whatever I don't need, and wait for good deals. Oh and don't worry about holding onto something you don't need for a long time...eventually, someone will need what you're trying to sell, and you can shoot up the price.

I see, thanks for the posts, guys. I figured credit wasn't a good idea, I'm debt free at this point and would like to remain that way. I'd love to be sponsored, I was a while ago, but all I basically got was free paint. I'm a full time engineering student though, and I don't have the time to be dragging myself all over the west to compete. I usually recycle old stuff into money, the only problem is that I want to keep all my stuff right now!

Tell ya what, guys, if half the people on AO donated one dollar, it would put me in the setup pf my dreams! C'mon, people, just one dollar via paypal!

I bought my minimag from the first check, a 68/45kpsi bulldog tank from the next paycheck, then i dropped part of the next check for an Iframe, a Dropzone and hoses, then the out of the next check, I got a revvy and Omega Body rail (which are currently backordered at paintball gear.), and I'm waiting for a smartparts gas thru grip as the last necessary part (They gave me the wrong style grip so I had to send it back). All in all, I started purchasing this setup back in early November, and it looks like the first time I'll get to play with it is Jan 11! that's like, forever...:( ( i havent even gassed it up, yet)

We should have an AO drawing like this. Anyone who wants to donate 1dollar via paypal can enter, then 1 person every month is drawn.

get a job that pays hourly and gives good tips :)

I Valet. So whatever I make hourly goes into the bank and pays for my car payments and what not. All the tips I get goes into whatever I want. With the money I've made lately from working a ton of christmas parties I could have an E-mag, but I'm just not that serious into the sport right now. maybe down the road :)

I dont know where my money comes from.
My parents rarely buy stuff for me..
I guess somehow I get money from working from my dad occasionally and im now selling all my crap and hopefully I'll get the remaining $300 I need to get my e-mag soon..

SAVE...SAVE...SAVE!!!

You will pay twice as much if you put it on credit

Credit=EVIL

If you can't pay it off within 30 days or if it isn't an emergency then don't use credit.

If you can live with something better coming out while you slowly build up your equipment then buy one piece at a time. If you have to have the best on the market at the time then save for it all at once.

Maybe we can organize a March Madness pool, $5 or $10 via Paypal for entry. I doubt the mods would let it happen though.. lol

I personally think this drawing is a very good idea... Think about it, how many members do we have? On the forum main page, it says we have 9,216. Granted, they all aren't active (we won't get exactly $9,216) but even if only Half of these people threw a dollar in the pot....(or $5!!!!)

I don't know about ya'll but I finance mine with crime. Every weekend I'm out snappin' photos for blackmail, breaking and entering, and carjackin' fools. :D

Ok, not really. Actually, I have no idea how I manage to come up with money for paintball. Me being an artist I have even less spare cash than your average person. I know one thing though...if I had a better paying "day" job I'd definitely have more cash around. I gotta work on that one.

I do work my little buns off, I have a job at school and I have worked nearly every day of my christmas break. I think my problem is that I like doing too many expensive things, I snowboard in the winter, so that is where alot of my money goes. I'm glad you guys like the idea of a charity being set up, but you're missing the point, the money needs to go to me! To meeeee!!!!!!:p

Covad - I already do that, I live right next to an all girls dorm!

Einhander,
Easiest money I ever made was being a bouncer in a bar. I used to get tipped by the waitresses and bartenders to keep the drunks from doing stupid things then get paid another fifty bucks at the end of the night for checking ID's while keepin' the peace.

Also, chicks like bouncers...a lot.

10 yr's ago I sold my soul to a paintball field owner.
No joke, but at least I don't pay field fee's or air
fee's and I get my paint at a veeerrryy good price.
I also know a local gear supplier who has alway's
treated me very well. BTW having played for 3 AGD
sponsored Team's has'nt hurt either.
My advice is get as involved with the industry as
much as you can, and make friend's in high places.

Well, considering that I am in high school and can't quite get a job yet (that day will come some time though) I have a whole black market industry going at school. Anything I see laying on the ground is fair game for me to pick up and sell. I also have a candy business at school which is VERY profitable. I can bring home $60 a week selling airheads and hershey bars at school. It's better than learning all day. Half of my teachers don't care that i do it and the other half let me sell in their classes as long as i give them chocolate.

Life is good. Buy dirt cheap candy at Sam's club, and sell it for enormous profits. I love America.

That's the only source of income i have, but it financed my E-mag.

You bastard! Im not giving you any money! You are in college learning how to be an engineer!? Some people don't even get that far!!!IF I DONTATE ANY MONEY IT WILL BE TO A STARVING BOY IN ETHIOPIA!!!

Hehe just kidding man. Well, in paintball, i make an initial investement, and keep on trading to get more money to use for paintball. I usually only stick to the money i generate from trades, which is quite a bit. I made 175$ profit off of a cocker i just sold, and i could probably make 100 bucks off of the teflon bodied rt with boomstick that i just bought for 200 bucks.

PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST!

Strongboy, it sounds like you go to a pretty tight high school. I'm too busy taking notes to hustle hersheys in class, though!;) I did, however, make $20 off a half bottle of jaeger one night though! Being a bouncer would be awesome, but I'm only 5'8" and not very buff at the moment. I'm really interested in tending bar as soon as I'm old enough, though. Does anybody here tend bar or have they in the past?

I think I'll stay out of the armed forces, I got mad respect and all, but I prefer being a mercenary!

I save up and buy a thing at a time when I got the extra money after paying bills. Never doubt the income that a Pizza delivery guy can bring in :D
